"Meh"

Why have people started using this word all over the Internet?   It makes me think of some small animal making a squidgy, high-pitched noise when you yank its tail.   It's irritating.  We should campaign against its use.

lronitulstahp -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 3:11:19 AM)

meh....i don't mind it[;)]

Meh. . . I noticed it about 5 years ago.  Maybe a bit more.

KatyLied -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 7:05:11 AM)

::shrug::

GreedyTop -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 7:16:43 AM)

I like it.

LaTigresse -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 7:30:50 AM)

I don't mind it. I've heard, and read, it for years. Several friends from Vancover Island BC use it as it is part of their slang in that regioun.

No different than slang words from any other place. Hell, to me, the word aint isn't really a word and drives me batshit crazy, either spoken or typed. Yet, I have been know to use it for effect. Annoying even myself.

jazana -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 7:42:25 AM)

Meh is the best word in the world and I don't care what other people say.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 7:48:22 AM)

...wonders why Peon hasn't picked on her personally for this one...

Because I say it ALLLL THE TIME!!!

Welcome to the good part of the boards, anyway!  [:D]

subtlebutterfly -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 1:24:37 PM)

My friend uses it ALL the time and he has been able to contaminate me too, however I usually only use it in written language. However I hate that word lol and thankfully I rarely use it but unfortunately my use of it seems to be increasing[&:]

sunshinemiss -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 1:29:16 PM)

I have an uncle who actually says it.  I can't help but think of him each time I see it.

It says a lot in a little bit of sound.

subtlebutterfly -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 1:32:20 PM)

yeah..my friend says it out loud too..but heck..it always reminds me of the roadrunner for some reason! meeeeeeeepmeeeeeeep

but true..it says so much! usually everything that's needed to be said at the time =)
however..I can't help finding it kinda irritating[X(]

PeonForHer -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 1:33:46 PM)

Fast reply:

Excellent words that should be encouraged:

Pshaw, gammon, Pah, bah, poppycock, codswallop, piffle, twaddle, jiggery-pokery, flummery, schlemiel, schlong, schlepp (I do like most of those Yiddish ones), ragamuffin, guttersnipe . . . .

- and - of course - Hompfyflompf.  (Lady Hib will remember [;)])  I still haven't worked out a meaning for that one, though.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 1:44:17 PM)

It's the phonetic spelling for the sound a person makes when s/he expresses apathy about or disinterest in a topic.

Example: This thread is...meh.

PeonForHer -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 1:45:31 PM)

Actually, I've got a little experiment going on.  I want to see if I can "invent" a word that'll pass into wider usage.  Well, someone must do this, mustn't they?

In the UK, there's TV celebrity called Jeremy Clarkson.  He's widely known for being a "jack-the-lad" - anti-green, anti-feminist - pretty much anti-everything.  Anti "political correctness" - with a very, very wide definition of that term.  Big hit with with readers of lads' magazines.  He hosts a car review programme.

Anyway, I've invented the word "Clarkson" to mean "wank" (noun), in recognition of the fact that Jeremy Clarkson is the UK's greatest living wanker.  Could everyone help me spread this please - help "seed" the word?   You just need to say, for instance, " . . . and I caught him giving himself a Clarkson" every now and then.

One day, I want someone I've never met to mention having "had a Clarkson".  Woah - even to see it in a slang dictionary - my crowning glory!

FullCircle -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 2:03:46 PM)

Good plan apart from the fact Clarkson means Drill.

'Scrob' should be a word it just needs the correct meaning.

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: Meh (2/18/2009 3:09:16 PM)

"Meh" reminds me of Cartman from South Park.  Every time I see it, I think of him.. Then I think about the eppisode that his mom got the dog whisperer to come train him... From that, I go to the fact that the little pinchy "Sh!" thing that he does to Cartman is the same thing that Sweets now does to me when I am arguing with Him and I'm around Him... Just because I do the same little hand waving thing that Cartman does!  Grr....  Anyways... What was I saying?
