DisenchantedLife -> Good place for books? (2/17/2009 11:56:10 AM)

Where's a really good place to get a good deal on paperbacks?  I looked at amazon, of course and they arent bad prices, but they wont let me go through paypal!!  Which i want!  LOL  Ebay doesnt offer all of the books I want and to pay for shipping for each book, makes the grand total go up and up.  Half.com the books are actually more expensive than Amazon.  Borders doesnt have all the books either.

I know there has got to be a good place to buy paperbacks.  I do usually just go to the store..... but lord.....i am only going to read them once!

thanks for any help.

Ummmm...a library?

DisenchantedLife -> RE: Good place for books? (2/17/2009 12:13:58 PM)

bah but i want to own them TOO.  I love my own library.  I just dont have the luxory to stock it as much as i wish.  Trust me, if I could I'd spend hundreds of dollars at the book store each week.

Plus, they usually dont have the titles I'm looking for

try thrift shops or out of the way book stores or even google locations in ur area

DisenchantedLife -> RE: Good place for books? (2/17/2009 12:37:02 PM)

they dont usually have what i'm looking for.  Usually you have to pre order them.  Most book stores dont carry them.

masternoname -> RE: Good place for books? (2/17/2009 12:40:15 PM)

Our library has a small used book store. Hard cover books are a dollar and paperbacks are 50 cents. I love that store. Every couple months they have a massive book sale in the lobby that is really good too.

Edited to add: you can also try used book stores. A lot of them let you bring in old books for credit towards new ones. (new ones to you, not new books)

Lockit -> RE: Good place for books? (2/17/2009 12:49:15 PM)

If you have to pre-order them, I would be very curious as to what they were! lol

Try getting a book buddy.  Find someone who likes to read the same type of material and split the expenses and divy up the books.

Amazon. Did you ever think of using a pre-paid credit card?

littlewonder -> RE: Good place for books? (2/17/2009 2:28:35 PM)

library, thrift stores, used bookstores, yardsales

The local libraries here have huge booksales every couple months. I can buy boxes of books for only a couple bucks.

I can't remember the last time I actually bought a brand new book from a regular bookstore.

Oh and type "book swap" into your browser and you'll find all kinds of sites where you can exchange books with others.

One of my faves is bookcrossing.com

All the places already suggested plus

www.abebooks.com/

www.alibris.com/

www.bookfinder.com/

www.biblio.com/

These are collections of independant book stores.

They were all on the first page of google after I typed "used books"

I have used the first two. I was happy with my purchases.

Happy hunting,
Outlier

Also try Craig's List.org and freecycle.org for free books.

came4U -> RE: Good place for books? (2/17/2009 3:53:11 PM)

Kijiji.com

Another good resource is end of the quarter/semester at local colleges and universities when students are looking to get at least some of their money back on required text books, which often include novels and anthologies for the literature courses.

yeah but i'm looking for bdsm books.  Most libraries, thrift stores, and most of the other places you mentioned - dont carry them.  Nor do regular book stores.  In the past, I have looked.  Yep, thats why i'm on a bdsm forum asking about where to locate books.  LOL

I have the credit card thingymabob - but i wanted to go through PayPal and amazon wont let me.  Hence looking else where - )

Thanks for the help.  I'll check out the links

i was going to suggest the same thing too but here in Chicago, some libraries have 10cent book sales certain times of the year. some of the books are popular and best sellers too.

however since you're looking for BDSM book, there's a store here in town that sells BDSM-related paperbooks, comics, novellas. try www.quimbys.com - it's located in Chicago though

KatyLied -> RE: Good place for books? (2/18/2009 8:40:38 AM)

alibris carries kink books

Vendaval -> RE: Good place for books? (2/18/2009 9:06:51 PM)

Try greenerypress.com for Kink books.

TNstepsout -> RE: Good place for books? (2/19/2009 5:53:36 AM)

For great deals on hard to find books, Amazon just can't be beat. You might just have to suck it up and use a debit card instead of PayPal.
