Thank you for posting that article LaTigresse. It made me log onto the FB site and read their policies. Having done that I've deactivated my FB account as I cannot agree to their policies.

Interesting... one can only deactivate their account (and reactivate it at any time by simply logging back in with their "old" user ID and password) and not delete it.

It is rare if i use Facebook to contact Mistress.I have enough outlets available to me to contact her so i also separate the two.I have had a couple of old friends contact me on Facebook so another reason to separate.

LaTigresse: You can get a private show

sappatoti=You can delete it, however you will still be in their records, and I don't think the stuff gets deleted (the stuff meaning e.g. written on peoples walls etc. etc. or done through applications)

When I went into my account settings, the only option I was offered was "deactivate." Is there someplace else where I can choose deletion?

sappatoti i believe they can still use your information even though it is unactivated.

Facebook isn't meant really for kink though if you really want you can put it up there.  My whole family is on there and though i have added a few people from here that i have enjoyed conversations with i keep BDSM out of it.  My grandpa (yes he has one) does not need to know what i do on my own free time.

And to the OP specifically i dont know about your friends but none of mine add people they don't know unless they just really need the attention.

And you can't use a fake name you have to use your real one.

I'm not too worried about FB using whatever content I may have put up (which was nothing anyway). Even the profile pic is a vanilla image I've used on a few other sites so that's not a problem either.

I did go through and clamped down on all privacy options and deleted profile info, such as schools, jobs, etc. before I deactivated the account. At the very least, my account will show up as simply deactivated to anyone else if it doesn't appear to have disappeared from their views.

here it is (yes it's safe to click the link as long as you're going to delete the account): http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account  (it's through the help link on facebook, it's stupid but this's the only place I've seen it at)

but like I say, you will still exist in their system even though your profile is gone

Thanks subtlebutterfly.

As long as the ghost of me remains in their system(s), I hope it does a fairly good job of haunting them. >:-)

Hi Prin, I'm not able to mix the two even though I am 'out there', I have to respect the fact that some of my family and friends aren't. CM, IC and Fet Life are solely for Reality and myself. Face Book is for my family and friends and while they know I'm a little weird, I want it kept that way, I don't want them knowing just how bloody weird I am. I'd also provide my ex mother-in-law with a valid excuse as to why she didn't like me other than the fact I divorced her son despite it being amicable and a joint decision

Hi Miss M
long time no see.
I'll need about 4 facebooks then!

Hiya Gorgeous, you get four face books, I'll get four face lifts (twas only three until Valentine's and a mountain of chocolate gave me another chin!). Wouldn't you get confused with all that to-ing and fro-ing, Prin? I'd wind up with MPD!

Fox runs a BDSM group on Facebook, and it has a huge membership. We belong to it, but we do not keep our group memberships in the public views of our profiles. I have everyone on mind from my future sister in law to my 5th grade teacher to friends who I am out to. I do not publically talk about the BDSM on there. I should not have to have 2 profiles, I just expect friends of mine to be respectful enough to keep BDSM related stuff off my wall. Easy enough and I do have the ability to delete wall posts if need be. The way I see it, if these are people I would be willing to invite to my wedding and have in real life around my family, I should ot have to worry about adding them to my group of online friends.

DV, I see your point, but it's a network and while we make a choice of who we invite into our lives and part of the process of formulating friendships is extending trust, of that I have no issue with regarding mine - I cannot say I extend the same for my friends' friends and acquaintances b/c I simply do not know them and that is the issue.

I agree with you thishereboi. I actually had two FB accounts... one using my real name for family and 'nilla friends and the other using my online only shadow name. All that's required for a FB account is a valid email address.

I don't care to do facebook. But I did find this interesting blip which might make some people think twice about it.

http://mashable.com/2009/02/16/facebook-tos-privacy/

Which means, if you have great photos, they can sell them or use them however they see fit.

I guess you didn't read TOS on this site?  It has a similar paragraph!

I don't do the Facebook either.  My main reasons are that it's too open to far too many people (I know for that fact that the president at my company DOES read everyone's page), and I've heard too many stories of random people from the past finding people who would rather not ever have heard from them again.  Oh, and then there's another site---I don't have the name at hand right now---that compiles everything it can find on you in one location (photos, credit score, etc., etc.), and apparently your Facebook profile is one of the major sources.
