ok i'm not very computer savy so here is my question,is it possible to get information out my computer if your on my yahoo messenger as a friend. may sound dumb but id rather be safe than sorry

It is very possible to have someone hack into your yahoo account. Your computer, possible, but not probable.

............and don't believe the bullshit about people being able to track your name and address by finding your IP you'd need a warrant and access to the ISP files for that and a stable IP.... and they can't access your pc by knowing your IP address either etc.etc.etc.etc.etc. ...in regards to password on your computer if you get a trojan the person behind it can collect the passwords within 5 seconds really... that is those saved by mozilla/firefox/chrome/opera/safari/yahoo/msn/etc.etc.etc.

Ya, I had my yahoo account hacked and lost the entire account. They changed everything, including the Q&A to retrieve the account. I lost everything! Pics I can't get back and documents etc. I even called yahoo, and was told there was nothing they can do. As for how it happened...not sure but I can guarantee it was from someone who knows me.It is possible to get it via info on your computer,however very unlikely! Someone obviously knows you well enough to have figured it out. Also remember not to save your passwords on your computer, even if others don't use your computer...it only takes one jerk one time to get on it, and they can get in and change everything!

Microsoft has documents on messenger vulnerablity. They may have corrected things, but there were vulnerablities and those in the know were hacking in. How it is all done, I do not know... but there are reasons that we have the word 'hacker'. If no one could do it... we wouldn't know about it and there wouldn't be sites created to teach people to do it. Someone who knows what they are doing can do a lot.

There was a conference here for hackers. It was on the news. They were learning the newest techniques from other hackers! Scary huh?

Yeah, before my last computer died from a hacker... I had a link for a site where they exchanged hacking info that someone sent me so that I could learn to protect myself. It was very interesting. lol No one I talked to could understand how my hacker did things... not a number of techs from virus protection or any tech I could find and some of these guys pulled in their boss's. But then, my hacker had hundreds of computers to hide behind and built large computer systems. I did learn a lot though! Hiding behind another computer or IP... if on cable internet.. resetting your IP often, looking for hidden files... using a router to hide... what to use and what to do... What a maze! I lost total control and wasn't even allowed to set my own settings and such... was blocked out as someone else had control.

That's one of the "wonderful" things about Yahoo. If you're not a customer with them, which, when you don't have an account you aren't a customer any longer, they refuse to help you, on the grounds that their customer service should be focused on their customers. Press the issue then they say that they're more inclined to believe their customers. [8\|] I know someone whose identity was 'stolen' (in that someone created a Yahoo account and was using it to take other peoples' information and such under his name), and Yahoo refused to help him stop this person. They also refused to help those whose identities were stolen as a result of the personal information the scammer got. It's part of the reason I refuse to use Yahoo services almost universally.

No. and the only way someone can get your password is if you log into a spoofer site and fill in user name and password. IP can be found by / in midst of a file transfer though with netstat..easy. What to do with that IP? any of numerous things, name etc no, pinging or possibly logging you out, yes. Opening ports, possibe. Finding out someone you are chatting to is lying about what city/state/country they are in...priceless. [:D] If you send pics on yahell messenger, do so using photo share option only. Anti-Virus proggies still let em in to read you info because obviously you set preferences to allow yahoo traffic. grr second editing: general note: if you are suspicious or untrustworthy of anyone in any instant messaging service, try to your internet cable (if you have it) provider's list of phone access numbers to log on instead of direct cable ISP. These usually come free with your service for when you travel (can use them country-wide). Go to your server homepage to get list of numbers. This means of ISP server does not allow any (info) traffic beyond what is necessary.
