Kaledorus -> OBAMA USURPS THE CONSTITUTION, GRABS CENSUS JURISDICTION (2/12/2009 12:52:40 PM)

What ethics.

The power grab continues. My bet is that Old Media will also maintain its studied ignorance of this development, despite years of whining about alleged Executive Branch excesses during the Bush administration. Now it looks like Barack Obama’s inner circle is going to teach the Census Bureau how to count in 2010. CQpolitics.com this morning reported that the White House is taking the next decennial census away from the Commerce Department, and keeping it for itself. The reason given why Commerce is supposedly not up to the job is that nominee Judd Gregg of New Hampshire fought Bill Clinton in the mid-1990s over “emergency funding” for the 2000 census that was really an attempt by the Clinton administration to cook the books.
CQpolitics.com reported:
The director of the Census Bureau will report directly to the White House and not the secretary of Commerce, according to a senior White House official. The decision came after black and Hispanic leaders raised questions about Commerce Secretary nominee Judd Gregg ’s commitment to funding the census.

"alleged" ?? Executive Branch excesses? What rock have you been living under?

Have you ever taken the census?  It's torture!  [;)]

snappykappy -> RE: OBAMA USURPS THE CONSTITUTION, GRABS CENSUS JURISDICTION (2/12/2009 1:43:40 PM)

i collected data door to door for the last census
that was an easy job and all i had to average was 3 houses per hour to get info

ladynlord -> RE: OBAMA USURPS THE CONSTITUTION, GRABS CENSUS JURISDICTION (2/12/2009 1:48:35 PM)

Most don't realize the power that comes from controlling that information. There is so much that automatically takes effect based on the numbers that comes from the reporting.

E2Sweet -> RE: OBAMA USURPS THE CONSTITUTION, GRABS CENSUS JURISDICTION (2/12/2009 1:49:22 PM)

The Census Bureau hounded me for WEEKS trying to get me to fill out that ridiculous 20+ page ACS survey they conduct to random households... After all the harassing phone calls, and the rep knocking on my door every other night, leaving me warnings to call him or I may be fined for non-compliance, I wouldn't care all that much if the President dissolved the Bureau entirely.

thornhappy -> RE: OBAMA USURPS THE CONSTITUTION, GRABS CENSUS JURISDICTION (2/12/2009 2:10:41 PM)

fast reply

Don't forget the Bush administration's and Gregg's record on the census...although it's from "old media"..."
The Census Bureau is a major agency within the Commerce Department, and the decennial census — the next one is in 2010 — is a mammoth undertaking. After years of mismanagement and underfinancing by the Bush administration, the bureau is so ill prepared to conduct next year’s count that Congressional investigators have warned that it is at high risk of failure unless corrective action is taken immediately.

Mr. Gregg was never a friend of the census. As chairman of the Senate committee that oversees the Commerce Department’s budget, he frequently tried to cut the bureau’s financing. In 1999, he opposed emergency funds for the 2000 census requested by President Bill Clinton and the Republican-controlled House.

The census is used to allocate federal aid to states and draw electoral districts. Given all that, one would think that the White House would be paying more attention. It isn’t. A director of the census, who must be confirmed by the Senate, has yet to be named."

Well, he's only been in office three whole weeks, and he's got a lot on his plate. Maybe more than any other Prez ever. How long was Shrub given to settle in?

MarsBonfire -> RE: OBAMA USURPS THE CONSTITUTION, GRABS CENSUS JURISDICTION (2/12/2009 6:54:58 PM)

I think Bush had a nine month long "Honeymoon"... Well, lets see... Jan 20, 2001 to Sept 11, 2001... just taking enough time to practice his golf swing, and ignore a few daily intel reports...

Luckily, he was still able, after all this terrorisim "hulabaloo" to take almost a full third of his time in office off ...on vacation.

Democrats know politics is not principled. Its organized crime.

Wow....Obama may be transferring power over the census from Commerce to the White House....Boy...it really makes you long for the days of George Bush...All he did was to evicerate the constitution in every human rights area possible (remember when the United States wasn't a nation that just "disappeared" people?), lied to the congress, the American people and the world to start a war that has cost us half a trillion dollars, and oversaw policies that caused the biggest meltdown of the economy in decades.

Ya know....if we find out that Obama has any unpaid parking tickets to go along with all the "power grabbing" we have, we should really impeach him and bring back Bush for a third term.

I think we need a dept. to keep count of the frivolous Obama threads started on a daily basis here.
The numbers must be staggering.

I don't know, but I've been told, by many of the same people complaining of Obama's performance so far, that Bush was in office "only" eight months and that justifies his ignorance of the terrorist threat and his failure to take any action to prevent 9/11.

Silly Rule, all those failures are properly laid at the feet of the preceding President(a democrat, wouldn't you know)Bush didn't have enough time(8 months) to redress all of Clintons mistakes, position Haliburton for unprecedented growth....and stop the plot hatching under his watch.

MasterShake69 -> RE: OBAMA USURPS THE CONSTITUTION, GRABS CENSUS JURISDICTION (2/13/2009 7:13:48 PM)

really?

and the democrats weren’t screaming bush stole the election?
That he was selected, not elected ;)

remember there is always payback.
just like what the democrats will face when they lose the congress.
