RealityLicks -> Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 2:14:28 AM)

Over the weekend you all probably heard the audio of Christian Bale losing it with the DP of Terminator Salvation.  As if that wasn't funny enough, some bright spark has set it to music. It's fucking hilarious, do you fucking understand?  I want a fucking answer!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTihsJQHt48

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 3:14:47 AM)

He's a good actor, and I understand that he's a method actor.  But damn......what a little, diva bitch he is.  I've haven't heard sailors use the word 'fuck' that many times in a conversation.

Lucylastic -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 4:53:19 AM)

He sounds like hes been taking lessons from Gordon Ramsey
potty mouth, but then thats what soap or gags are made for:)

Lucy
now daydreaming about a lovely scene with ramsey and bale nekid tied together, wearing a dog bone gag, one end in each  mouth.

No kidding.  I have always really liked Bale but this is embarrassing.  It got uncomfortable for me to listen to after a couple of minutes.  Where were the other people on set and why was no one separating these two and telling Bale to (to use his favorite word) shut the FUCK up.  We get it.  You're upset.  Now shut it and act like an adult for FUCK'S sake.  No movie is worth all that let alone another one in the seemingly endless line of "Terminator" stinkers[8|]...............luci

LookieNoNookie -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 5:34:36 AM)

Something tells me his career has just been terminated.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 5:35:54 AM)

I saw that last evening and listened to it. The behaviour he exhibited towards that guy was disgusting, but what was even more disgraceful is the way no one else put him in his place. If someone spoke to me like that the very least they'd get is to be put on their arse. It's cowardly to use one's privileged position, but even more so to stand by idle and enable such behaviour by reaffirming that it's okay to be a prize c...cu... idiot through inaction. Sickening.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 5:37:47 AM)

I very much doubt it, I'm sure crews are used to jumped up twats like that posturing/mouthing off on the sets. It's a great shame such displays are acceptable.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   It's true that his behaviour was appalling but it's not all that unheard of on feature film sets.  People spend inordinately long hours together for weeks on end.  It's a rare film where tantrums do not occur, although it's also true that it's more likely to be the director or star "doing their pieces" than say, the lowly clapper loader.  Which might indicate why no-one stepped in to prevent it.                                                                                                                                                                                  In Bale's defence, it's said that this particular DP has form for upsetting people in this way and that the actor did warn him about it several times prior to his outburst.  FWIW, I still rate him as a decent actor and wouldn't consider seeing this film unless he was in it.                                                                                                                                                        I was more impressed by the speedy production of the track - the others are really naff - than by Bale spitting the dummy.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 6:15:52 AM)

Bale is an excellent actor, no doubt about that. My ex hubby is an actor, so know that it's true regarding the frequency of tantrums on sets. Letting off steam due to the ridiculous hours/conditions many actors suffer is one thing, but to use one's position to belittle/denigrate another is beyond me and I fail to see why it is tolerated.  Regardless of a person's talents, even when they can enthrall millions of people worldwide, don't you feel that celebrities, in general, are afforded privileges that aren't extended to us (the hoi polloi) and which includes the licence to be verbally abusive?  If these people can exercise such amazing self-control when using their craft, they can damn well continue exercising it by being resectful towards others.

As for the crew member that was accused of ruining the scene. From what I heard, it sounded as if he was pretty new to that job and despite being clutzy on the set did not deserve to be humiliated in that manner.

He was the cinematographer on T4 (known nowadays as the director of photography), and not exactly new, having been cinematographer on 17 productions: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0403397/

Reportedly this was the second time he distracted Bale on a take.

I can't comment on whether it was deserved or not, having no filming experience myself.

T1981 -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 6:43:53 AM)

Entertaining video, to say the least!

RealityLicks -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 6:44:13 AM)

The Director of Photography has been around over a decade.  It's a bit much to walk on set twice during the biggest emotional scene in the movie.  It's only acceptable to reset the lights during a take with the prior agreement of the performers, one would assume.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Whoopi Goldberg has stepped forward and admitted that she's had the odd rant over the years, too.                                                                                                                                                                I think there's a world of difference between losing one's temper at work and a human reaction under duress.  Sir Paul Stephenson's outburst, claiming the Tory Party had initiated a media plot against him because of the Damian Green affair, was pretty embarassing but it actually landed him the top job because it showed he had vulnerable side - in short, he cared enough to lose his cool.                                                                                                                                  It's not like Bale strolled up and casually reeled off a string of insults with a calm manner - that would be humiliating.  Instead, he was so invested in his performance that the constant distractions caused him to lose the plot.  We all have a boiling point somewhere and the flipside to exercising all that self-control is the greater likelihood of throwing tantrums.                                                                                                                                                                                             Is it the sort of thing David Niven would have done?  Probably not often.  But then its hard to picture David Niven playing in The Terminator.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  And I still think the track is funny. [8D]

BbwCanaDomme -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 9:55:32 AM)

I know people who have worked with Bale (on The Machinist), and from what I've heard this isn't an accurate portrayl of what he's like as a person. For the DP to walk into frame, costing potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars, taking the lead (a noted method actor) out of character, and completely ruining a scene is totally unacceptable. I'm surprised McG wasn't yelling along with him. From what I've heard this happened multiple times, and if this guy is working as the DP on big budget productions like this one, he's not new. It takes a long time and a lot of experience to get into that position. If anything, I feel bad for Bale that this got out.

Did anyone see the I Heart Huckabees director/Lily Tomlin freakout? It's pretty amazing.

KatyLied -> RE: Christian Bale's Oscar Winner (2/4/2009 10:08:03 AM)

Christian Bale is hot hot hot
