Yes, it is hurting our relationship.

I find it interesting to see people saying "I'm making a lot of money, so I'm safe".  That shows how little they understand the situation the world is in right now.  This may be the first time you've heard this said, but you can't eat money, and it'll only keep you warm on a cold night for a few seconds.

Side note: I've noticed a LOT of slaves up for sale on the other side.  Far more than normal.  Some for sale (I assume the master gets the money), some for rent, some simply "free to a good home".  With food and shelter becoming more scarce, the toys, slaves, and pets of the world are scrambling for what they see as safety... and impoverished owners everywhere are turning to release, rental, or sale as a viable option.  Kinda disturbing.

I'm sorry if it makes others "feel more crap" but I agree with CatdeMedici.  I'm a very realistic person but I still maintain that if Master and I keep our priorities straight, our relationship is not going to unravel.  Now granted, we are married and live together - we no longer have to drive 13 hrs. to be together as we did for awhile - so I'm sure that figures in majorly.  But, to me, the bottom line is...even if we were still living so far apart, that does not necessarily mean the relationship has to suffer or end.  Many people have made it through lean times and I contend one always can if they so choose.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel if you don't give up..................luci

I didn't see anyone saying "I'm making a lot of money, so I'm safe."  The closest thing to that was when I said we are doing OK and able to pay our bills and still have some left over for things we enjoy.  I do understand the "situation in the world right now" quite well but I also (even better) understand the situation in my own life and our own home right now.  The economy be damned, it's not gonna hurt our relationship.  That's a commitment we both made - that NOTHING would come between us - and the shitty economy nor anything else ever has or will.  You have to choose to let things impact you negatively.  We could lose our house, our jobs, our vehicles - whatever - but that doesn't mean we have to lose our love, commitment, etc. - all the good things we share.  Losing money and property would be beyond our control.  Losing each other would be a clear choice and it just ain't gonna happen.  And the line about "you can't eat money?"  Makes as much sense as "Guns don't kill people, people do."[8D]................luci

Thank you JustDarkness for saying that.

I am not going to argue for our limitations. Things happen at times. Yes there is a will and yes there will be a way, but sometimes things happen. Realistically life happens. We make the most out of it, and know this to shall pass.

I know JD your comment was made in a lighthearted manner, so My response is not an attack....

you see that's the problem with society today----we have made relationships and people disposable--"oh times are hard-cya sweetheart"----"ohhh I have to work more, can't  manage you too--cya sweetheart"--IMHO in this day and age that's crap. Look at the story of Alastella---financial, political and social barriers and for how many years? They endured, look at KnightofMist and Kyra--distance, time, different countries and they endured. Realistically at the end of the day, it should be family and relationships that we work hardest to protect--but those sadly become the first thing dumped. Nope, not with you on this one at all--if the relationship is meant to be, with the advent of thje internet, cell phones, text messages and god forbid the use of snail mail--a relationship can and will survive---but the WILL has to be there.

And BTW, My sub lives 3 hours from Me and due to life issues, I am about to send him 1000 miles FARTHER away for the time being and you can bet your bippy, the relationship is not going to suffer--because in My world there is nothing stronger than My will, My determination and My family.

And some of our friends said to him " where a will is, is a way" and then didn't help him.LOL..made me a bit allergic to that text. But agree...if you really want....you can do a lott...sadly not always everything. And people do give up easily..no will to fight. Guess we are spoiled.

I agree  with you 100%, My company just went through massive layoffs, the rest of us left are experiencing survivor's guilt as they call it---it sounds pretty damn trite to say, hey buck up ole bean it can always get worse or it will get better when-- you aren't the one in the situation--yet what do we do? How do we offer some kind of solace. support, words that inspire--anyway, thoughts for another thread---I am with you, just a firm believer that a voice in the darkness is at least better than no voice at all...

I'd hope.

MistressAinCT -> RE: The economy and D/s relationships (2/4/2009 6:06:18 AM)

Many people bust their asses to rub two nickels together whether it be networking or picking up cans for the refund money and yet, "where there is a will there is a way" isn't working for them.  They have the will, they search for the way, they are still behind in their mortgage.  My former boss is that example.

Be that as it may, I think the person who said that wasn't talking totally financial, but "where there is a will there is a way" meaning that if we stick together, we can make it work.  I didn't post this because I was worried about not making it work-I love this man, he loves me and I will do what it takes-but I was merely wondering if relationships are suffering.

It's nice to see that many are not in this hard world, but things can change at a moment's notice and it doesn't hurt to be prepared.  Folks may think "money can't buy you love" but it sure "can feed the bulldog" (if you want to go down the cliche route).

There have been threads posted on the boards regarding something like "why do Dommes want financially secure subs?".  If the economy wasn't such an issue, then whether a slave/sub makes money shouldn't matter.  The fact is we are a financial society as of late. We have to be worried about the relationship we have with the future, and the future we have with our relationship.

I commend the strong ones, and I feel for the ones suffering.

Who I am, is in no danger. None of my relationships are in any danger. The economy, and whatever may come of it, isn't going change me, or my relationship dynamics.

chiaThePet -> RE: The economy and D/s relationships (2/4/2009 7:13:38 AM)

Well, the neighborhood ProDommes have begun door to door cookie sales.

Seems the "Daisy Go Rounds" are popular with the poly crowd,

and the "Tagalongs" are a definite fav with the pony and furry folks.

Personally, I fired the maid, cook and gardener, kidnapped my neighbor

Lucille, chained her in the basement for a speed course of domestic

duties befitting a slave, and have initiated a much needed intervention

dealing with her pissy attitude and total disregard for authority figures.

I vote that Chia be taken in hand by our new, young, female dominant, Nikita..

I think it would be a perfect match.

I suppose it has to a degree.

Both the husband and the slave work for an income.

Since I finished my degree and have not found a job and the local colleges are not hiring adjuncts at this time in my field, I'm just writing, managing the household, and on the job market again this year. (by the way, the academic job market has completely crashed this season)

I feel bad about not contributing in a steady fashion to our household income. That's my feeling though.

Because Fox never contributed more money than what he costs the household it hasn't affect our dynamic really.

My feeling depressed or stressed though can affect things when I allow them to. It can be a struggle to stay on top of negative emotions. The Ds actually helps in that regardless of whether or not I get an interview or a university cancels a position (this has happened to like 25% of the jobs that were posted in the fall) that there is someone in the world who sees my power and kneels to me, obedient to my word and focused on making my life easier and more fun.
