Sanity -> Michael Steele wins RNC chairmanship race (1/30/2009 1:36:48 PM)

This is great news for Conservatives everywhere - the RNC just took a hard right-hand turn with the new CONSERVATIVE RNC Chairman:

quote:

WASHINGTON - Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele beat out South Carolina GOP chief Katon Dawson in the sixth round of voting at Fridays Republican National Committee meeting Friday, becoming the first African-American chairman of the party.

The two Republicans fought for the national party chairmanship Friday after Mike Duncan, former President George W. Bush's hand-picked national GOP chief, abandoned his re-election bid in the fact of dwindling support.

Duncan's departure ensured a fresh face at the beleaguered GOP's helm as Republicans seek to rebound from back-to-back defeats in national elections that gave Democrats control of Congress and the White House.

I think Steele is a really good choice for the times.
Couching him as a hard right turn is questionable he was cited as the most moderate of the 6 running for the spot in the article.

Sounds like a good choice.

He's a great choice. I've had the chance to hear him speak, and Steele really impresses me.

That's him. Very moderate by GOP standards. Not a hard right turn no matter what anyone says.

Shh...don't burst his bubble.  See, he doesn't have many bubbles to keep him happy anymore...

I`m happy.He`s a tool.

I think it`s a racial play by desperate republicans,that won`t work for their target audience.He`ll do more damage than good,there.

He was part of the back room movement to kill Ron Paul`s candidacy early on,even as Mr Paul was out pacing most of his rivals in donations.He`s just another out of touch neo-con,who was the least objectionable of the lot.

Mr Paul was the only genuine republican in the primary and might have won, hadn`t it not been for people like Steele.

Republican primary voters didn`t want Steele`s choices to run for POTUS and voted that way.He`s out of touch with average middle class republicans,the one`s who voted for Paul or McCain in the primary.

His win for chairman of the RNC singles more of the same of that out of touch`ness.

Steele right after the Fox debate saying about Ron Paul`s chances" he`s done",.......and then two days later.What a tool.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
More of the same lame GOP tripe. See how he excuses Palin`s dubious associations while repeating word for word the GOP talking point about "Obama hasn`t explained"<ooww scary>his associations"which was a flat out lie....    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hc0Z7sr4mA
He`s really perfect for the republicans because he`ll do and say what ever neo-cons want him to.
Steele will do for the GOP,what Palin did for McCain`s campaign,though.His wishy-washy wisely ways will out weigh and positives he brings to the table.
He`s really perfect for the neo-cons(who run the RNC)because Steele will do and say whatever they want him to.
DarkSteven -> RE: Michael Steele wins RNC chairmanship race (1/30/2009 6:49:27 PM)
Something that makes me happy is that I don't think his race played a significant role.  Between him and Obama, I think the US is growing more colorblind.
Hippiekinkster -> RE: Michael Steele wins RNC chairmanship race (1/30/2009 7:05:24 PM)
Wasn't he a Democrat a couple years ago?
corysub -> RE: Michael Steele wins RNC chairmanship race (1/30/2009 8:44:58 PM)
Great choice for head of the RNC.  He's a good man and really a great "outside man" and excellent communicator.
DomKen -> RE: Michael Steele wins RNC chairmanship race (1/30/2009 10:24:17 PM)
Steele may be a good choice but he isn't any sort of outside man. He was just the head of GOPAC which is about the most inside job in the GOP.
"excellent communicator."
Check out the last section where Steele speaks,at 6:30 min.
True tool.
The outside man and moderate guy shpeel, is just PR spin to hide the fact that the GOP leadership is going to the right.Nothing`s changed.
It's almost like the Repubs are in some kid of fucked-up arms race.
For a minute there, I thought he said he was DNC chairman! [sm=fight.gif]  M
Sanity -> RE: Michael Steele wins RNC chairmanship race (1/31/2009 5:50:37 AM)
Thank you Steven. Thank you for that.
No, race didn't play any role. Michael Steele has been a solid and sound voice inside the GOP for a good long time, and he's well liked and respected by most. I think that the majority of people in this country have moved beyond judging every situation or person based on race, and it's a very good day for the nation in that way.
I hear ya...but I guess it depends on one's definition of "outside man".  In business, we refer to partners, for example, as one being a great "inside guy" who can take care of the details,inventory, coming up with new ideas..and an "outside guy" who can run with the ball and market the enterprise and build the brand.  I think Steele will be an excellent guy to sell the tarnished republican brand. He is a dynamic guy with solid conservative values.  Playing against team Pelosi and her 50 year old playbook is going to make his job even more rewarding.  Lets see what happens in two years.
