I really bet the government wished it had control of it and there tax it, dangerous though it may be.

I suspect that this is a big part of the issue.  It's pretty much impossible to control marijuana.  The stuff is exceedingly easy to cultivate.  Trying to regulate and tax it as a legal product would be like trying to regulate and tax tomatoes or green beans.

Not my tomatoes!    Oh crud!

Though there are enough stoners out there that wouldn't take the time to grow and roll their own.   I bet they'd make a tax dollar mint...

Number one suggestion overall at Change.Gov is:
"Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?"

NB:  I don't partake, but feel people should be allowed to make that choice on their own.

Okay, so they officially made it "more bad"?  IMO it's not bad at all, and nobody has the right to stop anyone else from doing what they want to themselves.  The UK is heading toward fascism quickly, if they're not already there.  The police state is definitely in place in the UK, by some accounts even moreso than in the US.  This move doesn't surprise me, and I'd be shocked if there was much protest over it.  The people in the UK are so controlled by their government they don't even know how bad they've got it half the time.

As for Obama, he's made it very clear he's against all chemicals and drugs that are currently illegal, because they're, well, illegal.  Illegal is bad, kids, stay away from illegal things. Obama says he is against marijuana use.
