Nothing will be done about this, I'm sure.

True enough, but hardly news.  A Federal judge ruled over a year ago that the Bush administration's wiretapping was a felony.

This is why "Freedom of the Press" is one of our most important rights!
We (all of us Citizens!) need to be very watchfull of our govt.

Russell Tice should be tried for treason, in my opinion.  The man worked for the NSA, one of the most sensitive top secret agencies in government and he is on "talk TV" discussing what went on in the inner circles.  If he had any proof of a felony comitted by anyone where is it?  Why is he not going before the Attorney General of the United States instead of gaining his 15 minutes of "infamy" on of all places...the Keith Olberman show!   Why waste time, Mr. Tice should just hop on plane and go to Iran and just spill out every secret he might know.

To the credit of the Obama administration, he is being totally ignored.  No one likes a traitor...even a liberal administration.  He is not defending the constitution....he is looking for a job!  Thankfully, he will never be in a sensitive intelligence gathering position for the rest of his life.

On what charge?

Aszhrae -> RE: Bush administration broke the law to spy on the American people (1/23/2009 6:46:32 PM)

Come on, you had to have realized they were up to no-good since the establishment of Homeland Security.
Now I am not completely sure but didn't Germany do the exact same thing during the time that their economy was taking a beating and didn't Germany's Homeland Security eventually become the SS.
In order to establish such a group of individuals, doesn't social liberty need to be ignored.
While Bush was in office, I thought that the Statue of Liberty should have been dismantled at least while the Republicans were in charge.
Most certainly not all men were treated equal. There were a lot of things going on that most certainly poked holes in the very foundations of what the US has been built.

corysub -> RE: Bush administration broke the law to spy on the American people (1/23/2009 6:59:42 PM)

Another "scoop" by Keith Olbmerman who has nothing to say with G W now a private citizen.  This story has been around since 2005!  This guy Tice has been before grand juries, congressmen, was the "source" for the New York Times article that exposed our secret NSA wiretap program to our enemies, and is judged to be a nutcase.  There are stories on google that in his last year he was literally pumping gas....I can believe that.!!

Certainly, to be on the KO show is one of the qualifications for the "cookoo nest"

Not likely.

This is new info.

The torrent of whistle blowers that will come forth don`t need to worry that bush is spying on them or getting them fired or divulging the IDs our secrete CIA agents.

No and no.  The SS (Schutzstaffel) started as a company in the SA (Sturmabteilung), and it's task was to serve as bodyguards for senior Nazi Party officials.  It wasn't part of the German government in the beginning, because the Nazis weren't in power.  When Hitler did take power, the SS was a personal guard for him.  It grew larger with added combat units, and it later took control of intelligence, the Gestapo, and concentration camps.  Germany never had a "Homeland Security" department like ours.

The reason that the Homeland Security Department was established was to make sharing of information easier between agencies responsible for protecting the United States internally.  It was a good idea to consolidate all these agencies.  One of the big problems on 9/11 was the lack of communication and coordination amongst all these seperate agencies.  I think a lot of mistakes have been made in it's formation, but it wasn't a conspiracy to impose Nazi-esque control over the U.S.  It's really silly to believe that; it's paranoia at its worst.

Although it's been pretty clear they were doing illegal wiretapping, there is a lot more concrete evidence now. The expiration of Bush and Cheney's term of office has made a lot of people more comfortable about coming forward and reporting these abuses without fear of reprisal.

Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are the ones who should be tried for treason.

The question is not so much "is he sure" as "does he care".

Wrong on both counts.

The SS was established in 1925 as a personal guard unit for Nazi leader Adolf Hitler ("Die Schutz-Staffel der NSDAP" [Shield Squadron of the NSDAP]).

The term Sturmabteilung predates the founding of the Nazi party in 1919. It originally comes from the specialized assault troops used by Germany in World War I

FEMA will take care of the imprisoning of people now that Posse Comitatus has been changed and their camps are already up and running.

Homeland security has done nothing to help protect America against a word...a feeling called terrorism.

BTW, it has been clear for some time that this past admin. was impeachable years ago but with the repubs having complete control of their corruption for 6 of the last 8 years that is now coming home to roost...it would never be voted on.

No actually, I'm not wrong.  The SS existed prior to 1925.  It and it's parent group the SA were banned by the Weimar government in 1923 following the Beer Hall Putsch.  It came back into existence in 1925 when it was reorganized as Hitler's personal guard.

Yes the term, "Sturmabteilung" predates the Nazi Party.  It doesn't change the fact that it was used as the name for the paramilitary group in the Nazi Party.  Not a single thing I said was wrong.

As for your New World Order FEMA conspiracy theory nonsense.....[:D][:D].
I don't take the ranting of NWO conspiracy theorist loonies seriously, and they have ZERO proof of any of this nonsense.

The Department of Homeland Security wasn't formed to protect us from a "word."  It was formed to organize existing agencies to better coordinate in efforts to protect us from actual, physical beings that mean to do us harm.

Owner59 -> RE: Bush administration broke the law to spy on the American people (1/23/2009 10:50:41 PM)

Why did they target members of the press?

Certainly not because that would "save lives" or "prevent attacks", the bushie`s catch-all excuse for their law-breaking.

If true, how can this be justified?

I see your point Kitten.  Actually I should have said "other than anarchists or New York
Times editors, no one likes a traitor whether a conservative, liberal, moderate or politically uninvolved".   I have to let go of the impact of having to listen to eight years  of  "Bush bashing" calling our President every vile name in the dictionary because people disagreed with his politics.  I don't think that often irrational personal hatred expressed by many on the left was conducive to good quality debate.

With respect to the "Times" (and I don't mean I respect the "Times") the gray lady is dying and hopefully won't be around in a few years.  Their debt was just downgraded to "junk" which is ironic since it defines what I think of the editorial content.  Wouldn't it be something if Rupert Murdoch bought the Times in a few years at pennies on the dollar.
