though I do think it's funny that no press was allowed in. the first ever behind-closed-doors presidential oath.

i'll bet they did it just to shut up folks like rush who'd be screaming about how he never really took the oath of office and some such crap.  got to dot the i's and cross your t's with folks like them.  i found it amusing when i watched it.

Funny to me that hey was made out of this. There is little chance he will actually live up to that oath. That part about "from enemies" and then references to foreign AND domestic trips 'em up every time.

Well, Bush strove to trash the Constitution every chance he got.  I'm hoping Obama takes it more seriously.  At least he's known for his understanding of the law, unlike Bush, who was drunk and stoned during his college years.

What ever happend to  " this will be the MOST transparent administration?" , and wasnt that comment made on wednessday?

Actuall O'bama was not the first to have the vows done incorrectly.  There hahave been i think 4 presidents who had to redo the vows.  Just about every TV news has the list of the others who retook the vows. 

As for behind closed doors, if that where really true than none of us would be writing about it.   

If this is the first you have heard of this what cave have you been in, it has been on the news the second he was done with the vows on the 20th.

And to all those saying he was not President, because of the mistake, read the WHOLE document, not just the parts that support your POV.  He became President at noon on 20th, with or without the vows taking place.

AMENDMENT XX
Passed by Congress March 2, 1932. Ratified January 23, 1933.
Note: Article I, section 4, of the Constitution was modified by section 2 of this amendment. In addition, a portion of the 12th amendment was superseded by section 3.
Section 1.
The terms of the President and the Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

Section 2.
The Congress shall assemble at least once in every year, and such meeting shall begin at noon on the 3d day of January, unless they shall by law appoint a different day.
Section 3.
If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.
Section 4.
The Congress may by law provide for the case of the death of any of the persons from whom the House of Representatives may choose a President whenever the right of choice shall have devolved upon them, and for the case of the death of any of the persons from whom the Senate may choose a Vice President whenever the right of choice shall have devolved upon them.
Section 5.
Sections 1 and 2 shall take effect on the 15th day of October following the ratification of this article.
Section 6.
This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission.

What's funny is if taking the oath precisely as specified in the US Constitution defined becoming President then GWB was never President since neither time he took the oath did he use exactly what was specified in the US Constitution. The same holds true for every President at least as far back as we have recordings of the oaths being administered..

It was pretty silly that he had to retake the oath.  I believe that it is the meaning of the oath the founders were woried about, not the exact wording.  This had to have been done toblock the whining naysayers.  He was president when GW's term ended according to the constitution.  That is that.

I know, those people who demand the constitution be followed are such crap.

I really hate when they bring up things like the first, second, fourth, fifth, ninth, and tenth amendments. I mean come on! what do these perfectionists want?
