rednicky -> Good D/s books (1/21/2009 7:40:57 AM)

Can anyone recommend any D/s Books/novels? I'd really like to read one. And one with a defiant sub. I used to be into Linda Lael Miller's work but she's only, in my opinion, written 2 good books. Her style is usually old westerns and women ending up in circumstances with men they don't particularly like. The Guy is Dominant and the woman is stubborn. D/s gold. There is usually spanking involved. But then feelings develop.

So can anyone recomend some books? Please do not say "The story of O". I got 4 chapters in before getting sick of it.

Check out Lora Leigh's books for starters. Hot as hell and definite undertones of D/s in them and spanking, etc. Laurell K Hamilton's series also has bdsm in them, especially the newer Anita Blake books. There's tons more out there too through Ellora's Cave and Aphrodisia (sp) if you want to search them.

I always liked Ann Rice's Beauty series, although you'll have to wait until books 2 & 3 before the subbies get stubborn
I also like Anais Nin's Delta of Venus although it's not strictly D/s

There's another book (I forget the author's name) called Submission
fictional story of a married French woman who meets & cheats with a Dom/colleague
That book is AWFUL!!!  DO NOT GET!!

DavanKael -> RE: Good D/s books (1/21/2009 8:07:16 AM)

I agree: "The Story of O" left a lot to be desired.
"Exit to Eden" is another of Anne Rice's erotic novels and it's a stand-alone.
Of course, Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series (6 books now) is awesome.

Oh hell yeah...forgot the Kushiel's series *smacks self*

Wow so many. I didn't even think I'd get 2 responses. Which would you say is the best option?

CatdeMedici -> RE: Good D/s books (1/21/2009 8:13:07 AM)

There isn't any better than Shakespeare's " Taming of the Shrew".

I say do a search on Barnes and Noble or Amazon or whatever and read the blurbs and exerpts from what's been suggested and see which ones trip your trigger to get and read.

I've been told by folks that my novel "Servants of Destiny" has a nicely uppity slave in the first half of the book.

Oooo no slaves. Not my thing. But reading the reviews, I will do.

DarkSteven -> RE: Good D/s books (1/21/2009 5:38:08 PM)

I read The Story of O.  All the way through.  Pity me.

RoamingCaptive -> RE: Good D/s books (1/25/2009 8:43:49 AM)

Personally, my own favourites are the Kushiel trilogies. The former especially. But for something a little closer to home there's always the Market Place series by Laura Antoniou. They are available at Amazon and surely many other places as well.

Someone else mentioned "Taming of the Shrew"... *smiles* I agree wholeheartedly.

I hope you find what you seek - and then some *smiles*

You might try my short story collections then. Not all of those stories have slaves in them.

VanDarksyd -> RE: Good D/s books (1/25/2009 11:10:29 PM)

Anita started out as a hell of a character, with a very "fuck men, I know what the fuck I'm doing" attitude. And then she got some vampire dick and just quit wearing pants altogether. I wasn't happy about that.

Yeah she is more of a switch now and the books have really focused on the sex part, which is ok but I'd like a bit more of the old Anita.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack.

SassySarijane -> RE: Good D/s books (1/26/2009 6:53:28 AM)

Adding to hijack a bit: Yes I do miss a lot of the old Anita and am not entirely happy with her growth and evolution, but some other characters, I really like how they've grown and evolved, seeing them finding themselves, learning more and more about them.

DominaSmartass -> RE: Good D/s books (1/26/2009 7:05:20 PM)

My favorite book is "Carried Away" by slave david stein. You can get it on amazon. Of course it's nothing much like the others suggested here but I dare you to check it out ;)

alwayssummer -> RE: Good D/s books (1/27/2009 12:54:00 AM)

Thanks for writing about Linda L Miller. Years ago she did business with me.  I had no idea who she was.  She sent me a thank you with one of her books.  It must have been one of the two you enjoy.  I thought it was wonderfully hot and have smiled every time since when I see her books in the supermarket.  I would love to know the title of the other one you enjoy.  Funny too, I have never read anyone  else mention this hugely bestselling romance writer as an evocative bdsmer. I thought it was all in my imagination, because  Miller is so mainstream.
Thanks also for pointing up this genre of dominant guy/rebellious woman.  I had never thought of it in romance novels, because I do not read them much, though it has a  pretty rich history in Hollywood movies-
Hepburn and Stanwyck screwball comedies and John Ford/Wayne westerns (especially Mcclintock) will be very enjoyable to you if you do not already know them.
What an interesting subject - I can hardly wait to reread TAMING OF THE SHREW too now.
