PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Distribution, January 14th, 2009.
The Committee for Indiana Honest Money is happy to announce that their
proposed legislation, "The Indiana Honest Money Act", has been
introduced to the Indiana General Assembly today. The bill was
submitted by Senator Greg Walker of District 41, (R-Columbus), and
has been assigned to the Senate Tax and Fiscal Committee for
reading, review and consideration. The bill as submitted is Senate
Bill 453 (SB453), and specifically adds: "ARTICLE (4-) 8.3. GOLD AND
SILVER COIN AND ELECTRONIC CURRENCY". Senator Walker

SB453, the Indiana Honest Money Act (IHMA), is based on model
legislation authored by Dr. Edwin Vieira of Virginia, and is the model

SB453 reintroduces gold and silver as a medium of currency,
establishes criteria for species exchange, species vault and
digital/electronic currency providers; and jumpstarts the process by
requiring the State to collect tobacco taxes and revenues in digital
gold currency, and to make available digital gold currency as a
payment option both to and from the state./snip

Don't blame me, I'm in Indiana, but the money thing, I didn't do it. I am still pissed that we had to change to daylight savings time however, so maybe I'm just a rebel (ya think?), so perhaps the money thing isn't such a bad idea...lmao.

There was another state that tried something similiar a couple years back. I want to say Nevada, but don't quote me on that. Anyway, I seem to recall that the news suddenly vanished, and the silver coinage never came to fruition.

I suspect a representative of the PTB will soon clue these Hoosiers in, and tell them just how things will be done from that point forward... or else.

My guess? You won't hear another peep about this in the very near future. I hope I'm wrong, of course.

Nixon removed any and all precious metal ties to our currency in the early 70's. The tie had been waning but he dealt the death blow.

Article 1, Section 10:

No state shall ... make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts ...

it is a great idea.

paper gold, is paper. paper silver is paper.

gold has been a store of wealth for 5000 years. not paper. they never chase paper on a sunk ship wreck. no. they want the gold.

The Lehigh Valley of PA where I live wants to do the same thing. Seems it's becoming a popular idea in lots of places.

Gold was locked at US$36 and europeans, particularly France,were having a field day for years cashing in our dollars for gold. That price was set by FDR when he confiscated all the gold bullion held by Americans and made it a crime to own gold other than for jewelry or commercial purpose With gold now over $US850 it was a dern good thing to do what Nixon did....

China and India now encourage their people to buy gold. Not so in America. I think we are in for more bizzarre "solutions" to the "liquidity crises". The bear sterns bail out lasted how many days? Some of these places are now on the 3rd bail out.
