It looks like it may be a time of upheaval again for me shortly. As some of you know i run a pub and business is pretty bleak at the moment, leading me to believe i will soon be moved on by the company i work for. I could be moved back to Yorkshire, i could be moved ten minutes away from where i am. To be honest your guess is as good as mine. So far i have moved 3 times in the 18 month i have worked for my company and its quite difficult. I not only move job but home too.

Recently i started seeing someone who is pretty much in the same boat as me, may have to move soon for work. It has always been stated between us that we can't commit to much due to the afore mentioned reasons. We both know where we stand, neither one is in the dark or has any illusions.

I got to thinking tonight though that really without a place to call home i'm not going to be able to commit to much in the near future with anyone. I really hadn't thought of this before now, before i realised i may be moving on again. I've never been in a relationship when it has been time to move!!

I know people who work away a lot manage all this quite nicely in the main, but in general they are always going back home after being away, returning to the same place.

So i was wondering is anyone else in a similar boat to me?

Not now, but I certainly understand.  I always thought I'd be a travelling nomad until I actually lived in Ireland.  I then returned "home" to the US and experienced a simultaneous homecoming and extreme homesickness.  It was then that I realized that no matter how much travelling I did, I always wanted a home base waiting for me somewhere.

And since I've moved and/or changed jobs at least once a year since 2002 except 2007, it becomes a weary road very quickly.  Where I am now isn't a dream castle, but KNOWING that there's no real reason I'll have to move again for a few years makes it a very wonderful place.

I think it's wise to know that if your life isn't in a stable place that it's not the time to try and form a stable relationship.

I think I must be made of different stuff.  My feet get itchy about every third year, and I start wondering if the grass is any greener over.....there!

I'm in the place I think of as "home" and have my entire life.  I admit, it does my eyes good to see the familiar sights of my childhood and feel the beautiful, beautiful rain.  I would consider moving again, but only if work requires it, or My Lord sees fit to make it so.

We are both made of the same wanderlust (My Lord's a former trucker) so we find it easy to maintain a commitment.  The stability in our life is one another, and that works for us.

I agree that if you are not settled, internally or externally, it may not be a good time for a stable relationship.  My Lord and I are fortunate to have found another.  At this point, however, he is saying he would like to find a home from which he never has to move again.  That being the case, it's possible I may have found myself at "home" for good after all.

Good luck with your move.
