So as not to hijack Jewel's "That First Home Visit..." thread:

http://www.collarchat.com/m_2389704/tm.htm

I had a companion thought. Have you ever or would you ever "bait" a prospective partner with something when they visited your home? Not laying a C note under their drink coaster but perhaps some small amount of cash on a nearby table mixed in with some other meaningless papers and items. I've never done it and honesty wouldn't since I would never invite anyone into my home if I felt the slightest motivation to do such but you never really know who you are dealing with sometimes. All it takes is one time of getting burned for strategies like this to become plausible and internet folks on the whole seem to be a bit skeptical as it is. I'm wondering if anyone else ever did this.

No, but I've considered it with a few that I was going to invite........before they blew it.

No I dont. Very few people get invited to my home, and when they do I treat them like they are a wonderful guest. I never had anything taken, except my heart by Sir.

it wouldnt occur to me to do that.  I don't invite just ANYBODY into my home.  The one time I did get screwed was well documented here (not by me, I might add).

But that didn't stop me from inviting the next houseguest.

I try to weed out the ones who may do anything to destroy my trust before they even get to my home. I treat my home as a sanctuary and I defend it with my life. I have never and never will have anything stolen from me or destroyed because of a untrustworthy person. I don't bring people to my home unless I have reason to trust them. Following simple instructions is a good indicator of if they are trust worthy or not.

Epona.. if you look at the thread that was linked to in the OP here, you'll see that Jewel, Twice and Scooter had no reason to distrust the person.

I'm pretty trusting for the most part myself. Again, my biggest concern with inviting someone to my home is that I do have a baby...and let's face it...I don't trust most men around her who aren't family...and even then. I'm less worried about things getting stolen, than bringing someone unsavory into my home and having her pay the price.

Sometimes though, it's just hard to know who you're dealing with. But I can usually...feel a person out before I bring them home. Usually they'll say or do something that'll make me double back. But that's just not always the case. Would I try to set them up or something...just to see...? I don't know. I can't imagine that I would. Like the O.P. said, I probably wouldn't invite someone into my home that I felt I needed to do that to.

I admit it.  I've done it.  Though it was more a preliminary test before someone was invited home.

Very simple, really,  Take the credit cards out of the wallet and just have a bit of cash in it instead.  Leave the subject alone in the room with the purse.  Make sure you mention said cash before leaving the room and be gone long enough to give opportunity.  (A visit to the front desk, perhaps.)

I only did it once, but yes, that person made it through and did make it into the house at a later date.  Never had a problem with him being in My home.

I could see it being necessary... but since Master's the only one I've had in my home (and honestly I was at his a lot first) he hadn't been to my apt before he gave me a key to his -- and gave me much the opportunity to destroy him had I so wanted to. I didn't, and now I live with him. I've never stolen from him... I mean, I took his pocket change when I do laundry and he has some (rarely) but it's just in a dish in the bedroom, not like I really stole it.

Well, thankfully at my place over here isn't much which I would call "valuable." Certain things which are from value are kept in my parents home in germany as I don't want to have the responsibility for them as long as I am living here how I live at the moment. Once I settle down in my next country (on my own or with a partner) then I will take them with me, therefore the risk for me over here is limited. I also am fairly trustworthy, because if I can't trust the person into my home, then I wouldn't invite him in the first place, but even when you trust a person things can still go wrong, thats just how life is at times...you never stop learning  But nevertheless, I try to stay positive when I get involved with others. A current contact gets the impression at times that I would be negative, but I am not...am just a bit more cautious maybe...

Frankly if a person doesn't trust me enough by the time they invited me to their home and had to leave money or valuables lying around as a test, then how can I trust them to trust me if we got into a relationship? If the cash and/or valuables don't belong to me then as far as I'm concerned that money is simply colorful paper. I have yet to have anything stolen when I've invited a potential play partner to my home, just never felt I had to "test" anyone that way.

I don't feel any compulsion to tempt people into dishonesty. If an individual is inherently dishonest, it won't be long before we figure it out, but setting someone up to fail, due to some moment of weakness or failure to share our standards of 'visitor protocol'... that just isn't my style.

No but I never invite people I'm skeptical about or total strangers to my house..being a mom and all kinda puts a stop to all that nonsense.

No i have never felt the need to do anything like that. I do however or did used to leave my weeks taking lieing around until someone helped themselves. It wasn't an intentional trap but still.

No.  Never.  If I don't trust a person on that level, they don't get to walk through my door.
