Rhi, I was a special needs nanny for a dear friend of mine and I never took advantage of her whatsoever.  Why?  Because I loved her son as my own, even after I had my own child.  When she went back to school to get her social work degree, I was the one she called up to provide respite care so she could attend night school.

We were business first, friends second and with me keeping up my infact and child CPR certs, she was glad someone was there for her child that her son like (he loved pulling my hair and glasses half the time when hugging).

I know how you are feeling and hope you will get the help necessary without having to wade through the sharks wanting to take advantage of you and your father.

As a friend, knowing how to take good care of the elderly and for free, I would willingly giving someone I knew several hours per day/week/month of time off from their caregiving without any need for payback.  Taking money would be an insult to the friendship.  No need to use their computer, phone or watch their tv either, got my own and would take the instruction of specific care seriously.

Wish I knew ya and where you lived, I would gladly give 20 hours spread out throughout the week, I have the spare time currently and I certainly don't need the money.

edit: ok I checked, Oklahoma is far uhhg.

*laughs*  I also forgot to mention long road trips.  I was stuck in a car with a good friend for 2 days, and I wanted to strangle him after that.  [:D]

Truth. A friend of mine went on a road trip (17 hours each way), and 3 days before we left, the cd player got stolen from her car. So there was nothing to fill the silence other than talking, and by the time we got back, we hated each other so much that we didn't talk for close to 6 months. Good times!

That made no sense, but A+ for effort! I'm assuming that you meant to imply that it would take 17 seconds for someone to develop a dislike for me, but for someone who brags about their comedy prowess, I expect better from you. There are so many more clever ways to contribute nothing to a topic.

Where have I bragged? One can't be 'too clever' or you would miss out on any meaning. Ask a grown up to 'make sense' of it for you.

i think that it is great that you are taking care of your dad.

Can i suggest that a local nursing school or college with a geriatric care program, CNA program or something might have students that are looking for extra money... it is related to their field and would look good on a resume, might even qualify as a work/study program.

Just an idea.

The nursing program up at the community college is one of those resources that I haven't gotten around to tapping into yet.  It's been suggested before, and I was hesitant to do so because of the same "but it wouldn't be someone I know and trust" factor - which, well, isn't looking like Nearly so important a factor now as it did 6 weeks ago.  The nursing student idea is looking more and more attractive - and it would be someone that the state wouldn't whinge and whine about.  (Yes, having the state breathing down my neck is something that concerns me - massively - I need that stress even less than I need the stress of being without a consistant, reliable babysitter - the DHS and APS in this state tend to be obnoxious and harassing if given even the glimmer of an opportunity, and right now they consider the fraudulent case started by my brother during his eviction to be that opportunity.)

I'll have to wait until the new semester starts, which is the 20th, to go advertise up there and have a talk with the nursing program director about reccomendations amongst the final year students.  Since the college is only 6 blocks from the house, and I've been a student up there myself more than once, it shouldn't be to difficult.  Heck, it's close enough to the college that they could get to and from easily, without spending much in the way of gas money - if any.  I've been known to walk to classes up there when the weather is nice, and I'm not huge on walks that are longer than around the block lol.  (Something I need to start doing, but hell - now I've got a new excuse to avoid spending the time doing so.)

edited to add:  Axe - take it somewhere else.  I'm in no mood to be particularly forgiving of intentional sniping and other such crap, even in the name of "humor" - and it wasn't humorous.  Chronic Sleep Deprivation makes Rhi a very cranky girl.
