happypervert,

British pounds not dollars.

Lynnxz,

Hit the pictures link on this Bugatti Page and you will
see the different types and styles.

Personally I think the 57sc is much better looking than the 57s

That Bugatti is amazing - only 26k miles!  I wish I had a relative like that doc :)

The S7 has been a myth since day 1.  Maybe, someday, they'll actually produce and sell more than just a couple of "demo" models.
Same goes for Tesla, although they, at least, are close to production.
As for being "The 1st True American Supercar", uhm, I'll take a Viper or a Corvette any day.  Real cars that can be purchased now.

Although the things Saleen can do with a basic Mustang are nothing short of breath taking!

Well thanks Dave, me too, that is why I drive a corvette, an 01 C5. Love it, but if I could afford it? I would have a Saleen. However, I have never ever driven a car I loved like the vette.  [;)] Not the most practical car in Maine, but her, I have a 4wd for the bad months.

Here is the latest information I could find for a sale of similar car

Pebble Beach, California, August 18, 2008

Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the 58th annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, captured total sales of $64.2 million including several of the world’s rarest and most spectacular automobiles during its two-night auction on August 16 and 17. An international crowd of collectors and spectators were captivated as 140 lots crossed the auction block including top private collections, vintage racing cars and individual automotive objets d’art such the 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coupe, which sold for a stunning $7.92 million -- setting a record for the highest price ever paid for an automobile at a North American auction.

And that is restored not original.

This car will end up in some garage in the ME.

Lady E, they also found a E type Jag and a Aston Martin

You know those stories you hear about someone dying and
then a very rare expensive car is found in their garage?

Well, here is one for you:

New York Times

The Dailymail

One of these days I want to hear about a car lot going out of business...and wayyyyyyyyyy in the back during the clean up of the property, they found a "perfectly preserved Domme...auction begins at noon".

I'll be there.

I believe an original and in mint condition Silver Ghost, is the most expensive car.

Prussian that I am, I've always had a fondness for Renntech's Benz mods. Back when I had money, I wuz gonna take Sadie down to Florida and have her tweaked. Sigh.

Funnily enough just over 5 years ago a friend of mine sold a car that was the 2nd most expensive car sold at auction in the UK. His uncle who was a bit of a recluse had a large farm and had kept every car he had ever owned. The cars were stored around the farm in various buildings. Only close friends and some family knew of the collection and the whole thing was kept fairly secret. My friend sold one of the cars to pay for death duties and so that he could keep the farm.

When my friend and his wife moved into the place to start clearing it they found out what a hoarder the uncle had been. Suits hardly worn and from the 20s and 30s kept in wardrobes. A room that contained 6 pianos. They spent years clearing out all the things he had stored over the year. Hard work but can you imagine the fun that must have been.

Still not even close to the most expensive car ever built. The Lunar Rover cost over $100 million to design, test and construct. If you add the "shipping costs" to the moon, you'd have to build that Bugatti out of solid gold to come close.

Lynnxz -> RE: Most Expensive Car Ever? We Will See (1/4/2009 9:11:22 AM)

I'm pretty sure the lunar rover doesn't count. [8|]
