We have thieves in our house stealing food!!!

Last night we had corn muffins in ziplock bags on the table from dinner.  We came upstairs from playing on the Wii and found the corn muffins out of the bag, on the floor, half eaten and crumbs all over the kitchen.  The little thieves didn't even run or look guilty.  They stayed there with their noses buried in the crumbs munching away!!

Lila and Stitch, our two little kittens, have decided that anything that doesn't run away fast enough is fair game to be eaten.  This morning they started munching on Alandra's bagel & jam!

So how many others have raised thieves as pets?

[8|]  Oh good gravy, yer talking to the lady who's had ferrets AND cats AND dogs AND hedgehogs and a rabbit thrown in for good measure..... All at one time. On top of the 3 human monsters, errrrr, teenagers.

The house was a regular thieves den!

I've raised teenagers........ so yes, of course.

Additionally, I've always had pets. Most have been very well behaved, and have quickly learned to leave people food alone. But, I have one dog that is the sneakiest little bitch you ever saw. She can do a "drive by" right under my nose and not get caught. She would make a great pick pocket. Good thing she is such a good snuggler and has the most adorable face ever.

my kitten would sit on my shoulder and swipe the food off my fork.

I used to have a little dog, a yorkie mix, weighed all of about 3 pounds.  She was not a very good jumper.  She used to hide her dry dog food all over the house; she would paw at the carpet where it stopped at the wall, and put little pieces of dog food there.  When her food bowl was empty, I would walk around the house and retrieve all the hidden food to fill it back up again.  She was abused and starved before I got her from the pound.

One day, someone gave me a box of chocolates, and I put it on the kitchen table, then left.  When I got home, the box was knocked onto the floor and all the chocolate was gone.  For a moment, I was sure that she was going to die from eating her body weight in chocolate.  Then I started walking around the house, retrieving the chocolate from her hiding places, and none was missing.

I couldn't figure out how she had gotten the box in the first place, because she couldn't jump on the table.  A few weeks later, I didn't go to work in the morning like I usually did, and I was sitting in the living room reading a book.  Apparently she didn't realize I was home.  I look up to see her jump on a dining room chair, then wriggle her way up onto the table (the chair was pushed in).  She proceeds to walk all over the table, sniffing around for food.  I let her do that for a minute, then I sharply called her name.  Busted!  She jumped and then looked at me, put that sad puppy face on, that whole, "mommy, I didn't MEAN to do it" look.

Gawd I hate that look.

i have a jack russel mix who will jump on the table and look for goodies left behind.  you have to remember to push the chairs in to the table or he'll use the opportunity to sneak.  he was a "pound puppy" too, and is now a healthy weight.  i figure that behavior is so ingrained it's better to just keep him from getting in trouble than trying to break the behavior.

we had a dog that would steal eggs out of the chicken coop and would go into the garden and steal peas and green beans....lol

Oh, my little dog was born with a silver dog bone in her mouth, but she still steals food at any opportunity.  She has a cast-iron stomach and has eaten things that would put a small horse down.  But Moist & Meaty dog food gives her the major runs, go figure.

I have a picture of her as a little puppy....nursing on the mama cat with her three kittens that lived in the house where she was born.  Ooooh....snack time!

If you set a glass of milk down here Wednesday our baby kitty will have her paw in the glass scooping out milk.

I generally they are pretty good, but taylor has eaten many a things that are very bad for dogs thankfully he's grown out of that stage or I've grown better at doggy proofing the house.

This reminds me of my sister dog from years ago.  My sister came home warmed up a pizza in the microwave that she had been looking forward to for hours.  Well she made the mistake of putting the stuff down on the coffee table in the living room and going back to the kitchen for something to drink.  She goes.. dog take pizza downs it in seconsds and then runs the door and barks to get out.  Sister returns to Living room and has no pizza.  She went nuts.. but it had to happen once more about two weeks later before my sister learned her lesson  lol.

Well.. with Cleo it is not so much as stealing.. it is more like she is allowing you to eat it ( what ever "it" is) in her presence.. so therefore since she has been so gracious you must of course share.

She is big on sharing. She even shares her service slave ( Softandshy) with me on occasion ~ as long as she is napping and not in need of her of course.

She graciously shares her morning choc. milk with me. ~ I have having kittens and she knows it is good for them.
She graciously shares her cupcakes and biscuits with frosting with Soft.

She indulges us both with cereal, yougurt, and the occasional icecream.

Once in a while we will even be allowed to share her steak, or chicken with her.

She even allows me to share her nightly bath. I make a very good island with big tummy full of kitten. ~ So I am allowed to bathe in the same water as her.

We are very lucky pets you see.

Gwyn,
*chuckling*

Awww the poor thing.

I have seen resuced dogs, animals, and even previously abused humans do that. ( The hiding of the food but not eating it)

It is always so heart breaking.

Jeddie is not a chowhound parrot, but he expects to share ANYTHING I am eating in front of him, and I have to explain why I am not sharing something.  (ie "Coffee is HOT and will burn your crop").  I get the Sad Bird Look then, and of course provide a parrot safe snack out of guilt.  My ex's bird Alexis would fly over to anyone's plate and help herself.  One day while Hugh was at work she opened a cupboard, found a can of chocolate icing, opened it, and went wild!  I guess she was sticky icing all over.  Chocolate is bad for birds, but dang, they sure love it!

Our darling little kitten, Kali, likes to try just about anything she sees a human eating.  So far, she's loved tomato sauce, chicken, ice cream and popcorn.  She's so cute when it comes to the popcorn.  She'll only eat 3 or 4 pieces and then lick her lips and she's done.

On Christmas Eve, I was lying down across the bed with a wineglass full of eggnog in my hand.  She strolled up beside me, lapped out a big drink, licked her lips and laid down and took a nap.  Ah, what a life she has[:)]...............luci
