As Taken From Google and a few other sources this is the way the Princeton University Explains it. Can be found in various sites and traced back to the orginal papers as well as documented on Wikipedia (For as accurate as that is who knows) "This exchange of limericks began with the classic Nantucket limerick and went on from there! In June 14, 1924, the Princeton Tiger published the first limerick about Nantucket. The other papers answered suit. There once was a man from Nantucket, Who kept all of his cash in a bucket, But his daughter, named Nan, Ran away with a man, And as for the bucket, Nantucket. ... from the Princeton Tiger But he followed the pair to Pawtucket, The man and the girl with the bucket; And he said to the man, He was welcome to Nan, But as for the bucket, Pawtucket. ... from the Chicago Tribune Then the pair followed Pa to Manhasset, Where he still held the cash as an asset, But Nant and the man Stole the money and ran, And as for the bucket, Manhasset. ... from the New York Exchange Of this story we hear from Nantucket, About the mysterious loss of a bucket, We are sorry for Nan, As well as the man- The cash and the bucket, Pawtucket. ... from the Pawtucket Times" Steel
