MzMia -> Obama takes on Wall Street--Wall Street needs to be reformed! (12/18/2008 8:13:14 PM)

Well, Obama has named 3 more of picks for his economic team.
Obama has stated that there needs to be a shift of ethics on Wall Street,
and that Wall Street has lacked adult supervision.

I find the comment about "adult supervision" funny.[;)]
Is Obama suggesting that the folks in charge these days, are running around

wild in need of supervision?
Obama states that we are BADLY in need of reform!
I can't wait to see the "Changes" that are coming our way
.

Mary Schapiro will head up the Securities and Exchange Commission,
and  Obama stated "You all know Mary".

Apparently, Mary has a reputation for being someone who believes in strict
oversight of financial markets.

Actually, I don't know "Mary", but I am sure by the end of 2009,
I will know a lot about Mary Schapiro. [;)]

Well maybe you need to read the newspaper dude.
As I clearly stated, Obama said Wall Street needs "adult supervision".
What part of what I clearly stated is it that you don't get?
Obama said we need financial reforms, and Wall Street needs tighter regulations.
Here is a good link.

I don't know who "Obamessiah" is, but that doesn't matter, inasmuch as I don't  pay any serious attention to you either.

Whenever I see one of your posts, I am reminded of a dream I had way back before you were born, in which a cop friend of mine (I was a hippie, he was probably a narc, but that was, for some reason, completely irrelevant; we got along really well, even going camping together with our respective squeezes) was trying to teach me "Canadian mathematics". I'm thinking "Austrian economics" must be very similar.

The SEC needs to be turned upside down and shaken!
That Cox is an idiot.
The uptick rule should be brought back.
Funny that on a lot of days right at 3 o'clock stocks start going down!
Gee, I wonder why that is?
They should get rid of ..........a lot of things going on now.
I hope that the new SEC Chair fires 80% of the personel.

I believe Obama will  make changes.  The citizens of the US have learned through the wholesale fraud perpetrated on them over the last eight years that change of this sort is the only way the middle class will survive. One of the individuals I convinced to vote this year was a 61 year old male who had never been even registered before.  What impresses me the most about him at this time is that he is an Evangelical Christian who voted for Obama and now is backing Obama with even more gusto.   He believes that Obama is a moral ethical man who will lead us out of the wilderness but understands that it will take time.  When an Evangelical Christian and an atheist can agree on anything, it has a good chance of being right.  The key to Obama's success may be that we are willing to give him a couple of terms to unravel the conservative damage.  If a couple of terms is not enough, then Biden can take over.  They are ethical moral men.  I can only dream about what  the difference would be if they had been elected in 2000. I think they will succeed because the American people are behind them.

Hmm, something about a $50 Billion scandal, perhaps?

MzMia, Business Week removed the article, but here's a Yahoo version.

The SEC under Shrub has been about as effective as prayer is for a breech birth in a horse.
I am just astounded that we have had 8 count 'em EIGHT years of damn near no oversight at all and the radical capitalists piss and moan about the country being "over-regulated". Fine. There are damn few regulations in Afghanistan; let them move there. Might makes right there. Cutting edge of Capitalism. They can even grow poppies and refine heroin if they want. They can do any damn thing they want. They just won't have any "Mommy" to go crying to when they piss away all their assets. Fuck 'em.

Why is it Citibank doesn't have an "orderly bancruptcy"? Oh, they aren't >>>UNION<<< never mind.

gman992 -> RE: Obama takes on Wall Street--Wall Street needs to be reformed! (12/18/2008 11:13:23 PM)

The problem isn't Wall Street. It's Congress...they started this mess with the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac garbage. Half of the people on the Housing Committee including Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were taking money from them. Also, of course, Barry's chief economic advisor, who was under investigation. Of course, this all started with Clinton's HUD when they decided to give loans out to people who couldn't afford them. Is it ironic that loans designed to help people end homelessness made more people homeless when all of the banks shut down?

I'm sorry, dude, but the phrase 'adult supervision' does not say much to me. neither does saying something needs regulations or reforms. but for that matter, the phrase 'change' is also very vague...so perhaps you are aware of something I am not.

all I found in the article was this "
Obama has called for a broad changes in Wall Street regulations to prevent future crises and has said the structure of regulatory agencies is among the issues that should be considered. But he has not spelled out any specifics."

you should reread that last sentence.

so I ask my initial questions again. what is this 'adult supervision' and what ethics need to be changed?

gman992 -> RE: Obama takes on Wall Street--Wall Street needs to be reformed! (12/18/2008 11:17:30 PM)

Oh...when the Executive Branch wanted to examine Freddie and Fannie, the Dems on the House committee told them no. Can I send you the youtube video....They're politicians...they're corrupt...the best thing to do is to get rid of every single one of them! Both parties...just look what's happening now in Chicago.. I know ...I know...Blago is NOT the governor the Barry thought he was...

Oh please... Barney Frank turned all these tough guy "Free market" Republicans into his bitches? Hahahaha

Do you know that the nonsense you are spouting has been debunked at least 42 times here?

as I mentioned in a different thread, the Madoff scandle had been sniffed out by due-dillegence firms years ago. They (in this case, Askia LLC) warned their clients not to invest with Madoff, as they believed it to be a Ponzi scheme.

perhaps the SEC failed for other reasons than a "lack of regulatory power" as private firms were able to identify the problem easily. http://www.cnbc.com/id/28195326

um. which "Free Market" Republicans are you referencing? I'm only aware of one...maybe two Republicans I would call supporters of a free market so I'm a little confused.

Technically, that bad idea started with Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton just progressively double downed on that particular "16" hand (what the hell, it wasn't his money and it bought him votes for "caring").

And it's not so much irony as predictable consequence.

no. it's quite different...as one cannot be a little pregnant.

I think I understand what is hapening: hippiekinkster does not know the difference between a supporter of the free market and a rent seeker. however, there is the small chance that he does know what he is talking about and politicians who actually do support the free market have changed their tunes due to this recent fiatnomenon. I'm just asking for a little clarification.
