My thoughts on the Fairy tale - 12/15/2008 10:16:51 PM

Status: offline 		Ok, It's after 1am, and, as we all know, I post stupid things on here when I really should be sleeping! lol  So, with that said:

I was in my natural subby habitat today, on my hands and knees scrubbing my carpet (ok, so it wasn't so much my subby habitat, but more the fact that I'm a klutz, and as I was cleaning out the fridge, I dropped a bowl of month old ham and bean soup on the floor, and as it hit, the bowl exploded.  All over me, the floor, the cupboards, the fridge... Everything.) I got to think about Cinderella.  I was just wondering if any of you thought that once she actually got to the castle, if she continued to clean, and cook, and do all of that because it was in her nature, or if she became more of a Domme.  Do you think she was really a subby at heart?  That she really enjoyed all the cleaning, and cooking, and taking orders? Just a thought. 

But no matter how you look at it, I really think that it was written by kinksters.  Think about it.  The Mistress of the house (the stepmother), and Her "pets" (The step sisters), and of course you had Cinderella.  Not to mention the whole shoe fetish thing.  

Ok, And to clear it up, I really didn't HAVE to be on my knees cleaning today.  We DO have a rug scrubber that would have done the job just as good, twice as fast, with half the work.... ::shrug::  It just felt right.

Though girl would consider reading the continuation if it was anything like, The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy.

A rather creepy story.  It suggests that for a female, marriage is the end and abolition of yourself.  Why else do all the stories end when the she gets married.  Doesn't that strike you as a bit sinister?  Have you ever read a folk tale where the Princess's mother gets to do anything but die young?  I have never been able to figure out if that's supposed to be a warning or an instruction.

Status: offline 		I don't think that changing from cleaning the house herself to being in charge of the housekeepers and maids changes her. She still would be ensuring that the house looked good. But I'm not going to say she was a sub because she didn't choose to do the service. She didn't consent, she was compelled.

I don't view Cinderella as a sub, but as someone who was being abused.

And of course all the mothers are dead in fairy tales. Cinderella's mother wouldn't have made her sleep on the floor next to the kitchen hearth. Snow White's mother wouldn't have tried to kill her, thus having her be found by the dwarves in the woods. If the mothers were living, there would have been no danger for these girls, nothing for them to endure, and no story. Their real mothers would have taken care of them properly.

Cinderella wasn't a sub. As DesFIP said, she didn't consent but was instead compelled. 
 I think after the "happy ending" of marriage, Cindy would have been stuck at home running a large and lonely castle while her "prince" went off hunting or some other nonsense. She would have tried to find her power and happiness by the day to day managing of the home but instead discovered a lovely young stable boy who just so happened to enjoy taking the Mistress for rides! 
She found solace in her daily walks with her ponyboy, who understood her need to offer firm yet loving control to one so willing.  I'm sure she became a very proficient horse rider and when the Prince did decide to appear, he found a very differnt woman than the one he left.  I wonder if he ever wished he hadn't found that darn glass slipper the night of the ball.
 
BTW....has anyone seen my riding crop?

Status: offline 		I cant find the article, but there was a wonderful piece in the guardian here about cinderella on the 2nd december which was about how the story is related to the way women are to each other. How we hold each other back, judge each other and try to steal each others thunder. The marriage was the triumph over women and in the original story cinderella goes on to find husbands for her ugly sisters once securing the 'best' one for herself. According to Adam Phillips men feature so lightly in the story (absent father brief mention of 'the prince') because they dot make as big an impact on womens lives as other women do.

I really do love fairy tales and one of the best interpretation of some, imo, was done by Angela Carter in her book "The Bloody Chamber"  http://www.rambles.net/carter_bloodychamber.html
 
Her story, "The Werewolf" was turned into the campy horror flick "A Company of Wolves" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087075/   which has one of my favorite quotes..." Status: offline 		In the days that Cinderella was written marriage was very rarely anything BUT an abolition of self and a continuance of Male Rule over European females. Sitting here in these days of single parent homes, and the right to vote, it is hard to think of days when a woman did not even have the right to choose her own husband, but that instead it was decided by her father or if he had passed an uncle or brother. Even within the courts a woman's place was decided by her rank, her families placement in favor and she could be married off to a court far away from hearth and home as a part of a treaty or alliance, most especially Princess's. Cinderella and Snow White actually come out ahead, even if all they did was sit and stitch tapestry all day and spawn heirs. At least they got out of the dishes.

Fairy tales are interesting if you look at them. We have:

Cannibalism, abandonment and vandalism Hansel and Gretel
Kidnapping, Murder and Hair Fetish Rapunzel
Breaking and Entering, vandalism and theft Goldilocks and the 3 bears
Abject Poverty, Stupidity, Con Game, Lying and Theft compounded by Murder, Jack and the Bean Stalk
Abandonment, Attempted Homicide, Necrophilia (simulated) Snow White
Coercion, and Trickery, coupled with counterfeiting Rumpelstiltskin 

and so on and so forth...Some taught lessons but most showed how a cunning human could outsmart the Sidhe, the creatures of the woods, paranormals and other forces of the world, or how they could be trapped by them.

Interesting tales we tell our children to make them go to sleep and have pleasant dreams.
