I did not know about all the restrictions so this thread is good information.  Sorry to hear that some people lost time and money on these items.  Most people I know use their gift cards within a couple of weeks of receiving them.  And gift certificates are usually good for an entire year.

I saw them mentioned in another thread, so I will mention this.

They are a ripoff. Most have a monthly non-use charge which amounts to an expiration date. Others have an outright expiration date.

Did your money expire ?

Others have who knows what kind of limitations, not good in this department or not valid for the purchese of......... Or saleprices do not apply, or fuel perks or something. Or coupons will not be accepted with it. Things like that.

Did your money have similar limitations ?

Vend, actually not every place is all that bad, but the question is then, why not just send them money ? If they call and thank you that your gift paid to fix the car, or even to pay up on a mortgage or say electric bill. What is wrong with them enjoying having light in their house ?

Well sometimes cash is just a bad idea lol. My ex pays my phone, hydro, cable and some other junk.  He also gives me gift cards several times/year because well..um he just knows I am bad with cash lol...If I have it on hand, ooo it gone, for junk yanno, like shoes lol or other nonsense.  Then he has to come back to bring me more n more lol. Often was mad was because it seems 'controlling' that he chooses the gift cards thus where and when I make my purchases.  I realized though, he knows the schedule of when 'stuff' I own will break down or already has or what I need on a monthly basis (ie: tech store for gadgets like new phones, new washer/dryer or grocery store certificates etc etc).  I don't get mad anymore, I revolve my life around spending cash on cash stuff and buying gift certificate stuff on necessities that I would neglect if not for the cards.  I don't bite the hand that feeds me LOL.

Trust me, they are much safer than cash to me.

If someone needs cash for necessities that is much more important of course, Term.  I think of gift cards as being a good choice when buying for people who already have everything or who are difficult to buy for or who live out of the area.
