The World Bank has pumped $250 billion in loans into the Dubai. Why?  The main gold and silver trading exchange is soon tipped to move from the COMEX to the local Dubai exchange currently being set up.

/ snip

I guess we shouldnt be shocked. No extradition laws, banking is secret...   it makes on wonder.  and yet- the rich always will need its servants.  tho- maybe they live here, but stay somewhere else?

perplexing that some with oodles of wealth would be worried to this extent

For several years my daughter has been harping that Dubai is being set up as a refuge/haven for the criminals who are wealthy; not just American politicians, but Yugoslavia's criminals, Chinese criminals; Pakistani criminals etc.  I believe Cheney has already gone there.

It is strange that anybody would feel safe in a middleast country.   Dont they cut off ones hand for steeling?

There are only a few places with no extradition.   The other is in Latin America.

It is certainly logical super-rich are panicking and looking for safe place to store their assets. They may be fools though: Dubai could well be an another illusion. Do they relly want to live there? Who cares; lot of this lost wealth was just a number on paper or in compter file and never really existed.

I had not thought about it that way but yes the middle east countries  would  seem to be the last place a thief would want to go.  However, it may show how much "justice" is really for sale there.  I cannot see the governor of Illinois having his hands cut off for theft.  It seems to be the age old question of how much forgiveness can you afford.  The "I have sinned" speech.
