Sandor6 -> Frustration of Unread Mail (12/10/2008 11:44:32 AM)

I am a new member within the past month. Is there another way to get into a candidate's mailbox? My problem is when others do not sign on for extended periods and hence do not receive my messages to them. Short of asking friends in the area to help...is there anything else I can do?

Send your mail.  If they don't answer it, shrug your shoulders and move on.

Under no circumstances "ask friends to help".  Hassling people to read your mail is bad.  The stench of desperation is not an appealing cologne.

And make sure that you aren't messaging people who specifically say on their profiles that you fall into a category that doesn't interest them.

indeed....am tired of those and most of the time don't bother to reply to them...just take it easy, write to the ones you want and see how it goes...good luck [:)] and welcome on here [:D]

Try using the search function.  You can set it to display users by the last log-in date.  If someone hasn't logged in for over a month, don't bother sending mail.  Also, make sure you READ the profile and you match what the other person is looking for.  If you don't, they will probably have set their mail controls to dump your message in the bulk folder where it will sit until they decide to delete it unread.

Do not ask a third party to make contact.  Talk about annoying!

Quit trying to be a control freak and let things take their natural course.

I am sure that you dont harass people on the streets or in bars when they dont wanna talk to you, so dont do it here.  Its that simple.

If you are looking at them as a candidate right off the bat, you are surely going to be disappointed.  Until you know them a bit, a profile isn't going to prove them in the running for more of anything.  I really have a distaste for someone reading my profile or not and thinking and saying we are a perfect match.  Red flag... run!

The suggestions of doing a search by log in date is a good one.  But keep in mind, people still might not read or respond to your email.  Pay attention to how you are presenting yourself and sooner or later, you will find someone who pays attention.

Keep in mind an ever-growing proportion of users on this site are sock puppets, marketing gimmicks or transient users, in the least. Pay attention to those who are at least somewhat regularly active, and you'll probably have a marginal level of success in communication. The internet is a wasteland of mirages with an occasional gem found between them once in a while.
