But that's the thing... its just so sensible and practical.  Instead of more labels, acronyms, etc... people need to learn to listen to each other, learn to hear what the other person is trying to say... even if they aren't saying it very well.  Would help avoid a lot of misunderstandings.

I agree!

*g*  While I totally appreciate the vote and he is now worried that I will have an over-inflated ego, I do have to say that I first heard John Warren use that question and I think it is a great way to understand how other people are using terms.

Knight's Kyra

I agree with Pad, LaT and the rest who said you had the best answer.

As far as Knight being concerned that you may have an over inflated ego...can you ask him to come define an inflated ego for me?

MstrPBK----
I, like you, am generally a stickler for correct usage.  In the event of the terms you noted, I would consider each/all to be an appropriate usage.

Edging is an unnecessary term that has no clear relationship to anything and serves no linguistic purpose and I reject it.

We got edge play, we got teasing, and we got knife play, they all do those jobs just fine on their own.

It used to be said that human's now have about a 3 second attention span (re: TV, commercials, etc.).  I think in our quest for more, faster, better, we as a society have begun to speak in short-hand, condensing communication to as few words (or these days, letters) as possible.  It's no wonder there are so many communication issues and misunderstandings abound.

Just keeping inflating my ego hotstuff... and we will see just how far it will reach  ;)

editted to add:

PS... You do remember that it reached to Florida... isn't Nashville between here and there *EG*

DomDG -> RE: Multipul terminology: What do we do ... (12/11/2008 8:57:11 PM)

I think just like the rest of language we will forever have synonyms and antonyms.  To me these words are no different than "there and their"  "hour and our" etc.  We just have to clarify, and make sure our we understand the context.
