At least, you can credit Obama with having inspired righteous moral indignation in you [:)] .

servantforuse -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 5:53:09 AM)

Obama moving to the right is a dream come true for  republicans. Keeping Bill Gates and staying in Irac will also anger those on the left. There will be 'no change'...

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 6:08:18 AM)

Yes there was a majority but....... don't make it pull out all the pork projects that were proposed by Democrats as well. As long as people give a free pass to those that have responsibility, they will continue to create partisan politics that causes many of the problems we have. Republicans have added more in pork than Dems, but not by a huge amount. Try accepting and applying accountability.

So it is all on Bush? The House and Senate are absolved of all responsibility in spending?

Pretty much yes.

Congress is not absolved, but for the majority of his two terms he had a Republican majority which went along with the whatever the leader of their party wanted.

Will those that cried foul at Obama's 'socialistic' tendencies recant, I wonder?

servantforuse -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 6:18:50 AM)

He is still a socialist. It will just take him a little longer than planned to get there..

kittinSol -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 6:52:02 AM)

Phew, you had me worried there [:D] .

SilverMark -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 7:08:09 AM)

I can see your enlightened view of anything aside from your way of thinking hasn't changed since last I saw you on the boards there jim. Of course if memory serves me(and it rarely fails....yet) you were telling us all how Obama was not an American citizen etc. etc. so I will take your views here as I did then. Thanks for playing and here are some lovely parting gifts.....Perhaps some substance next time?

And you, CelticLord2112, have written the new Book of Revelations that will tell Your people the Truth [8|] .

Doesn't take a bible.  A scratchpad, pencil, and the ability to do basic math is all that is needed.

Of course, a working familiarity with structure and workings of American government (something every citizen should know, btw) definitely helps.

Time to get to work then: looks like much of your fellow citizenry could benefit from your wisdom.

Past time, actually.  I am doing all that I see to do, and when I see more to do, I do that as well.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 7:37:45 AM)

Very true statement. Example would be determining to use military might or not. If we are already deficit spending, then engaging in a large military action would require either 1) Cutting other projects or 2) Not using the military unless there was a direct threat to the nations security.

I believe Obama will be able to bring the budget under better control, but he will need to engage the Dems and Reps to do that. Each party has their pet projects, and the President and Congress must take a shared responsibility and accountability for doing this.

The unfortunate part is the partisan cheerleading that occurs. Someone will defend a politician just because of the party they are a member of. Wrong is wrong, and it should not matter which party. This is where I see a large problem with many of my fellow citizens; blind cheerleading.

Given the current world situation with finance, it does not matter who is in charge, as no one is perfect, nor super human. How to get out of this mess, or even ease it's impact on the nobodies is going to take time and effort and yes a few more mistakes before we learn the correct method of approach.

This of course will not be the ideal situation to all, but what I think has to be done, is to arrive at a compromise between all the interested parties, not concentrating on one group and abandoning another.

After all, is not the role of government to achieve and maintain balance ?

Well, there is the fact that Bush wasn't exactly economically conservative either, and signed in some pretty damned socialist stuff.  I didn't vote for McCain for the same reason, he was pretty economically liberal too.

It's certainly a good thing if Obama doesn't push through what looked to be an incredibly socialist agenda, but it still doesn't change that both parties have been far too left economically for some time now.

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed about that Bill Gates thing.

I even heard he was planning to keep Steve Jobs.

Dnomyar -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 10:14:12 AM)

Obama does not even take office for another month yet. Yet some on here are talking like he has already fucked up everything.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Promises Promises: Obama budget cuts face hurdles (12/9/2008 10:59:28 AM)

Actually it does matter who is in charge, and I cannot understand why you would say that.

I agree about compromise, but let us see how compromising the Big 3 execs, the UAW and the UAW retirees are. Each will likely just be looking at their interest, and other interest be damned. We have already heard from someone that has family members that are retired UAW and they do not want to see a 10% reduction in benefits to help in this compromise. The execs do not want to see their bonuses touched, and the UAW still wants benefit packages that are way beyond foreign competitors.

Each will have to give, because the option is the Big 3 go under and everyone loses.

Which shows they are not very objective. While I question some of his cabinet selections, and a few of his comments, I will wait to make a judgement.

YahooNews had an article yesterday about how the Obama administration is moving decidedly to the right with it's cabinet appointments and how the left is begging to become wary.
They said; "Look at the new boss, looks like the old boss."
The stock market and also Jim Cramer on "Mad Money" surely do like P.E. Obama so far!
His infrastructure plans will put a lot of people and companies to work!
They were saying on CNBC last night to buy stock in cos that make steel, cement, asphalt, tractors, trucks, construction materials, anything in those areas and more as they'll be working overtime come next year.
