In these times of economic uncertainty, does anyone have any suggestions regarding low budget BDSM? For example, using rope from the dollar store instead of custom-made restraints. I'm interested in money-saving tips!!
Thanks!

Research pervertables, I have done a couple of demos on the subject, lots of information out there, look for the Frugal Domme site as well.

Where do I start?  Wooden spoons, hairbrushes, and clothespins are just the beginning.   Pervertables from the dollar store or go to the fish and tackle department of any Wal-Mart/K-Mart.  Learning to make your own is relatively cheap, though I don't have the knack for it.  You can save a ton of money on wax play just by purchasing the right types of candles.  Fireplay and cupping can be done with things you probably already have at home.  The list is just about endless.

I have to laugh about the rope ( just remember some kinds cause burns so be mindful)--the road we take to see the horses has an intersection where people congregate to sell stuff, this guy there has all this silk rope---all colors all sizes---we need some for driving training reins--he sells it for like .10  foot--as I bought way more than I needed for the horses <wink>, silk rope is sexy.

Wooden spoons, silicone spatula's, OHHH and those little whippy fish bait things, ow ow sting sting--lol ( can get those for a buck a piece), bungy cords make great bondage things--- those pastry roller things. And always look at sale bins like at Tractor Supply, Lowes or even the Dollar store. Happy hunting!

I,personally, have a large bag of toys that I either purchased on the cheap, or, in several cases, made myself with htings I found lying around my house. My main whip was a toy one from a costume shop that I covered in electrical tape, so the shitty leather wouldn't come apart. My main cane? Cut, shaped, and sanded it myself from wood I cut near the house. A flogger made with cheap leather lace and electrical tape (electrical tape is an awesome material). Rope comes in 100 foot lengths for 10 dollars at wally world, and makes handcuffs and the like unnecessary. Using rope, insteda of specialized restraints will save you tons. If you don't know any ties, twistedmonk.com can give you the basics. A little imagination is all that's really required. And remember the difference between Toy and Adult Toy: Location, Location, Location.

gapeach4 -> RE: Low Budget BDSM (12/8/2008 12:31:15 PM)

paint stirring sticks... those looong shoe horns.. venitian blinds twist rods...the only limit is your imagination...ping pong paddles, or those ball-on-a-string paddles...and that's just for paddlings!! :)

fingers work extremely well for pinching nips!! but, if fingers are needed for something else, clothespins are fabulous!

just go in the Dollar Store and stroll slowly down the aisles and let your mind wander :)

Perhaps I could send you our previous Prime Minister "Jackboot" Johnny Howard (Australia's answer to St George (W. Bush) and very ex Treasurer or if you prefer another Ex Prime Minister who gave us "The recession we had to have" and who now is a commercial pig farmer amongst other things.... Come one good folk in the US of A this poor starving Aussie Master is just trying to off load some of our usless items for a cheep price in order to pay for my kink and lifestyle.........

I love the dollar store!  I love those cheap ace bandanges for blindfolds... and the process of going round and round and the long wait for him.  I found my best spanking/whacking spatchula there... it really did the job!  Then the doggie bowls and the clothes pins and rope and hooks... Oh yes, the dollar store is a great find for those lil items that add interest without breaking the budget.

Then belting material that you can put eyelett's in and make all sorts of bondage, hog tying and collars with for under thirty dollars...  Add locks... the clicking... oh!

Hmmm. In my experience just plain and simple rope is more effective than custom made restraints so no arguments there. We also bought a really really cheap fly swatter and a wooden cooking spatula for fun times. I actually found these every day cheap items to be more fun and effective...... and extra naughty to go out to the next supermarket and testing various cooking utensils while other shoppers have no idea what I have in mind to do with them :P

Morniel -> RE: Low Budget BDSM (12/8/2008 2:22:07 PM)

At our house we're not into rope; knots and tying and all that take too much time away from better things.  Therefore, we went to the local "dollar store" and got a bunch of "pet collars" ranging in size and width from little enough to go round my wrists, to big enough to go round my thighs.  Collars that can't be smallified can be easily taken apart, cut down, and re-stitched.

We're also not into a lot of impact play, but we do use large wooden spoons and paint-stir-sticks, sanded and very lightly spray-varnished to seal the wood for safety's sake.

We are very into constriction, so we took a bunch of wooden clothes-pegs, dissassembled them, relaxed the springs by "crunching" them a bit with pliers, and then painted the wooden parts before we re-assembled them.  A couple of them also have carefully-drilled holes in the shafts, so that inexpensive ribbon or leather lacing can be threaded through to make "zippers".

We're also into insertables; there is oven-bake clay that's perfect for modelling one's own insertables.  Once it's baked and sanded lightly, it can be coated with liquid plastic or latex -- which inexpensive, and if nothing else can be found as "tool dip" in the hardware section of any mega-store.  Another favourite insertable we have is a common kitchen whisk.  We discovered that the rather flexible silicon ones don't work very well; they tend to collapse inside a girl who has tight muscles, if you know what I mean.  So, we bought the two-for-a-buck set of old fashioned stainless steel ones, and they work just great, with the added bonus that they can be washed with iodine solution or even in the dishwasher to keep them sanitary.

We're not into wax or fireplay, but scented candles definitely add to romance, so again, the local dollar store is a good place to look.  Ours also happened to have low-temp candles, and a tiny "personal potpourri" pot, which we plan to use as a wax-melt, if he can ever convince me to overcome my complete terror of that sort of thing.  (Working in an emergency facility, and then on a burn unit, pretty much messed my little head up, and no, thanks, I don't want advice or counselling about it.)

Other nifty little bondage things include coloured scarves, which can be used as blindfolds or gags.  Once a blindfold is in place, though, you have access to two of the most inexpensive yet erotic toys there are -- Your voice, and your touch!

Hope this gave you some ideas.

I've got some kitty collars, too - with the bells still intact.
I also got a bunch of leather belts that are made of woven strips of leather so that you can fasten them at any point along their length.
Those came from a thrift store.
They're sometimes handy.
The dollar store is great for buying tights (they're like pantyhose but without the panty part...) that can later be cut up or otherwise modified.
I made a dildo harness out of an innertube once. Have to wash the inner tube well, inside and out.
Also cut holes in an old bench so that dildos could come up through it, being fastened from beneath.
Made a spreader bar out of a broomstick with a couple of eye screws at the ends.
There's lots of fun little things you can do without too much investment (other than a bit of time, perhaps.)

brilliantly funny IB. As Always...

The  only thing I can help you with is just take your mr/s's with you, and keep in the back of your mind them doing the things you cant imagine (yeah kinda esoteric, but trust me) and walk down the aisles of ANY kind of store. Having them get you all horney and HoT before hand helps tremendously here. Use your imagination.

If imagine is lacking try,

RCA cables with one of the ends cut off. then split remaining cable a few inches at a time till you find a length that works.

The venition blinds rod is ALWAYS a winner.

Back scratchers sans attacthments...

Water bottle insertions...

Seriously.

The possibilities are endless. Every one here and elswhere has created an impromptu "toy" of some kind of another. The only thing to really focus on, is the enjoyment of the time with eachother. As long as that is happening, no-one involved cares what toools are being used.

HerLord -> RE: Low Budget BDSM (12/8/2008 7:43:32 PM)

revisited to add **

CHAINS!

The cost of varying types of chains ranges form .32-2.11 per foot at my local man-store. For about $13 I bought a HEAVTY weighted 10 foot chain and a few dollars more for some snaps and connectors. With a minimal upfront cost and a continual willingness to drop a couple dollars here and there, My Love and I have a NEVER ending supply of variations and good times. ALWAYS pay attention to who is having a good time and how it happenened. Doing this allows the recollection of the past for the application of the present.

One more thing...

Using the search feature provided by the good people of CM, You might also try looking up previous posts of such inquiries.

You are NOT the first to ask this question.

IronBear -> RE: Low Budget BDSM (12/8/2008 9:43:28 PM)

Ok lets serious now I've flogged off a couple of usless bodies to our friends accross the duck pond.

Years ago when I was running a very Large Coven and had close ties with several daughter covens in Perth WA, We would bulk purchase at wholesale prices such things as candles and bolts of suitable cloth which was then passed on to those needing items and the wholesale price each or per meter. These days I use my ABN (Australian Business Number) when buying as a business and pay either special bulk prices or wholesale. This includes rope, materials to make stuff like floggers (for sale) candles etc. For many other items I regularly visit flea markets, opp shops, junk shops, recycling locations, garage sales and check what people leave out for the local council to collect. Hardware, if y6u have some skills can be found on wrecked vehicles for parts not usually sold in normal trade..

Just a thought, if you have the skills to make things like floggers, belts, leather or iron restraints and candles etc, why not make some and advertise them with your local group or at a flea market. take out your expenses and use the profit towards affording your next kink outing or that piece of gear you have been lusting after.. No damage done to your home budget then and you can have fun as well as meeting new people who just may be what you are also seeking once the ice is broken.

Saran wrap and duct tape from the dollar store or odd lots. Very cheap but lots of fun!
