Termyn8or -> Good outsourcing jobs idea ! (12/6/2008 11:10:15 PM)

It hit me a few minutes ago, the solution to this mess.

Instead of outsourcing labor, outsource management. Fire all these stuffed suits who probably couldn't run a tavern. Bring in Japanese, Chinese, German indusrialists.

I have mentioned this before, but it belongs here. I read an article by a financial analyst many years ago, when the Japanese cars were coming into popularity. Yes it was a while ago.

He stated that American car manufacturers used cost driven pricing while Japanese car manufacturers used price driven costing.

That means when GM designed a car, all the costs were added up and the MSRP was set. Meantime, the Japanese would tell the staff the target price of a car and were charged with the duty of meeting that price.

They won.

Then all we would need is people to run the big banks etc. and we would be all set. With the mess we're in, Milburn Drysdale* would probably be a better choice.

So whaddya think ?

*Milburn Drysdale was a fictional character in a sitcom in the US - The Beverly Hillbillies. He was a greedy and materialistic bank president to the point of being funny. I mention it because this is an international forum and some may not know the reference, but if you can get ahold of the first six episodes, watch them, they are just about the funniest thing on the planet.

The Japanese were very people focused, too - development, empowering staff, secondments, treating staff as valuable assets rather than expenses - the Japanese excelled in this area in the 1980s.

The most efficient car plant in Europe, is based in the North East of England. It's owned by the Japanese, and was managed by the Japanese until recently (I believe).

I was going to say outsource government but we may have already done that.

Easy.  Just oppose the freaking bailouts.

The Big Three have mismanaged their business so much that they're almost bankrupt.  Their solution is to demand a handout from us, I mean the government.

If they DON'T get it, then they will have capital equipment and a workforce up for sale, with a market in place, and foreign companies in a position to buy.  If they do, they'll fire the management, keep the labor and equipment, pay the vendors, and make cars.  In effect, management gets outsourced.

Unless of course our idiot government bails them out.

In my opinion, those who expect the US car factories to be snapped up and for the buyers to start producing cars are dreaming. The factories will sit idle and the workers will be out of work, the Japanese, etc. are not going to just step in...they have no incentive to do so, far cheaper to produce the cars in China and ship them stateside.

Which they seem determined to do.

Yet another reason for a tax holiday....keep the money away from government's grubby paws so they won't flush it down the toilet.

I would prefer to shut down the government and let small businesses figure things out themselves.

Small business may decide it needs a manufacturing plant next to your house.

Can they retire back to their own country and take all their spending power with them?

Cool!  Then I can rent the land to them and make some coin on the side, as well as bidding on their network and data center requirements.

Sure that's fine if you own your neighbours land.[8|]
