Savage Faerie, what's CRS?
I may be able to use that as a built-in excuse.
"Sorry I couldn't help you move, I forgot, I have CRS."
"It's so bad that yesterday,...I forgot I had CRS!"

Be careful with those muscle relaxers long term. One of your most important muscles are those in the heart. I read a Mayo clinic study that had stats on reduction in life expectancy for those on muscle relaxers long term, but do not remember the numbers. The Dr that finally helped me get relief and avoid surgery, was very concerned for how long I had been on muscle relaxers and on vicodin (addicted because I had been on them so long).

If it is lower back, such as mine is, you can stand and slowly rotate your pelvis as if you were doing a hula dance in very slow motion. The other is one I learned in Tai Chi, where you roll your spine from bottom to top and back, as if it is a snake (forward to back).

I have fibro as well and last night, I had back spasms from sitting improperly at this computer.  I took a Soma and almost fell asleep while IMing Sir (I will be teased later, I know....lol).

I also have heel spurs and having the balls of my feet on a stair and stretching up and down that way helps out with my calfs and back as well.

One more exercise for the back...lay flat on your back and curl up in a fetal position gently .  That stretches the back muscles even more.

I am nervous about trying things like that because I'm like ... Oh god, not another spasm. LOL

I am trying though. No spasms yesterday so woohoo! I just feel really weak, like I can barely support myself. Geez.

Go see the chiropractor for the back spasms. He may also sell a yoga band, one brand name is Theraband. It's a length of stretchy material. Easier to work with than a towel. In the meantime try pantyhose for the exercises. Keep the stretchy thing next to the bed. Do at bedtime and before getting up in the morning and during the night if you wake up feeling bad. Along with lifting the foot, alternating pointing the toes toward you and then back again, also pull the leg side to side. Go as far as you can without it being painful. Keep doing it.

And once the spasms stop you still want to do this to keep the hamstrings stretched. You also want to stand on a step and drop your heels down. Five minutes twice a day while lying in bed is more than enough to prevent a recurrence.

I wholeheartedly support this. Great advice. The OP should follow it. Perfect recipe for spasms-be-gone. If you can find a good chiropractor, you will be feeling much better in no time.

I have recently become a big fan of chiropractic.  I've always been skeptical because you hear those "quack" stories about keeping you coming back for years to be cracked and popped....

We had a health fair at work, and there was one there giving the "free exams" that I considered bogus, but I had been having a lot of neck and shoulder pain that I attributed to constant computer use at work.  Turns out I have a few more serious problems with my neck due to degenerating discs and narrowing of the spaces between vertebrae, blah blah blah.  After one treatment, I woke up the next day feeling remarkably improved, not all stiff and sore like every other day.  And I can now look all the way over my right shoulder when driving, unlike a month ago.

It feels like he's snapping my neck bones when he does the manipulations, but I'm getting to like it, lol.

There are gentler methods of chiropractic other than "manual" joint manipulation, but I get a rush when she cranks my head and my neck explodes, lol. Wow do I feel like a million bucks afterwards.

Years ago when I lived in the Bay Area I had an awesome chiropractor. I had a pinched nerve in my neck and could hardly get out of bed - the pain was brutal. He made me all better.

There are crappy chiropractors which contribute to their bad name. And for the most part, the general medical community scoffs at chiro care, too. I figure it's because it takes money away from them. :)

i have fibro and back spasms, so i feel for you!  for me, heat helps some.  if i can get into a hot shower, and stretch very gently and carefully, the heat can help with the tight muscle.  a heated rice bag can keep the heat going for a while too.

i tend to spasm when i am cold, or when i move too fast.  slowing down till the muscles warm up is always a good idea (i keep in mind that warm taffy can stretch for miles, cold taffy snaps) and the tai chi exercises sound like a good thing too.

good luck with this!
