LadyEllen -> tiny minded Tories (12/4/2008 5:16:19 AM)

As some will know (because I might just have mentioned it from time to time), I recently bought an S Type Jaguar car (its f'in awesome!) second hand. Although nearly ten years old, it retains its classy appearance and all in all looks totally out of place where I live.

This factor was my only concern with the car; given that anyone here who appears to have anything better than anyone else will have it stolen, smashed or torched, I planned to park it round the back of my property down a narrow alley which also leads to the doors for the apartments opposite. However, for them it is a pedestrian only access, whilst for me its a vehicle access as per legal documents for the property.

The problem was, my neighbours would have to remove their wheely bins and recycling boxes from the alley for me to get the beast round the back. There is nowhere else for them to put these items where they can easily access them so its always been the case that we've had an agreement they can remain in the alley. When the Jag arrived I asked if they could move them somewhere else so I could get in and out - they proposed a far better solution.

Since they also have a parking space at the rear of their property which they dont use, a space protected by locking gates, they suggested we leave our bins where they were and I use their space. Great, Much easier for everyone and more secure for my monster- although one tenant from the other side of the building complained to the landlord, there wasnt much to be done since its the tenants' space to use.

But, my neighbours moved out last week. Since then I have been told to move the car. So last night I threw all the bins and recycling boxes for the neighbouring apartments into the street (there being nowhere else) and parked the car on my property.

Now the parking lot at the rear of the neighbouring building is large - there is more than enough space for all the tenants' vehicles and about ten more. So we know that space isnt the problem; my Jag is not hindering anyone in parking there.

The problem as I see it is;
Firstly, the landlord of the neighbouring property is a tory and knows I am a lib dem.
Secondly, the tenant on the other side is a tory too and is pig sick jealous of my car.
Thirdly, the "likes of me" shouldnt have a Jaguar in their tory opinion. After all, I'm one of the peasantry - I should be lucky to have a Lada.

Now I am awaiting the knock to ask why the bins are not in the alley but on the street. Then we will see whether a new accomodation cant be reached.

Ahhhh....hmmmmm...what's a tory?

LadyEllen -> RE: tiny minded Tories (12/4/2008 5:35:51 AM)

A Conservative - our centre right party; theyre trying to make themselves "men of the people" but in reality they are the party of the wealthy, the aristos, the xenophobes and assorted peasants who have done well in life. Their motto could be "born to rule".

It is a major struggle for me at election times not to punch them firmly in their stuck up noses!

So they are just like our conserative party, preach they are for all the people, but act only for the wealthy.

Very roughly, a tory is the equivalent of a rep in America.

LadyEllen -> RE: tiny minded Tories (12/4/2008 6:02:44 AM)

what annoys me about this, is that we peasants have organised something which works well for all of us

but the masters not getting a cut out of it or having had a say in it, are preventing it

and the result is that we peasants are all inconvenienced and the masters get nothing but their peasants complaining

sure sounds like an excellent way to run a country if such is their mindset

Well, from a purely historic perspective, in the US Tories were English loyalists, who strangely enough also seemed to have connections to the rich and high muckety mucks of the British society.

Now as to your problem, (please note the typical american sarcasm) I would tend to agree that a person of your position should not own or have access to such a vehicle,(end sarcasm)  in fact you should be driving a Bentley, Maserati, Lola, or Porsche.  Anything with 2 doors, uber horsepower, high top end speed, and a bumper sticker that reads....

"I bought this car, I will drive this car, and if you dont like it, GOOD, I do not exist to please YOU" with a picture of you making whatever gesture with your fingers that is the equivalent to our 'shooting the bird.'

A snapshot of England.
I love it here.
This has the makings of a tv show.

Get your local spray can artist to do the 'beast' up as Boudicca's chariot and call Louis Theroux.
You should have enough elements to not only get him interested, but possibly a fee for a helipad too.
The only thing holding you back is this damned Lib Dem mainstream nonsense.

I have to smile at the line about peasants who have done well. Since you have got a jag and all that. [8D]

MadAxeman -> RE: tiny minded Tories (12/4/2008 10:09:33 AM)

Yeah, but it's only an S-Type and ten years old too.

Spotted, son.  Shouldn't that be a Citroen Deux Chevaux?  Although Lady E claims to be a LibDem and attends all the meetings, scratch the surface and you'll find a true-blue Tory lurking within.  Drinks "rind" et the Rugby club anyone? [:D]

Politesub53 -> RE: tiny minded Tories (12/4/2008 10:43:02 AM)

Ive not seen the inside of a jag since the old bill used to use them. [8D]

RL, for a leftie you seem to have a fine working knowledge of rugby club etiquette. !

RealityLicks -> RE: tiny minded Tories (12/4/2008 10:51:17 AM)

Well, you go with the flow and you never know where you'll fetch up!  Just remember to take your leave about the time they start offering lines of "cake" and you're golden.

Aneirin -> RE: tiny minded Tories (12/4/2008 11:08:38 AM)

The jealousy over cars does not only exist for ''upper crust'' type cars, but people's cars too, as in the case of VW, I had a  1977 VW camper and that thing got systematically destroyed over the space of a few years. First deep scratches, then all the trim nicked, chrome wheel caps and spare wheel cover, then dents in every panel, then foot prints in the roof, the elevating roof vents kicked off, tyres slashed, louvred windows pryed etc. several days I went down to find someone had been inside as the door had been jemmied and all the lockers were open. Totally horrible to see the systematic destruction, a depressing sight, but I kept it ten years then finally sold it for £5000, £2500 more than I paid for it.

Oh they never got into that engine bay, my chrome was safe.

Who was damaging the thing, well it seemed all and sundry, everyone from sub fifteen year old ums, (untouchables) to people walking back from the pub at night. Their politics, who knows, but suspicion lies in a certain direction given the crummy council estate we lived on.

The bottom line it seems here is if you have anything that is nice looking, it is fair game for destroying.

You know the saying "blue and green should never be seen"

Beware of car jealousy. My parents are in their late 70's and as my Master and I run a Jaguar specialist we persuaded him to buy a new X - Type. They live in a retirement complex and when they picked the car up last September their neighbour kept telling them that they were jealous of his VW Polo thing that he had just bought. He said because they could not afford a new car they were jealous of his.

One day when they were all in the communal laundry together he started on about it again so my mother told him to not be stupid and they were not interested in his car. So he launched into an attack on her which my father tried to stop. Dad ended up with a broken toe, nose and check bone. And they are all in their 70s!!!
