Status: offline 		Hasn't this always been the case? Throughout history the girl picks the strongest provider or gets picked by the strongest provider. If he can't provide what they want they move on. That's just life - it sucks but it is real. And in todays world money is the measure of being able to provide. If you establish a lifestyle and it disapears then expect to end up in divorce court. My advice - don't go high maintenence. Have lots of money but don't flash it. Read The Millionaire Next Door - they don't flash their money or spend it on stupid things like private educations, luxury homes, and servants. They also select their wives well because she makes a major difference in their wealth.

MHO is there is a lot more to think about than your brief comments. Rarely does consideration of only one aspect of a multi dimensional issue lead to truth.

But if its easier for you to use men as the stack pole, and make them completely responsible, thereby giving all power and determination to them, then more power to you. Though that reallys means less.

Mistress Lotus ,surely you are not suggesting that men hold a monopoly on these less than stellar characteristics.I assure you there are quite a few of your sisters choosing mates for equally shallow reasons.The very trophy wives/girlfriends you cite would qualify.

Just keeping within the topic.  When a guy is striking out with the female of his interest.. what does he do?  He starts listing his assets.  He gives her no other reason for being with him.  It's up to the woman to evaluate if she is going to be "bought" or not.  It's easier/quicker for a guy to buy what he wants than to develope any other desirable characteristic and likewise.. its easier for the woman to line her pockets with his offer than to put up with a looser of lesser assets.  Just watch the news to see them.  There's a guy out there with a lot of real estate and bad hair as case in point. 

The saying of  "it's just as easy to love a rich man as a poor one" is coupled then with the warning.. "if you marry for money you will have to earn every penny".   I married for love, obviously :)

Status: offline 		It's another example of the depressing state of humanity. I've heard in the news of men kill themselves for fear of losing their family over the crisis and those few that would kill their family rather than let them walk away. People lie to themselves sometimes that the person they are with loves them when they probably know full well they don't. For everyone of these stories there are thousands of stories where a family will stick together through the gloom, but for some reason we like only to highlight extreme cases, why?
 
I just find this article really depressing because I'm a romantic and like to foolishly think people get together for the right reasons.

The evil gold digger deserves the man that would easily give up his wife of many years for a new version. There is no need to put a sex to it because shallow people come in all shapes. This article seemed to only focus on evil women and made no real mention as to if these women were the men's first wives or not.

Status: offline 		Unfortunately yes, some men will resort to desperate means in this type of situation.  A couple of my male cousins committed suicide when their marriages were failing.  In one case it was specifically because his wife had driven them into debt and he was going to loose everything.

Some people are always asking what they can get from something rather than what they can give, we were brought up to look out for ourselves, which is good but some have taken it to extremes. This is an unsustainable situation of being on the take and is endemic in modern society and probably why we as a collective have more debts than assets. It needs a rebalancing of values and this is what the future will bring there is no alternative it will happen and like all games of the board game Monopoly the winners need the losers to play to keep winning and the losers will just say no, shove your game. I can put it no better way. 
 
I could be wrong I’ve been wrong many times, but I tend to know that all systems in the universe find a natural balance one way or another. I didn’t really mention evil much in my original post because evil is subjective and only a few things we can all agree together are evil. As for my mirror I only have internal reasons for dating people and whether these reasons are right or wrong is also down to my individual perception. Who is to say what a wrong reason for dating someone is, other than the person making the choice? I only said some people know they are making the wrong choices but still do it. I know they are making the wrong choices for themselves only because they say so after the fact, I don’t read people’s minds or judge their choices before the failure they have admitted to.

Sorry for your loss Vendaval. It's tragic I know it happens, it probably happens a lot more than gets reported. The real tragedy is people are worth more than money. I'm not naive, I know we need some kind of financial system to get things done otherwise we would not work but the one thing I hate more than anything else about money is how people without it get treated by society or the fact it is held over us as a threat in terms of our future security. This is why some people go for rich people because they want future security and there is nothing wrong with that but to intentionally move in and take that financial security from someone that has worked for it, can we all agree that is evil and parasitic? Mind you having said that, there is financial security and there is Paul McCartney and he has plenty of money for future security.

Maybe they are professional wives and offer a wife service?
 
I suppose this what I'm bleating on about here is the balance between socialism and capitalism. I can't live in a society which is exclusively one or the other.

Status: offline 		Trophy spouse = (perceived) high regard with peers due to power and money able to attract said trophy spouse.

Where does love enter this picture?  I would think that most people with a trophy anything that are half-way in connection to reality, would acknowledge that some, if not most of their appeal is their pocketbook.

I really don't think most people would be surprised with a pending divorce due to plummeting available cash.

I'm lucky because I work in the construction industry and there are office buildings in London that I have been a part of creating, they may be empty,  it's somebody else job to fill them. Knowing I have been part of something bigger than myself and that things I've worked on will be around for at least 30 years or beyond my death if listed, is highly satisfying. I'm not well paid and just a cog in the system that could be replaced with an equally able cog but that’s not the point or why I do it.
 
Invent/discover something
Change the way people think
or have descendents so that your descendents might do one of the other two things above one day.
 
I'm an agnostic that tends to think this above is all we know for sure can make any kind of difference in life.
