Orwell's 1984 is to Russia what Huxley's Brave New World is to America.

The movie with John Hurt as Winston (and that cute, hot little Suzanna Hamilton as Julia) is also great.

...however, the early BBC tv drama of 1984 with Peter Cushing is even better. Very hard to get hold of though.......

Thank you for posting that.

I was going to mention the production.

The final clip.  Fuck`n killer.

If the production values had been better, the newer version would have had much less merit.

Parallels?

The basic ideas of perpetual war(and perpetual war powers),vicious propaganda that turns logic on it`s head (calling the war dept. the "Ministry Of Peace") instilling fear in citizens,de-humanize the "enemy" to make illegal war on "them" easier, and the use of torture.

The last 7 years looks very much like Orwell`s hellish vision. It`s spooky how many parallels there are.

Damn, luci, librarians ( and libraries ) have always made me hot...

And for good reason, I'm sure.  If a great mind makes you hot, where else to find better ones?
