I just noticed (yes I'm slow) that anyone can go on the website and randomly look up people... is there a button to click that says only members that a profile can view me?
That kinda makes me uncomfortable... And I'm considering removing my profile

Yeah, this isn't Facebook, it's a dating website.  Everybody can see everything about you that you added to your profile, and there's no way to stop it.  You can block specific people, but that's not what you're asking and won't help you.

Only put the information on your profile that you want available to other visitors.  As far as their being members or not, since all one needs is an anonymous email account, in order to create a profile, I'm not sure that a person's being a member provides much exclusivity.

You need so little to create an account here there really is no point of member only. You can hide the profile full stop, just use it to post on the forums.

If it really is an issue, make a profile with no specific details or photos, then give out that stuff when you have gotten to know people better. Just having a photo of your back, or something, just to prove you are human. Than give out pics when you trust.

As a general rule, if you don't want people to see something, don't put it on the internet. Do you know how easy it is to get onto people's facebook/myspace profiles regardless of whether or not they're set to private? Just don't post personal shit and you'll be fine :)

So remove any info you don't want known. If you live in a small town, just list your state, or say you're in the nearest big city. Remove identifiable pics.

And remember that just because you put something up to be seen by just your friends doesn't mean it will stay like that. Somebody will copy it, spread it around and search engines will find it thus allowing employers to decide they don't want you.

You can block people, but from what I understand of things and have been told, you cannot stop them from seeing your profile or journal.  You can only block them from contacting you.

At least with them making random profile, you can at least see who viewed your profile... just gives me the shivers otherwise...
Sorry I don't get the irony part owner.

And as for pictures... photoshop!

The irony is commenting about privacy, while posting a pic and profile on an internet site.

Just me,I guess, but it would be more private if you didn`t have a profile at all.My..

It's awesome right? It's like people who have face pictures posted and demand discretion.

yep, privacy doesnt work much online. Recently I found a previous manager from me on an other version of dating page, where they somehow describe themselves as animals...she was quite a bully and it was quite amusing to see her on there describing her as a certain animal...so...privacy can be an issue for some people. Her I discovered coincidentially, but it made my day *lol* So it just depends how much it is an issue for you, good luck

*shrugs*

I initially used a zip code of the next town over, never stated my actual town and just used a geographical region (i.e. south-west Idaho) since I was from a very rural area. I didn't use a picture of my face but only sent additional photos to friends or people I knew I could trust.

Privacy online can be a joke. I googled my own name for kicks and giggles and came up with a number of hits immediately, including a live webcam of ferrets that I enjoy viewing. Best thing to do is not put anything out there you don't want people knowing. In this day and age, many people are being terminated and disciplined for crap they put on their MySpace or Facebook accounts. I know that my Facebook accounts links to Lumus' who has a number of co-workers on His account. So anything I do or say, they can see. Needless to say, we're careful about what goes on the accounts.

She says in her profile that she doesn't like Democrats, maybe she is worried she is being viewed by random left wingers.  Maybe she doesn't want viewed by those who are beneath her as she says, "So who is this lovely blonde? Someone who is probably out of your league."

You have the option of hiding your profile.
*poof*
You become invisible without having to delete it.

Privacy on the net is a myth. Was reasonably certain most people comfortable with the net had given up on it as a fairly antiquated idea.
