NPR noted today that President-Elect Obama will be the first president to put a desktop computer in the Oval Office.

No wonder people want change.

think they`ll use a mac or pc?

BKSir -> RE: The Computer Age Meets the Oval Office! (11/19/2008 3:15:40 PM)

Meh, it's just so he can play World of Warcraft.  ;)

I'm kidding, obviously, but seriously, can't you just picture him playing some mmo?

Actually, I can't understand how there hasn't been one there for the last, at least 12 years.  Giving a LITTLE benefit of the doubt before then, as the internet wasn't quite what it is today, nor were the operating systems.  But now, there's no excuse for there to not be.  In fact, it's kind of stupid that there isn't.  So much information out there, and who needs info more than a world leader?

That, and he has to check his messages on CM, and hit the forums, no? [:D]

At the least he can watch up to date news reports scroll by on CNN.

Can't wait until someone hacks into it.

windchymes -> RE: The Computer Age Meets the Oval Office! (11/19/2008 4:01:04 PM)

I'm amazed that there wasn't one before now.....but then, if Clinton had had one, they would have never gotten him out of the porn sites, and Bush probably kept trying to log into "Yippee" and "Goober" instead of Yahoo and Google...[8|]

Damn! If only the security guys had thought of that!

Well, hopefully they read this site and learn.

DesFIP -> RE: The Computer Age Meets the Oval Office! (11/19/2008 4:51:31 PM)

Bet he'll have netnanny installed and boast about it.

TheHeretic -> RE: The Computer Age Meets the Oval Office! (11/19/2008 6:04:05 PM)

Ok.  I'm just going to add Barack.Obama at whitehouse.gov to my contacts, and see if the emails bounce back or not.  Think he likes redneck jokes?

It's a good thing network security is a fool proof defense against hacking.

Enjoy that kool-aid.

You're right. Let's completely eliminate all computers in government.

Enjoy your little world.

~FR~
POTUS has a private office adjoining the Oval Office.  That Office (Oval) is not necessarily used as a day and day out working office.  Bills are signed there, certain meetings are held there (with the attendant intimidation factor of that office coming into play), photo ops are planned for that office, etc.  But there is another office, which I am confident has and has had any and all necessary computer networks already installed and ready to go.
The fact the PE Obama wishes to put a desktop computer onto that desk is...well...
*shrug*
newsworthy?
