corysub -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 2:59:35 AM)

Another case of the judicial system of the country being used by a guy for political gain....he should be thrown out of the Texas bar for bringing such a silly, and unconstitutional, suit that will obviusly be thrown out in lower courts.  He should be sued by citizens for wasting taxpayer money.  Aside from there being no basis in the law for a local State District Attorney such as Juan Guerra to bring suit against the Vice-President..he obviously has not read the constitution, to cite Cheney's ownership in a "mutual fund" that owns stock in a private prison is ludicrous.  The man needs some meds...he should take two albian with a shot of vodka and get some sleep.

Evility -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 3:59:35 AM)

"In the March 2008 Democratic Primary, 70 percent of the Willacy County voters elected to remove Juan Guerra as Willacy County District Attorney," Cowen said in a statement. "Now, with only a few weeks left in his term, Mr.Guerra has again chosen to misuse his position in an attempt to seek revenge on those who he sees as political enemies."

Sounds a lot like all the comments I read about Sarah Palin in Troopergate but since the political parties are reversed Guerra must be right.

Dnomyar -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 4:05:42 AM)

Obama lets stupid people vote?  What a moronic statement.

MmeGigs -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 4:19:11 AM)

I saw this in the paper yesterday.  It was an eye-roll moment for me.  There's no way the indictments are going to stand - I'm sure that the judge will throw it out - no way that they can be seen as anything but politically motivated.  All they're going to accomplish with this is to get the screamers on either side all wound up.  That is so much not what we need.

RacerJim -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 4:47:13 AM)

It wasn't that Obama let stupid people vote but, rather, it was that Obama and the mainstream-media kept smart people ignorant enough to vote for him.  Note that on a nationwide basis, people within the group below (18 - 30 year-olds) voted for Obama over McCain by a 2:1 ratio -- a higher ratio than any other group except African-Americans.

Zogby Poll

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points
97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates
Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions
57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)
81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)
82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)
88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)
56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).
And yet.....
Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes
Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter
And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!
Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.
Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

Not even a nice try. The governor never convened a grand jury presenting any evidence of criminal activity or even malfeasence. Grasping at straws again. Will it never end ? Plus, there was a death involved.

Mr. Guearra must be taking lessons from W. He too is changing many rules via executive order (outside congressional approval) in his last weeks in office.

I'd like to see the same survey done on Bush & Co. and  in the end...who fucking cares ?

Yes, for the repubs after these clowns were re-elected by keeping the smart people dumb enough to vote repub. who for the next 6 years have changed the whole financial and industrial outlook for this country and NOT for the better for most Americans.

I am sure I could find at least 512, 100% of which would now say that electing Bush & Co. was the biggest mistake in electoral history. We now have officially 100 million people at or below the poverty rate in the richest country ever ?

Besides...electoral voting make-up is like stats in sports...for losers...so tough, get over it.

One could just as easily suggest that it was the dumb redneck, the welfare farmer and the corporate/investor class that got W. elected and all but the redneck made out famously.

"Ignorance is bliss"

Yes, ignorance is truly bliss.

In order for research or polling to be valid you start with a question and try to prove a conclusion, not the opposite.
From your own link:

All of this was conducted for a forthcoming documentary on how the news media impacted the 2008 election. Please get on our mailing list and return to this website in the coming months for more information on the film, "Media Malpractice... How Obama Got Elected"

John Ziegler commissioned the poll in a blatant attempt to generate publicity for his own film, in the hope that "well-informed" voters like you would be helping him line his pockets.

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/11/zogby-engages-in-apparent-push-polling.html :

"To my mind, this survey meets the definition of a "push poll", which the Random House Dictionary defines as "a seemingly unbiased telephone survey that is actually conducted by supporters of a particular candidate and disseminates negative information about an opponent." That (i) several of the items on the survey contain information which, in addition to being negative, is arguably also untrue; (ii) Ziegler brags that the survey includes a trick question to which no correct answer can be provided, and that (iii) apparently only Obama voters were targeted by the survey (although this is not 100 percent clear), also inform my opinion that the survey can fairly be described as a "push poll"."

I'm happy to see this happening and I hope that it expands to the Federal level. I would like to see long drawn out Congressional hearings regarding the activities of the last 8 years of the Bush administration. With any luck the process will take a couple of years and require the dedicated effort of both houses of Congress.

My thought process is, as long as they are spending time and effort on these matters they aren't passing bills raising taxes and providing rewards to failures.

Not for nothing Merc, but that drum you keep beating is not the only drum.Despite your obsession with it.

Termyn8or -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 9:17:15 AM)

Well that's one way to think about it Merc..... Really though I think it is going to roll off their backs, might be a minor inconvenience for a time but I don't think anything is going to stick to them. With their resources they can easily handle some county DA.

To make those kind of people sweat you need to make a federal case out if it, and I do not mean that figuratively. If I were they I would be more concerned about possible action by the Hague. I don't think they want to stay in the US forever.

There are also provisions in international law that can allow other countries to bring charges. I don't want to go research it right now but I have heard of it. I might look into it after work. These provisions are wrought by treaty, so it might take some doing to find it.

...there's been talk about prosecuting members of GWB's government for a while. Let this process start and see if there's any legal case to answer. If there is, then it ought to proceeed......if there isn't then kick the idea to the curb and move on......but keep politics out of it as much as possible.

I'm obsessed? You mean like those who are obsessing with investigating the outgoing administration? I'm sincerely hoping that as much time and effort is spent on that versus giving out more handouts to failing or failed losers; whether they be individuals or corporate.

What else has gone on or been discussed in Washington?

Don't you follow the news? Failure of the financial institutions, the car manufacturers; all you have to have on your resume is failure and you can line up for government money.

Has any success been used as an example or discussed other than in terms of how much more of their earnings can be taxed to give to the failures?

Please, if you have any other "drum" to beat - let me know.

slvemike4u -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 10:08:50 AM)

A prime example of your obsession merc, all the news is currently dealing with is efforts out of this economic morass we find ourselves in......you translate all of that to your "rewarding failure" theme.Point in fact it is the parts of our economy that need an assist so that the healthy parts can remain so.Do you suggest our elected officials ignore the worsening situation and let the chips fall where they may.Yours is a particularly harsh Darwinian model merc and if adhered to a lot of innocents as well as the guilty would pay the bill.

I'm not suggesting, I'm stating they are making it worse. Not one go forward plan only more money down the drain. Since you didn't provide any other perspective I've not been moved from than "one drum".

Regarding the reference to Darwin, are you a creationist believing that a god will provide manna from heaven?

slvemike4u -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 11:06:43 AM)

What the fuck...a reference to Darwin...means I'm a creationist....care to explain that?

No - I'm still awaiting for you to provide a different drum. I'll let your reference, and my reponse stand in context as an example of a non reponse.

slvemike4u -> RE: Could not happen to nicer guys (11/19/2008 11:21:38 AM)

Merc I have no need to supply you with a different drum, for no matter the tune ,you manage to bring it back to this one salient point.Your favorite phrase, the root of all evil in America "rewarding failure"....it is your touchstone  your theme song so to speak. You measure all of America's problems and backtrack them to this one theme and all can be blamed on some social program or another.Have at it merc,I for one find it amusing ....
BTW merc this thread is a prime example of what I'm referring too,it is a thread about indictments against the VP and the former Attorney General and you have made it about "rewarding failure"....I rest my case.
