im going to italy in a week and am wondering what the local woman prefer on an average. Shaved, trimmed, waxed, brazilian... I plan on getting a taste of the local flavor, so i figured i would come prepared.
i know this is a very personal preferance, however i have heard that they have taken a interest in more "rugged" and manly guys, so im wondering if i should skip the wax/razor before my trip.
if this is in the wrong section, please move it, as i could not find a more suitable place.
thanks

I lived in Italy for almost three years.  Italian men, as a rule, are excellent lovers.  This is because they take great pride in making a woman feel wonderful.

It is common in Italy for men to shave about once every three days.  Of the men I knew there only one had no pubic hair and he was a male stripper.  Women preferred someone looking extremely young for that.  Other than that you are right about the rugged look.

Italians are very fashion conscious.  They will look at your shoes in particular.  Brighter colors tend to be worn and their perception of what colors mean are different from Americans.  For instance, it is not uncommon to see men in pink there.  They expect Americans to wear jeans; Levis seem to be preferred.  Top it off with a nice shirt and a sports jacket of some type.  Necklaces and bracelets are considered part of normal accessories there for men.

It is a culture where it is extremely common to touch; a hand just above the crook of the elbow or bumping knees under the table is considered good manners by most.  Coffee is extremely important within the culture, so if you want to have a relaxing conversation in advance try going to a cafe.  There is a type of chocolate there with chili pepper in it which is considered an aphrodisiac.  Check the airport for it.  The men often wink at the women and make a LOT of eye contact.  Bring your own condoms with you.  Make sincere compliments.

They are very impressed if you can use a few Italian words.  Here are a few simple ones:

Please   per favore  (pair faVOray)
Thank you    grazie (GRATS ee ay)
Very good   buonisimo  (bwo NEE see mo)
What a beautiful woman    que bella donna (kay BELL ah Doe na)
Hello or goodbye   ciao  (chow)
Good evening   buona sera  (bwo na SAY ra)
Good morning   buon giorno   (bwon JOR no)
I want you   bisogno te  (bee ZONE yo Tay)

Kisses on both cheeks are typical when meeting friends.  You may have the chance to do that.  If the friends are very good they hold hands at the same time.

Good luck.  : )  Remember, they will expect the best so don't make a bad name for us Americans.

Skipping the "on average", Italian women find "manly" men totally obnoxious - you are visiting a country when men have been known to make ridiculous efforts to look underneath blonde's skirts (no, this isn't an anecdote, I've witness this happen to my ballerina ex-wife). In general, if you don't speak Italian, you'll be laughed at behind your back, and will be buying a lot of drinks and dinners for very little score. Americans are generally not popular in Europe, with the exception of England and Ireland, although this is changing due to the election results, they now think we may have brains after all.

Stay away from the Rome, the South and from the voluminous tourist destinations, they're geared only to taking your money. Milan is the most civilized and cosmopolitan city in Italy, some of the very best restaurants I have ever eaten are there - Richard Avedon's books were always published in Milan first, before they were published anywhere else outside of the US - but if you can't behave culturally appropriate, you'll be laughed at. I've lived in Monaco, where the Italian rich come to party, around the holidays, and after experiencing that (and them) once, I spent my holidays in places they weren't.

Please be careful approaching women, if you inadvertently approach a beautiful Italian woman, just to buy her a drnk and chat her up, and her fiance or husband or their brothers or family friends are somewhere near, you'll need your medical insurance - I am not joking, I have seen this happen up close, they don't give a toss, and the cops will be slapping their backs.

My recommendation? South of France, and Barcelona, if you want to do the Meditteranean.

I would agree with Antipod that Milan has some of the best food in the world.  I live in Manhattan and am used to great food, but I truly loved the food.

Wow. Well said. I agree. Italians are not Americans.

For one thing, they have an extremely well developed concept of friend and foe that Americans can't even comprehend.
Friend is a wide swath of anyone who is a friend of anyone they like or is a relative or sometimes a powerful person.
Foe is just about everyone else, probably including you (excluding the exceptions above).

That's their culture and they're sticking to it. They've been ruled by invaders for thousands of years, and that's how they survived.
Given that you, as a foreigner, are not likely not their amico, good luck with the ladies.

The one thing you have going for you though is that most europeans (French excepted) love to practice their English with a blue passport holder.

Use that as your ticket to conversation. Good luck,
Ciao,
Pompeii

This is probably one of the most ridiculous things I've read on the internet. And I am saying this on a site where about 45% of the profiles involve dragons.

If you're anything like this in person, I think your odds are better of finding an English speaking unicorn who can get you into tourist destinations for free. Maybe try faking an Italian accent and picking up American tourists while you're there. I know guys who have done that successfully.

I'm the complete opposite of a suave Italian. I'm blond with a day or two of growth most of the time (not designer growth) and wear jeans and tee shirt (sans designer label). When I had a job in Italy a couple of years ago I pulled. Don't ask me how, I wasn't trying, I was more concerned with work and I think that was probably the answer to my success, women were the last thing on my mind. She was typical Italian and seemed to spend all her money on clothes, though she rather rudely expected me to pay for all the drinks and meals etc. But hey, I could claim tax back on them as expenses, one of the perks being self employed. I doubt being American would make a difference despite what someone on the thread said. Most Europeans aren't anti-American, they are anti-American government which is not the same thing, many wouldn't want to be blamed for their government so wouldn't blame someone else for theirs.

meatcleavers post actually made me think of one thing that could potentially lead to getting chicks over there. Obama shirt. Tell everyone you voted for him, and Europeans will be stoked.

I advise keeping your lower regions closely trimmed but not fully shaved or waxed simply for the sake of comfort.  Sitting for several hours on an airplane does not go well with a freshly shaved or waxed groin area and could cause a rash from underwear chafing your skin.

If you are really determined to find out the preferences in male appearances, do a browser search for Italian men's fashion styles and some Italian porn.  You could also check for nude or topless beaches.  No doubt some of our travelers to Italy could fill you in on the details of beach life.

My first real love was from Venice, she taught me how to dress, to shave twice a day, to be impeccable about personal hygiene and to always make sure I had a good scent on. Italians are the warmest people on earth. So why did I marry an Englishwoman? Maybe I don't like life to be too easy...
Remember that food will cost you a fortune, but you get it cheaper if you stand at a counter, and try a ristretto coffee, you'll be awake for days, don't put much in your suitcase clothes are infinitely better qaility there than in the US and if you ask around the locals will tell you where to shop, don't be afraid to ask, they love Yanks, the only problem you will have will be getting away.
Last time I went to Italy I went to Golfo in Sicily and I only bought two meals in two weeks, I got took in by loads of people and fed to the earholes.
Relax and let Italy take care of you.
Just watch it in Naples, that's all.

Maybe I am crazy, but my first question that pops to mind is....

You are going to Italy for a week and think you think that the state of your pubic hair is going to matter to the women of that country....in one week?

Please tell me you are not making one of your tourist ambitions to nail an authentic Italian chick.  Please tell me that you are not under the delusion that 'hot blooded Italian' women are all on the prowl (hope you are not going to Florence!)?

I have lived in Italy.  There is a lot to do and see in Italy, much more than you can cram in a week, and the state of your pubes will not matter at all.

LOL, being half Italian I do agree absolutely! Chances to "pull" aren't really that high, actually possibly even slimmer than in any other European country.

I think Italy has very subtle differences, it is more "touchy" but that doesn't mean groping (actually considered very bad form unless you are hanging out in very sleazy establishments and groping in public transportation happens about as much as it does in Manhattan), it seems more flirty but that is just a different way of social interaction, it's not meant to be followed up, a bit like if you ask "How are you?", you don't expect a full medical update on the person. So a woman flirting with you is often just a way of small talk, making it a nicer interaction and not a "I want to go to bed with you" thing.

Manners go a very very long way and men are expected to pick up the tab if asking a woman out, simply good form, the old fashioned chivalry, the same goes for opening doors and all that. People are making an effort to look effortlessly stylish, shoes are important, designer gear not so much but it is important that the clothes are well cut and good quality.

As for grooming, men and women are well groomed, body hair on women is a big NO NO, it means you neglect yourself which is considered to be a very bad sign, I never really spent time asking male family members how they keep their pubes, but from going to the gym I observed that guys tend to clip their armpits but not shave them, so I would assume it's the same a bit lower.

You don't need to speak fluent Italian, most Italians speak English (even if often with a very strong accent) but a few phrases will go a very long way, it simply shows that you made an effort and respect a different culture. Stay away from the tourist traps and you will find that people tend to be very friendly and will treat you as you treat them. Acting like the tourist on the pull and expecting the women to drop their knickers for somebody who's visiting is bound to make your trip a very unpleasant experience.

While we are in the CM forums let me give you a great piece of advice. There are CM people in most every country.  Look thru the list here and contact one of them. What better guide for you is there than a person you have made friends with thru here.

I must say that the OP makes me glad that while visiting my family in Italy, I go native!   Dad of course was born there, but when out and about, I am all dagonian all the time.  I am even so cruel as to refuse to assist Americans that are behaving like jackasses!

Right, that's just the kind of private mail that Italian women on Collarme want to receive from strange American men.

"Hello, I is travlin' to yo country one a deez dayz and like could you gimme some pointers on what the local females prefer in terms of like dick size and scrotum hygiene?  I knows you is a total stranger and all but like maybe you could gimme a hand?"

According to the young Italian lady who worked for me for a while, the best advice when visiting Italy is to ensure you are smartly and fashionably dressed at all times. Otherwise you will be mistaken for a gypsy, east European or a Brit.
