I think it's safe to assume you didn't see Death of a President. It doesn't glorify killing Bush in any way. A big theme in the movie is actually that if Bush was assasinated the world would go to shit. If anything, I think it would probably discourage any assasination attempts haha

Obama should be OK, To kill a President you need certain things.
A high powered smaller caliber rifle with a scope
A vantage point from which to shoot, at the right time and plae,
Complicity of the CIA, FBI and the secret service. (they get you the place you shoot from)
So, if you ever go out to do an assassination, bear all this in mind. Without all three components you are a loser. Even with all three components you are a loser.
You could be the biggest spy in town, but if anything goes wrong, anything at all, it falls on you.
Fuck that.

Actually, any zealot could do it with a bomb, gun, knife, biological or chemical weapon, airplane, car bomb, or a variety of things I won't go into, if they see themselves as martyrs.   No need to survive if you believe in the cause enough.

They only have to be successful one time, whereas the Secret Service has to be 100% successful.

You don't have to be a sniper from 1000 yards (915 meters)  on a windless day.  You just have to be slightly creative and determined, though crazy probably helps too!

Disclaimer:  Although I didn't vote for either major candidate, I don't wish anyone harm.  Well, in a bad way, that is....

I started to watch it a couple of times (figuring it was my civic duty), but the bullshit was just too ripe.

Here is a copyright free synopis of the plot, however, which shows that the movie had all the "Lib" talking points on display:

quote:

Broadcast in 2008, Death of a President is a faux documentary news report, with talking head interviews, about the assassination of U.S. President George W. Bush on 19 October 2007, in Chicago. The television news report how a sniper fatally shot the president after his giving an economic speech at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel, before which an anti-war protest rally was occurring. A man of Assyrian origin, Jamal Abu Zikri, becomes the prime suspect.

Vice President Dick Cheney, now president, uses the possible al-Qaeda connection of the suspected assassin, Mr Zikri, to push his own domestic political security agenda. He calls for the legislation of PATRIOT Act III — to increase the investigative powers of the F.B.I., the police, and other government agencies, over U.S. citizens and resident aliens, and contemplates attacking Syria.

Mr Zikri is convicted of killing the U.S. President and sentenced to death — based upon dubious forensic evidence; moreover, the report indicates that the perpetrator most likely is Al Claybon, a veteran of the 1991 Persian Gulf War, who lived in Rock Island, Illinois, and who also was father of David Claybon, a U.S. Soldier recently killed in Iraq. The assassin, who blames President Bush for the death of his son, killed himself after Bush's assassination. Claybon's suicide note, addressed to a second son, Casey Claybon, an Iraq War veteran living in Chicago who was previously considered as a suspect, reads:

“ Everything I stood for and raised you to stand for has turned bad. There's no honor in dying for an immoral cause. For lies. I love my country, but I love God, and the sons He gave me even more. I must do the right thing by you and by David. George Bush killed our David, and I cannot forgive him for that. ”

Ten months after President Bush's assassination, Mr Zikri remains in death row, because government officials are deliberately delaying his legal appeal. Moreover, in his dead father's Rock Island house, Casey Claybon finds evidence of his father's planning of the shooting of President Bush; the most incriminating evidence is a copy of a top secret presidential itinerary outlining — to the minute — President Bush's Chicago whereabouts on 19 October 2007. The news report ends while the U.S. Government continues investigating how presidential assassin Al Claybon obtained that top secret document.

The final inter-titles of Death of a President tell the viewer that President Cheney's PATRIOT Act III was signed into permanent United States law.

To the point of the thread ... it's all about perception, nameless sources, and, to top it off ... provided by the AP. I don't think you can pander to the prejudices any better than that.

To me, this is all one with the recent "redneck, racist hillbilly" = "didn't vote for Obama" meme that is crashing through the media (and the forums).

I would also bet that the number of threats has been exponentially greater for each of the past four post-electoral cycles.  Youngsters on here will probably not realize that there was no virtually no such thing as public internet access in '92, it was extremely limited in '96, common but not pervasive in all aspects of our lives in '00, and still far less than it is today all the WAY back in '04.  Of course there are more threats..  there has never been easier or faster communication available to just about everyone.  This is not to say that we have probably elected the most controversial commander in chief since JFK, we have.  But the ease of making these threats from 'safe' perches now allows us all to hear just what these hygiene-deficient idiots are thinking, rather than just having them mutter it through a tobacco-stained tooth.

I read this article on yahoo... as tacky as it may be, I did chuckle at the name of the conveinece store betting pool thing. Sure I don't like obama, but  I certainly wouldn't put him in the same league as Osama.

Let me put it another way. To kill a President you don't just walk out your door with a Satrurday night special and do it. You NEED the cooperation of people inside the government, and no matter how successful you are your life goes into a world of shit. You are going down. If you are willing to give up your life, fine, but it is still not just a matter of going out there and doing it. It just ain't happening.

And there are two other points I would bring up at this time,  the first of which is that it would do no good. So now the President is a matyr and the vice President is President. You think the vice President is chosen because he disagrees with the President ? I'll get a pair of pliers to open the jar in which you've been living.

And secondly, if you actually intend to kill someone, you never make a threat. These guys are blowing smoke, but they are also playing with fire. They put you in jail just for threatening the President. You don't have to do a thing. I might have twenty warrants and they will not come and get me, but if I did that they would be here very quickly. I would be gone. Everything you do on the net is tracable back to you. Electrons move at near the speed of light in a wire, so there is not much time to go into hiding.

Making a threat is like a quarterback telegraphing his intentions to the opposing team's defense. It is the stupidest thing that anyone could possibly do. Of course that being said someone is going to come along and make a liar out of me, but that's the kind of society we have.

Threats only have one purpose, as a deterrment. You cannot deter these people so it is a waste of time. A threat has to instill fear within the target, and that simply ain't happening.

So if people are doing this shit, lock them up - for being stupid. They are not worth the air they breathe.
