cory, are you really sure that's the future, it kinda sounds like the present.

Anyway back to the point. Get a good grip on something folks, you will need it.

Four hundred years from now the world will have gone through several revolutions, with the last one being worldwide.

After that technology advances, our cars are incredibly efficient. HVAC and humidity control will be easier, possibly more complex, but cheaper. There will be alot more air travel, and even spaceships. People will goon rides, possibly in suits to other planets. I choose not to guess whether we break the old E=MC^2 because I never believed it as interpreted.

If you really want to get out of this world try this.

Well I was referring to the "near term future"..like the next five to ten years.  I don't see any change in the way Congress is operating.  Actually, political partisanship is healthy and alive in D.C. and 2009 will see the democrat party on steroids pursuing the great inquisition and getting even with the Bush Administration.  All of it at a time when we are going through an economic calamity the likes of which no one has seen since the middle 1930's.  And don't forget history...all of the public works spending by the government did not get us out of the depression.  It took WW2 to create the jobs that pulled us out of that sorrowful period.  What the situation will be like in 400 years I have no idea and leave that to science fiction writers.  Certaily no one at the turn of the 20th century could contemplate the use of a few pounds of enriched uranium could power a city, or destroy a city; that man would be flying at three times the speed of sound, and well beyond that on missions to the moon;.how certain disease on the planet could be cured...and that their was such a thing of a country possibly going bankrupt.trying to buy happiness of citizens with trillions of dollars of borrowed money; that a black man would be President when in our history a black man was denied his election victory to sit in the Congress.
I do see the strength of a "can do" America who went out and did it being replaced by a government that know better than the people what is good for them, is totally immersed in just about every aspect of our lives which soon will include the carbon dioxide being declared a pollutant that is causing "global warming"...when the world would be a dead planet if it wasn't for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere giving life to the plants that give us the oxygen to survive. Hey..didn't think of this before, but I can now also add to my discouragement about the near term future the possibility of being taxed based on the amount of carbon dioxide I exhale into the atmosphere.  How do we get off this crazy planet....ET go home!...please....

I see a totally inept and dysfunctional Congress already enjoying the lowest popularity in history, will continue bogged down wasting taxpayer money in hearings after hearings trying to GET Bush and Cheney..not focusing or caring about the middle class average "Joe" who is trying to feed his family.  The Reid/Pelosi team  will take their politics into the core of our capitalistic system and destroying incentive to invest and prolonging the agony of a deep recession.  Our energy policy will be to dictate highter mileage standard for our car companies, regulations that have significantly caused, along with crazy union settlements, the demise of the U.S. auto industry.  Nuclear, oil, coal will be discarded in an economy that runs on fossil fuels in favor of "windmills"...but NIMBY.
Workers will be denied the right to a secret ballot to vote  if he/she wants or doesn't want a union shop, another increase in the miniumum wage will be inacted and being the last straw for so many small businessmen already fighting to stay in business in a deteriorating environment.   The age of the environmentalist in control of the legislative agenda will hamstring business with regulations, destroy any remaining competitive advantage our industry might posses in the world.....and the destruction of the U.S. military by a President who will work the ultra liberal democrat  agenda of compromise, defeat and withhdrawal that has been the formula of that party for the past half century..  85% of Americans will lose their healthcare plans to satisfy the needs of the 15% who don't have healthcare.  Idiots that purchased homes they could not afford will be bailed out along with wealthy Wall Street bankers, and the middle class working slob trying to do the right thing will be tapping out his savings account to stay in his home.
Esprit d''Corp and morale that our volunteer army presently posseses will be destroyed by the radical principles of the 1960's that guide our new president.  Large numbers of the officer corps will probably take early retirement rather than be led by a Commander In Chief who has been against the military all of his public life.  The stock market will trade down another 30% plus as people rush out of stocks and into gold and other hard assets.
Net, I don't see anything good happening for a few years.......the four horsemen are coming.
P.S. The girls will get a labradoodle puppy.

The low approval rating of congress was only for the 48-49% of it, that was republican.In case you hadn`t noticed,there was a recent election(or poll,...if you will[:D]) and dems picked up 20 house seats and may well get 60 Senate seats.

The republicans lost seats.

Gain,...loss,....democrats gain,....republicans,....loss .Gain = good [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m6.gif[/image] ,loss = bad[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m7.gif[/image] .

The ratings will go up for congress and well as for the POTUS,starting in January.

President Obama.I love the sound of that.[:D]
~~~~~~~~~~~
I see neo-cons/republicans running from their responcibilities and any accountability for their malfisence over the last 8 years.
When things turn around,and they will,I see neo-conservative attempting to take credit for any good news.
I see finally a real investigation in to 9/11 with cooperating witnesses who are under oath and an administration(former) unable to block/hinder it.Rebublicans may feel put upon,tough cookies.We need to know what happened ,no matter who it  embarrasses.
I see a real invetsigation of Katrina pick up, where Joe the shlomo Lieberman dropped it.This situation,like the others mentioned,can`t be fixed or improved unless we know the truth behind it all.
I see an actual investigation into Plamegate and the delibrarte public identification of an under-cover CIA agent ,with out the ability of the admin. to obstruct justice as before.
I see and look forward to a AG who isn`t a political hack and criminals` best friend.
I see a litany of horrible crimanal acts commited by bushies and Bush friends to be discovered(considering the one`s we already know about).Witnesses won`t fear retribution and will be listened to,finally.
I see finally, justice for former Alabama Gov.Don Siegelman without Bushco obstructing justice.I see a time when a man`s liberty isn`t taken by criminal types like Karl Rove.Won`t that be refreshing.
I see Bush giving out a blanket pardon that will try to cover as many of the criminals as possible in his admin.He won`t be able to remember everything though,there`s so damm much.
I see Bush pardoning himself.  LOL
I see a lot of whining and crying by Bush supporters/apologists with more of the same"when will it stop" look on their faces,for years to come.<he-he>
I see a split,a real split in the republican party.
With neo-cons and fundies continuing the insincere game playing and the same old bullshit way of opperating.Ronold Reagen`s ideas will live on in them,and drive them father into obscurity.
I see Sarah the Plunderer as their new leader.80 % of active republicans want her as their new leader.And 100 % of active democrats want that too.[:D][:D]
The rest of what`s leftover of the decimated GOP will re-examine their conservitive roots(pre-Reagen) going back to Goldwater.
This group of worthy political apponants will once again ,...be conservatives.
It`ll be refreahing to have people who mean what they say and say what they mean.Neo-conservatives have a moral compase that`s more like a roulette wheel.There`s no tell`n what`s going on there,take a spin to find out.
Now that there are less conservatives in power ,especially the exectutive branch,I see less bickering and more actual work getting done.
I see the approval rating of congress and the president going up,along with consumer confidence,investor confidence and and our nation`s economic performance going up.
I see America rediscovering her libertarian roots, as people remember that only individual man can be free, and that only individual man is possessed of the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  And I see prosperity returning, as free men tend to be either a) industrious or b) quite dead.
This is a silly assertion as freedom is a state of mind and not a state of being.
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above
Enjoy such liberty.
W. Lovelace
I find it strange that in a culture that claims to have so much faith in god, there are people that still don't recognize what all the great revelatory minds have taught over the millenia and which a modicum of reflection would endorse.
meat, that sounds familiar, are you talking "Birdman Of Alcatraz"(sp) here ?
Richard Lovelace, a 17th century poet wrote those lines but I think they were qouted by or in relation to the bird
man.
I too, see more koolaid being available.  Though sometimes, I gotta say, it is tempting to just drink it and be done with it!  On the other hand, I'm waiting for the Revolution, when we can work on American Constitution, V2.
I do not believe the institutions are old or infirm.   Nor do I believe the Constitution has to be replaced.   But, it would be nice to find 3 politicians out of 100 who are honest.  I would have asked for 3 who do not have a hidden agenda but they do not even bother hiding their agenda's anymore.  It seems to me that the problem is a universal loss of morality.
MarsBonfire -> RE: Future you see (11/16/2008 8:31:10 AM)
I see several more decades of terrorists attacking civilized nations, like a virus, or a cancer cell colony will attack the healthy tissue around it. At least until the world finds a better power source than fossil fuels. Then they will quickly fall back into irrelevance.
In America, short term, you can expect the economic problems we have to pale before the one's we'll see in the next ten years. Not because of Obama, but because 80% of the foreclosures haven't happened yet. Credit will seize up, and we'll all be living like it's 1928 all over again.
I've always known that this would happen someday. That's why I've spent a good deal of my life preparing for it. I own my little home outright, as I do with my cars (which I know how to repair myself) I have wooded land which will allow me to heat my home in a pinch, and a garden that supplies me with everything but meat. (Luckily, the deer seem to like my land, and there are several good fishing spots within a short drive.)
It is my hope that things don't get that bad. I like having electricity, and being able to go to an ER, if needed.... but, as my Dad always taught me, "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."
I agree with every thing you said, here!
MarsBonfire? Come sit next to me, can we talk?
I am settling down in the house my Grandfather built during
the last Depression, and fixing it up.
Rex I think you misspoke.
"We need a new constitution in a bad way"
I think we need the old Constitution in a good way.
