"Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night will keep me from my appointed rounds." it seems this doesn't cover high gas prices, delayed flights, misdirected or completely lost or damaged mail. or, for that matter lack of dependable workers. so why do they keep upping the cost of postage, if it's no longer working?

One of my best friends is a postman, he takes it all pretty seriously. I mean its just here but the mail seems fine to me (mind you getting orders from other countries, ok the US takes weeks and weeks and weeks)

around here, the Postal service has told me numerous times, after the failure of mail being picked up, that they have no obligation to pick up mail if there's no mail to deliver. what's up with that? many times i've put things in my mailbox to go out and the mailman (if he has no mail to drop off) will just drive right on by...leaving my mailbox untouched. which is why i called several times to complain.

the postman's creed is only valid depending where you live in Chicago. i'll be lucky if my "regular" guy has mine delivered before 7p. some days he/she will come if the temps are above 40 and deliver it before noon. reporting lost or missing mail to the local post office station is a joke - they rarely return phone calls or follow up to see if the problem has been resolved. in one suburb, the mail wasn't being delivered because of constant gang fire. so residents were getting their mail delivered once a week.

Then when I put in a change of address for my business mail. She then chose to hold all of my mail hostage once more. They then handed me a stack of mail she had chosen not to deliver. When she has a package...she walks up to the door empty handed..then runs back to her car. Another overcompensated government job that could just as easily be performed by well-trained monkeys. We should replace mail carriers with 20-somethings doing mandatory national service.

One of my retired Coast Guard buddys is a letter carrier in some of the worst neighborhoods in Kansas City. He always does a very good job, very consciencious type he! He told me that even the gang members step aside for him on the sidewalks, "because I'm the one who brings the checks." "Never a problem!"

Mail is hit and miss here. If we have a lot of snow or having a bad storm he won't deliver my mail. Some days he just skips my house completely, I never get my mail before 5 pm and I end up with everyone's mail but my own. But yet all the neighbors seem to adore him. I personally don't get it.

I have no doubt there are more Newmans than Cliff Clavins out there on the streets nowadays. What can be worse? Our Canada) postal workers are private corporation and unionized lol. But, it isn't that bad. No mail Saturdays (never was any) and I have yet to have anything lost or not arrive at all because of change of address card didn't go through. Knocks on wood.
