I went to Folsom Street Fair with Bita. I had a lot of fun, although I mostly attribute that to the company I was with. I have since been to a local munch, but I didn't now anyone there and only mildly enjoyed myself. I'm less inclined to attend again unless I go with a friend.

I learnt this weekend, when going to a play club, go with a friend.  But then, I'm no social butterfly.

My first time was great also, loads of fun at a private party held at a club.
I was sort of thrown into the middle of things
Ex Master came home with a bag said put these on (leather bra and thong), I did, he put a leash on my collar and told we were going out. On the way there he explained everything, the house rules and what was expected of me.
It was great, everyone was so friendly and warm
I got to see so many things, it was fascinating!!

I went to a party at a club in Atlanta, and was followed around the whole time by an obese man on a Rascal. Every time my friend and I would have a bdsm related conversation, he'd pop in correcting something, and babbled on for 5 minutes about "how to properly staple someones taint".  >.<

Thankfully, following visits haven't been as awkward.

I went to a fetish club with a friend. I'd never had any sort of BDSM experience, publically or privately at this point. I ended up with a scantily clad woman on my lap. Bare skin in front of my face? Well, of course, that's for biting. She enjoyed it for a moment, and then I ended up in a little corner with my hair being pulled, my face being slapped, and a little friendly body punching going on.

My first event was a munch in Massachusetts quite a few years ago. It was OK, but nothing special. But just recently I went to my first Fetish Ball here in San Antonio with a group of friends and I loved every second of it. I wore a corset and a skirt and by the end of the evening my corset had come off and I was wearing just some liquid latex over my nipples along with my skirt. I never would have thought I would be that bold, but it was easy with so many others in various stages of undress. I saw some great play demonstrations and enjoyed the vendors as well as the DJs. I will definitely be going to more events in the future!

The first munch I was sooo nervous! I had no idea what to expect and there was no one there I REALLY knew.  I had met the host once, but that was it. I was pretty quiet most of the time, but to the end I warmed up. Everyone was super friendly and nice. Now I help co host that munch when I'm needed to. I send out invites, ect... The munch has helped me a great deal with over coming being shy.

The first time I went to the club, again I was super nervous. I had no clue what to expect. It was one of their big events of the year. I had a great time and even got into the game with the auction. That was super fun!

I've had a wonderful time with both of my first real interaction in the community.

The first experiance in public I had was at the Hellfire club in NYC. It was a real eye opener. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Every time I go to to one of those things I am either bored out of my skull, wishing I was home with the cats, lonely, or some other bad thing.  Hate them.

I do sometimes get bored at these events, but that seems to have more to do with how outgoing I am feeling when I get there.  I do get a bit tired of the posturing, being put upon by mdoms who can't accept that I am not a sub, and people so engrossed in "looking good" that they can't just have a good time.  My first event was at a large house in the Hollywood Hills somewhere circa 1985? I think.  I was there with people I loved and I was loaded out of my skull, so I am sure I had a good time.

I had went down to a TNG meeting down in Dallas for my very first event. I met some wonderful people,  and some of the scenes and demos I saw were amazing. Just the chemistry and dynamics between people were what got me hooked. It was a great first experience and left me curious about more and started me on this path in real life.

Hawaii 1984.. my first glimpse of a fully-equipped playroom. My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw the St Andrews cross. The ceiling was peppered with huge eyebolts and one whole wall was consumed with a collection of wonderful toys. <sigh>

My first on the mainland was 10 yrs later, at a private event in a large country house. I was fascinated by the checkerboard grid of chains suspended from beams. There was leather EVERYwhere and my leather-loving brain was delirious.

I was a sub then. I will spare you the details but my head spun for days :)

The first time girl went to a munchie of the local community here in Vancouver, was actually to do some research for a character was to portray in street theater. It was interesting and at the same time absolutely fascinating, had to get permission first but continued to go to a few events.
Only thing that girl didn't like was that the majority of dominants were men and of the sub/slaves in attendance were all girls.
If girl, being a little more knowledgeable of the local community, my personal observation. Gorean. Since my initial introduction and the few subsequent returns, girl has not been back for quite a few years now.

[color="#330066" size="4"]Our first munch was about 13 years ago.  We drove far away so we wouldn't know anyone and went to a munch down near Louisville.
It was at a little bar and maybe 10 to 15 people there.   Master allowed me to play pool with this other submissive.  A male Dom came over and put his money on the table.  I ended up winning the game with the subbie and then ended up winning the next three games with the Dom.
It wasn't that i was that good. it was just he was that bad.  he scratched on the 8 ball one time.  I think another time he knocked the 8 ball in while trying to shoot another ball in and then maybe the last time i actually won by getting my balls in first.  Its not important except he was PISSED!  and went to tell Master that if i was a good submissive i would have known my place was to lose and he was SERIOUS.  Master just laughed and gave him the bone breaking handshake to let him know to ease up a bit.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the other munch members very intelligent, articulate, a couple were professors at the university.  They were very nice.
I don't really know what i expected.    Another lesson in not judging people.  We have since enjoyed going to many munches and dungeons as well as having parties here at our house.
We are happy our first experience was such a positive one to encourage us to continue to meet others and grow.

I attended the Vendors and Artisans event at the Inner Sanctum in Pittsburgh yesterday.  It was the first time I ever attended a  BDSM themed event, and I loved it.  I bought some yummy items, and I even was given a demo flog (my back was still singing driving home! And that was with a sweatshirt on!) for the item I purchased.  Needless to say, I had a wonderful first time experience. I'm so looking forward to being able to have my work schedule allow me to attend the Burgher Munch, which organized the event as I understand. Kudos to you guys!!!

What was your first experience at a BDSM type of event, and how did it go for you?

i know off topic but i assume it would go well if i did go to one and it sounds like you had the demo to see if ya wantted the toy for deanna to use when yall visited again LOL

(resurrecting an old thread, i know)
i went with my Dom to my first ever "event," and it was alot of fun. :) everyone was really nice and helpful, and it was all a lot less SCARY than i thought it was going to be, haha. =p it was like part variety/burlesque show, part benefit/raffle, with a "play party" at the end
i figured i'd freak out by then, but it was actually pretty neat :) there were several things people could use
it was really interesting having "stuff" going on combined with other groups of people having regular old conversations =p totally new setting, but it was alot of fun :)

That sounds fun, Rainyday.

I've been to almost everything but a play party of that sort.

I've been to classes where little pockets of play activity just sort of happened... but that's not quite the same thing.

My first experiences were at munches, which weren't that fun for me.
Mostly because of the setting, I believe; I can enjoy being gregarious at a party with strangers, but not so much in a bar with strangers (unless we're doing something together like playing pool.)

And at these munches there was no organization, no one seemed to be running the thing. It just appeared to be a bunch of people sitting at individual tables at a bar at first glance.

I enjoyed going to a vendor fair, though, because it was neat to see all the stuff people had made.
