Kudos to President Elect Obama.

My hope is for a great Presidency that transcends party and ideology.

Regardless of the future, today is one of the great days in the history of the country and all Americans of good will should wish and pray the President Elect well and success.

I agree, but having just seeing Tucker Carlson fuming with resentment on MSNBC, the mentality that "if you are not with us, you are against us" really has penetrated the masses and infuriated the non supporters.   A shame really given the fantastic history being made, and the potential for renewed hope for so many here and abroad.    M

Likewise, I have great "hope" too!
I hope he gets the Troops out of Iraq, S.Korea, Japan, Germany and a few other places soon.
I hope the American People get a healthcare plan at least as good as the U.S. Senate has.
I hope Obama gets us out of these "free trade" deals that only benefit big cos and the very wealthy.
I hope Obama starts to actually enforce our immigration laws and enforces or closes that Mexican border unlike Bush who's been derelict in his duties in that area for the last 8 years.
I hope Obama goes after and kills Bin Laden and Al Qeada.
Pakistan is not our friend.

I do not give a rat's ass about having a history making President Elect. I DO care about having a President who can turn things around and put this country back on track. If Obama does that, it is enough for me. I wish him well, he has alot to live up to and a lot to deliver.

It is my sincere hope that his supporters are not disappointed. The bar has been set so high for this man, I am not sure it is humanly possible for him to live up to the Utopic Society that everyone believes he is going to create.

God's Speed, President Elect Obama, you have a mammouth summit to overcome. Last night's win, was just the start of the climb.

LOL. Not hopeless at all really.
Obama said it himself last night: that this is only the beginning and his work and  our work is not done. He talked about change not coming magically and what lies ahead. < paraphrasing>

I guess it just amazes me that there * appears* to be the huge sigh of relief that now that we have a bi racial president that all is well in the world and that simply electing a bi racial man somehow has already mysteriously transformed the country out of the ills we suffer. I have seen very little here or elsewhere where people are saying Thank goodness Obama won, now < insert issue> has a good chance of being changed/upheld, etc.

IMO, whoever won this election will have the toughest road of any president in recent history. I did not vote for him, but I truely hope he is able to change my mind in the next four years and bring about positive changes that help us move forward.
So I am hopeful. but also a realist. One man alone, cannot create what some are expecting of him. I saw one woman yesterday on CNN who said she wouldn't have to worry about paying her mortgage as long as Obama was elected. Really ? How does that work ? The economy needs to be corrected, the sole election of one man will not fix your financial problems. It's a process, not an event.

As an Anglo, I canot * feel * what a person of color may feel right now.  I imagine it is an overwhelming emotion. And for his supporters, of any color, who voted for him because he best represented their point of view, I am imensely happy for them. And for those of color who voted for him because he represented their POV, I am doubly happy.  Those, of any color, who voted " to make history" or because he "doesn't look like other presidents", I suspect a good number of them will not even know which bills he signs or vetoes, nor care.

Now that we know who will be our next President, I am more interested in seeing who his cabinet appointees are and who he chooses for his staff. I will know more how I really view the future when I see who he choses to surround himself with.

Awh, you do give a rat's ass, lol.
I understand that we have massive problems in this country to deal with, and to the majority, those are far more significant.  I researched the man's position and qualifications before choosing him.   I could not choose him because he has more melanin than the other guy...  However, the historical significance is not to be denied here.   I do hope for a more perfect union after all, just as I imagine most reasonable folks do.    M

I am color blind in my ideaological/political thoughts, so I underestimate no one.
I am a Libertarian with a big " L", so when the day comes that this country wakes up and votes a third party into office it will be a history making moment for me. Be He/She be black/white/Hispanic/Asian or biracial. I hope I live to see it, but it is doubtful.

Well said.

I hope he'll be one of the greatest presidents we've ever had.

And if Sen. McCain had won, I'd hope he'd be one of the greatest presidents we've ever had.

Why would we wish for anything else?

i was briefly at the mass assembly at Grant Park (before visiting as many parties as i could in one night) and yes, it was defining moment not only for the Black community however for the entire HUMAN community. the crowd was a sea of different cultural, gender and racial backgrounds blended together as one. all of us, perfect strangers to each other, hugged, cried, and cheered as one. you could feel the excitement in the air while Obama spoke to the crowd and nation. people were hyped and ready to begin this change.  yes, we can change if we all as a human community do it together.

you're probably right however don't judge prematurely and unfairly until he's actually in office during his first 100 days.

I hope

That our new foreign policy is based on the betterment of mankind and not the betterment of big business. That our actions abroad are governed by the same constitutional rights afforded our citizens at home.

That when and if absolutely necessary, after all options pursued, we stand behind our decisions with the full might of our armed forces with the knowledge we are in the right.

That we realize that outsourcing Americas industry for the sake of profit will not lead to a healthy economy for our children.

That we understand we must find ways to power our homes, transportation, and industry without dependence on foreign nations.

That we understand the purpose of our government is to provide for our national safety and provide as many benefits as we are willing to fund.

That we understand we MUST pay our bills, even if that means we raise taxes.

That we spend more time on how to follow our constitution then how to get around it.

Butch
