MissEnchanted -> RE: The Magic of Love that transforms through BDSM (11/7/2008 2:40:56 AM)

LA,

I see love having the ability to be a wonderful river that can flow through both BDSM and D/s and I also see it as transforming on a good day.

One of my favorite passages from Kahil Gibran shows how BDSM and love can work together:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'When love beckons to you, follow him, Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning
.
Even as he ascends to your heights and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks. He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant; And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for Love's sacred feast
.
All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.
But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor, Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, "Love is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of Love."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if your love must needs have desires, let these be your desires; To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own understanding of love; And to bleed willingly and joyfully. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy; To return home at eventide with gratitude; And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.'
Kahlil Gibran - The Prophet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I relate the above to myself as a Domme I see how Kahil expresses so well the dynamics of love working through BDSM and D/s.

I put several of those things in italics above.

I love irony also, as it is Murphy's Law the flows through my days as well as love.

I hope that one poster didn't keep you from enjoying Fet Life.

oceanwynds,

Your screename is delightful.

Please read my Kahil Gibran quote. I think it resonates with what you wrote on page one.

Love is the magic that transforms pain into positive energy.

An here I thought it was dopamine and endorphins.

quote:

I am all about 24/7 D/s. That is how I live my life and it brings me joy and pain.
What do you think?

I think that's fine for you... doesn't work that way for me.  Love is part of my life, but not to the extent it seems to be for you.  But hey, if it works for ya, enjoy.

A lot of people are stressed out right now and the purpose of this thread is to regenerate some of that good energy, to remind us of what really matters deep down.

To shine a light on some of that magic that makes life flow, instead of bumping along...

That's cool - I won't step on your toes.  [:)]   I get my re-energizing from the surprising emotional moments that just kinda happen in life - like last night when I watched a friend's daughter shine in a performance and made me so proud of her.  It's things like that, from those who surround me, that make my life worthwhile.

yes mc1234!
That's why staying connected and involved is so important, don't you think?
Those moments come and go in a flash.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, Padriag; it is and love releases those in spades. Other things do too, like a bunch of bdsm, D/s fun.
I've known too many people who proclaim that they love someone else and yet are still selfish. I think you have a romantic view of life which is not a bad thing. It just means you have to be careful not to blind yourself to the reality of your partner, but to judge carefully if he is capable of becoming more than just self oriented when in love. Unfortunately some people can't.
DesFIP,
Absolutely! It means being self-aware and smart when picking a partner.
I am a 'quality over quantity' kind of person. From reading your posts, I see that you are also.
I am a romantic fool. Innocent and niave. I am this way in spite of experiences that have knocked me down. I choose Innocence and hopefulness every time.
I do have to say that real love is thoughtful and takes time. It has honor, integrity and trust within it. It is not selfish. I guess this is what Kahlil Gibran refers to in The Prophet. Some people only want the infatuation and passion. They are not willing to stick around for the deeper types of love that strive to be selfless and transformative.
MissEnchanted -> RE: The Magic of Love that transforms through BDSM (11/8/2008 2:50:04 PM)
luscious lips,
It takes time and energy to build that over time. This is one of my favorite sayings regarding love:
Love is a Verb.
In other words, not just what we 'feel' in the moment, but how we interact.
Loveisallyouneed is the person who shared his views re: More Thoughts; 'The magic of love' on another site and I wasn't sure he had done the writing. He starts some great discussions.  The other long quote is from Kahil Gibran of course.
We have to live in the world we find ourselves in and being a loving person can be tough to maintain, and a healthy goal to aspire to, don't you think?
I have found though that people who would use me just for their own ends are not welcome to the action of my love nor are they welcome to be a part of my life.
The Magic of Love
Magic transforms one thing into another: lead into gold.
Love is the deepest magic: transforming who we are.
Love removes the dross from the gold, the chaff from the wheat ...
Has one alchemist stumbled upon another in the forums of CollarMe.com?
1) It is true without untruth, certain and most true:
2) that which is below is like that which is on high, and that which is on high is like that which is below; by these things are made the miracles of one thing.
3) And as all things are, and come from One, by the mediation of One, So all things are born from this unique thing by adaption.
4) The Sun is the father and the Moon the mother.
5) The wind carries it in its stomach. The earth is its nourisher and its receptacle.
6 The Father of all the Theleme of the universal world is here.
6a) Its force, or power, remains entire,
7) if it is converted into earth.
7a) You separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, gently with great industry.
8) It climbs from the earth and descends from the sky, and receives the force of things superior and things inferior.
9) You will have by this way, the glory of the world and all obscurity will flee from you.
10) It is the power strong with all power, for it will defeat every subtle thing and penetrate every solid thing
11a) In this way the world was created.
12) From it are born wonderful adaptations, of which the way here is given.
13) That is why I have been called Hermes Tristmegistus, having the three parts of the universal philosophy.
14) This, that I have called the solar Work, is complete.
[Translated from Fulcanelli 1964: 312.]
And love is, singularly, the most enigmatic and (sadly) misunderstood thing of all that we all clamber to have from others.
I'm swallowing the bile that keeps on rising, but I think it would be a great reading for a wedding.  With your permission, I'd like to make a copy of it to read at my son's wedding next year [:)]
Hathalud,
I read what you shared several times and really enjoyed it. Thank you so much for posting it.
It reminded me of all kinds of things ..
Survival through the one/One.
Ya know...that's an interesting reaction seeing as how on another thread you seemed to realize the importance of love as a transformer.....
