I'll be voting.. just like i have every year since i turned 18... BUT...

sadly.. this is the first year.. i have NO clue whom im going in to vote for.

i could just throw my vote away on one of the other choices, and not go Dem or Rep.. and that way.. will never have to worry i'd need to admit i voted for someone that turned out to be a mistake... and very likely will be doing that.

I just dont like Obama, and with McCain.. well i just see that as voting for more of the same.. so, no thanks there!

As for IT being over.. finally.

If you don't know who to vote for, I hope you won't mind me giving you a piece of advice. Vote Obama  .

You also thought Vietnam wasn't an issue in the '72 election, but it has been a fun ride.

Wow, you're getting on a bit, aren't cha?

          I had an early start.

Nothing really suprised me more than GWB's reelection in 2004. Nothing in this election compared to what happened in the year 2000.

It was tough to tell if McCain was such a weak candidate or if the Republican Party was simply bankrupt of political capital.

It was not unlike any other election in recent memory.  I've found it ugly and depressing and too damned long.  It has made me question the sense of many of my fellow humans, too many of whom seem to think that there are simple answers to difficult issues, and freak out at any suggestion that they might have to compromise or sacrifice however slightly to find solutions that most of us can live with long term.  It made me irritated with the candidates, that they continually offered simple answers and solutions that would require those other people to make the sacrifices.  I know that's what they have to do, but I still don't like it.

Civil discourse seems to be as dead as the dodo bird.  If you try to see that there are two (and usually more) sides to a particular issue and actually engage in a real conversation about it, you're accused of pretending to be reasonable in order to promote some hidden agenda.

The whining was about more than I could take.  To hear supporters tell it, every candidate was unfairly targeted and beat up on.  Someone digs up dirt about MY candidate it's a horrendous mudslinging attack, but when they dig up dirt on the other guy it's vital information that the voters should be aware of.  I'm sure that the whining will continue for a while after the election.

The rhetoric from screamers sure heated up and got ugly.  If you disagree with me, you're not only stupid, you're likely evil and trying to promote some horrendous hidden agenda that's going to send the whole country to hell in a handbasket.  The dire predictions of the future stated as absolute and undeniable fact are really getting to me.  That things never work out the way the dire predictors say they will doesn't seem to stop them from coming up with more dire predictions.

It's ridiculous.  And it's all going to start up again tomorrow.  The midterm elections are only 2 years away, you know.....

On the other hand, people got all worked up because they CARE, because they find this IMPORTANT.

I'd be more concerned if no one gave a shit.

What an election this has been!...I have enjoyed it immensely as I do most of them. In the past 2 elections we saw an anomaly in Gore winning the popular and Bush winning the Electoral....we saw an election basically decided by a bit more than 60,000 votes and now history no matter who wins! I was alive in '60 but just a year old...I was 5 in '64 when LBJ killed Goldwater, thought Bobby Kennedy was the best ever and after his death  rooted for Humphrey in '68 but was far too young to vote but, remember the conventions well! '72 was Watergate!...the following summer watching the hearings...Sam "the man"Ervin....Jimmy's rise and fall...the hard right turn of Reagan, Bush 1....then Bill (still the MAN) Clinton....Tonight we will either see our first Female VP or the first African American elected President....what a system we have!...too damn long? Probably but, it has been great to watch it unfold and know that there is change coming one way or the other. Imagine....a black President...I am old enough to remember sundown laws, segregation, busing and riots....by tomorrow folks our country for good or ill takes a huge step forward....

Thank God and goodies.

Now Larry King and CNN can have some cool people on the show again.

The fun stuff  like murderers, violent prisoners, war correspondents , national education score woes and oh my fave....celebs.

I don't find much to be hopeful about in our current election cycle.  There are too many people who don't give a shit.  There are certainly a lot of folks who care and find this important, who are seeking out information and trying to make the best decision, but there's a large number of people who become completely unhinged about this stuff.  They don't seem to have any self control and appear to lose any capacity for rational thought, lashing out at anyone who disagrees with them.

To me, this election cycle has been mostly sick and sad.  There's been all kinds of lip service given to the idea that we have to be united, but too many folks seem to think that "united" means that everyone else needs to come around to their way of thinking.  The rhetoric has been extremely divisive and mean-spirited.  This is a pretty reasonable forum compared to most other forums where politics are discussed, but just look at some of the crap that has been posted here.  So much of it has not been constructive, so much has been about threats of dire consequences should THEY win.  There has been very little actual discussion of the issues and problems that confront us and what possible solutions we can come up with together, or even about how OUR solutions are better, it's mostly about how much THEIR solutions suck.  There also seem to be a lot of people caught up in protecting/promoting policies that are to their personal advantage even if they come at the expense of what's good for us as a society.

We've become a nation of angry cynics when what we need to be is a nation of hopeful skeptics.
