LuckyAlbatross -> Kitten Fun (11/3/2008 6:42:11 PM)

I got adopted by a kitten about 6 weeks ago.  She has been a feisty fun delight to have.  Today she had her first vet visit and did wonderfully, only a little crying while they took blood and gave shots- everything is clean.

I come home expecting to find a tired semi-pathetic kitten to cuddle and love, only to find she's gone into heat!  Her spaying is scheduled in three weeks.

Just wanted to share my amusement.

lol LA.. I had that happen with a kitten, once.. omg, the yowling!!  (thank god for spay/neuter!)

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Kitten Fun (11/3/2008 7:03:52 PM)

Heh, yeah.  I'm hoping since it's her first it won't be so bad.  I haven't had to deal with a cat in heat since I was 14.  I thought she was 4 months old, the vet said she was more like five and now in heat!  My partner said she's too young to date still and needs to meet whoever she goes out with :)

Well, congrats on the new household member(owner) :)

I wish puppies would do this.  Come adopt me, I mean, not go into heat oh jeez the yowling and wailing and the waving of the ass in the air.  [:(]  What a terrible experience.  Sounds like they are dying.  Poor little things.

*chuckles* Lemme know they try to scare off potential dates with a water pistol. By the way, I have heard of diapers for dogs in heat. I don't know if they make such a product for cats, or if it advisable for one's health and limbs to attempt putting them on, but it may be something to look into. If you feel brave... [;)]

Cats are not messy like dogs.  In this way as in cleaning themselves, covering their bathroom trips, not eating what they have puked up......
Only reason i allow mine to own me.
;;-)) purrrrrrr

I'm not sure how imaginative you were at 14, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out a way to quiet her down now.

Note: I will refuse to acknowledge that I made this post.

Congrats on your new addition, Lucky Albatross!  :>
Has yours started doing the Kitty 500 at around midnight?  My Schmoo, when she was a baby, used to tear around the apartment like she was possessed every night around midnight.  It went on for quite some time.
Wonderful that you gave the little one a home; wishes for many happy, healthy years and lots of cuddles and purrs and pets.  :>

congrats on your new baby. I did see a catalogue on animals. I seem to recall Piddle pants for cats.

I adopted two different cats at the age of 6 mos. thankfully they were neutered/spayed.

Since i am a first time Mom I got a book on cats written by a Vet. I really enjoyed the book and have passed it along to other "moms" that have older cats.
I was told by one she is learning interesting things she never knew about cats.

They are fun to play with and cute to watch. Good luck on your new addition!

Mine has been spayed (twice!!) but still acts kinda weird. (she humps the stuffed frog...)

I fostered one that had to be "spayed" 3 times! After the 1st 2x's it was discovered not all parts were cut out. Poor baby girl.  Hell, poor me.....she howled all the time, walking around like a U (midbody down everything else UP)!  That was the only time, others have only had to get spayed ONCE.[8|]

xxblushesxx -> RE: Kitten Fun (11/4/2008 11:55:56 AM)

Mine was "spayed twice" because a no kill shelter rescued it from a kill shelter. (one kitty away from getting the needle)
When they went to spay her, they found she had already been spayed.
She had been someone's baby once...
I suspect she got out and they just couldn't find her.
No one would get rid of this baby on purpose.

Lashra -> RE: Kitten Fun (11/4/2008 1:52:32 PM)

I have a maine coon kitten that is six months old and goes in to be neutered in two weeks. I love kitties but when their hormones get crazy EEK!!

Good luck and enjoy,

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: Kitten Fun (11/4/2008 3:11:09 PM)

I spent a couple of years a long time ago (while I was pregnant with my 21 yr old, and for a while after she was born) raising championship and grand champion Maine Coons for show.  Still love the breed, but it got old in a hurry having 3 or 4 queens all go into heat at the same time, and having to keep track of which queen was supposed to be placed with which particular stud male that had been rented for the occassion.  Yall think having ONE female go into heat is bad - try dealing with 4 squalling, tail lifting, frantic pussies at once...
