ORIGINAL: JumpingJax Very valid point on the requirement of congress to approve any judicial appointments. But as you agree the president does have some influence here. I used the term, “Judicial side” - maybe not the best words to use as I guess that seems to imply just the judicial branch. I also was speaking of the power the President has with the US Justice department. The appointment of the Attorney General and the ability to decide which federal laws are going to be actively enforced by our federal law enforcement is in my opinion probably one of the presidents most important jobs, and great powers. A power we have seen in recent years has been abused.... (Recent years here means the last 16 or more years – no political party is immune from abusing the power of the Attorney general) The judicial branch of government interprets law and presides over judicial review of the Constitution, the legislative determines what the laws are and the executive branch enforces law. The Attorney General is in the law enforcement branch, not the judicial branch. I think you probably just confused the terms justice and judicial. The US Department of Justice deals with enforcement, not interpretation. Prez also has the power to pardon and is the mover and shaker with foreign policy. As far as the most important job, that's subjective, of course. Some will feel it's being the CIC, some will feel it's appointments others will feel it's nominating the Justices and people like Caspar Weinberger probably think it's the power of the pardon which is most important. edited to remove excess quotes
