Miss,

You almost seem to be speaking solely of the writing of such being a lost art. I find recipients frequently know not how to respond to the gifts and sentiments, and more so know not how to respond in kind.

However, I do lament the dying art of spelling.

I live for the written word and take the greatest pleasure in composing a heartfelt and well constructed billet doux.

I'm sure most of us would recognise and admit that the art of letter writing is a rapidly dieing one! I find this a great shame, almost a tragedy as i have always loved recieving a hand written page or two of words from those i love, care for.

Recent reading material of mine though has me mourning another loss. The loss of the love letter!! I'm not sure whether it is down to the modern inventions of email and text messaging, or perhaps we have grown more cynical about love and therefore in our age romance itself is dieing.

How often nowadays would you see something like ' my dear sarah, never forget how much i love you, and when my last breath escapes me on the battlefield, it will whisper your name....' ?
Sullivan Ballou, july 14th 1861.

You are more likely to see a text saying 'in pub watching football, gone to xtr time. Be back l8r xx'

Someone tell me the art of the love letter has not been lost please !!

For those who like a good love letter and never recieve any lol, i highly recommend the books 'love letters of great men' and 'dispatches from the heart, love letters from the front line'.

Love is dead. And people don't write letters anymore. I do still remember the first love letter i wrote. Mmmm

when TheEngineer and i were preparing for our first face-to-face meeting, we'd talked about email and naughty stories so i sent one to him.  sort of generic...but cute.  he answered back as though i wrote it JUST for him.

after we were moved in here, i found it and handed it to him.  he was ear-to-ear grins, that it was so important to me that i kept it.[:)]

NuevaVida -> RE: The dieing art of the love letter. (10/28/2008 9:45:47 AM)

I write letters a lot. Sometimes hand written, usually type-written, but still letters, none-the-less. I love pouring my heart out into the written word, and I know he enjoys receiving it.

My former Master enjoyed my letters, too, although it was rare he would say so.

FRSguy -> RE: The dieing art of the love letter. (10/28/2008 10:26:38 AM)

I use to write love letters a lot. I dont do it at all any more and in fact I have totaly dropped the romatic bit because woman just dont seem to be capable of it any more.  I think there is a lost art of enjoying the moment and intimate company. Let me look deep into your lovely eyes so I read those miranda rights...LOL

ThundersCry -> RE: The dieing art of the love letter. (10/28/2008 3:12:30 PM)

I send cards -L- and at around 4 bucks a card I look for cheaper ones now...

I do think letter writing is a lost art of sorts...

I count myself lucky...my grandmother taught and showed me what letter writing was about and like...

I also correspond with a young man in a federal prison...and

as some may know...THATS all hand wriiten...its really blessed me.

I'm certainly a letter person.  I've written reams and reams of them.  I've gotten a few in return, too, but most often I'm the letter writer.

Ironbudokan -> RE: The dieing art of the love letter. (10/28/2008 6:46:28 PM)

I suppose it depends on the person and whether he, or she, actually values the love letter and the work that goes into writing one. Speaking for myself, I do value them and I hope the person who receives them does as well. Come to think of it, I wrote one this morning.

zakkan -> RE: The dieing art of the love letter. (10/29/2008 12:50:40 AM)

I send love emails. The next best thing [:D]

heartcream -> RE: The dieing art of the love letter. (10/29/2008 1:37:33 AM)

Having lived away from my family for a very long time I wrote letters to keep in touch. I moved around and kept in touch with friends with letters. I found I could often say more within a letter than I felt comfortable saying over the phone or even in person sometimes.

When I am crushing on a man I am likely to write letters to him that I most likely would not send. Or I may send it and feel silly for doing so later. I like the written word. I like writing what is going on. I liked communicating with written words.

For me to see a man's actual handwriting does something to me, I find it fascinating, sexy, exciting. Add to that a man who can write, who can say things with words in a way that feels like art is a huge thrill for me.

My life feels like a love letter.

You must be equally anxious for the real spelling of "suspense," to be revealed.

Lashra -> RE: The dieing art of the love letter. (10/29/2008 5:39:58 AM)

My malesub has written me love letters and I profess that I have kept them in a locked box. I am not usually the sentimental type but something about a handwritten letter that pours out the emotion from a man's heart just gets to me.

I love my sub [sm=cute.gif]
