Wow.  We have a Mastiff/St. Bernard cross and I have to hold her down myself while my wife clips her toenails.  It can be a job but then, thats why I am the Alpha male in my home.  I don't take "no" for an answer from anyone or anything in my home except my wife.

NO SNAKES! and to hell with giving my cat anything....just trying to get her caged to go to the vet for boarding and shots is a 3 person job....and then once in the car she immediately uses the restroom inside the cage....next time I am just leaving her home alone! The dog is so easy in comparison.... I once had to dismantle a bed in the guest room just to get near enough to wrap her up so she wouldn't kill me trying to get her in the cage...and she likes me...couldn't imagine what she might do if she didn't!

So do I...I have no trouble clipping Komodos' nails or Ebony's and SHE hates having it done, but will sit there and give you her paw on command. Ko just rolls over on his back and accepts that Mommy (da Alpha) is gonna do it and has the right.

Pills and meds..Everyone including the cat and Master accepts I am gonna do it, no need to fight cause I will win...might as well get it over with. As for caging the cat..Bast likes to ride in the car and knows she has to be in the cage to do it.

Argh, my parents first let the cat get poisoned from the wrong type of flea medication, and then left on vacation with instructions for me to give the cat pills every 4 hours.

What a mess.... How a cat escapes when wrapped up tightly in a towel like a burrito, I'll never know. And it's got this trick where it jams it's head against its chest so hard, I cannot get the mouth open.

Crush the meds and mix them with some cheese.

Never fight a cat.

First off having been a owner of two very large burmese pythons, the female we got when it was about the size of a small garden snake, 6 months later she was 14 ft in length, our male was about 13 feet, and got him full grown as an unsaleable snake because he was agressive not by squeezing but by biting. While it freaking hurts it was short lived and had no affect except a lot of lil teeny holes where ever he struck. Burmese by are are the least agressive. It is well know that a articulated python is very very agressive and its not advised to own one unless you are well aware of safety and the species itself. They dont seem to tame up.

I personally think the poor snake should sue for assets for having a stupid owner. LOL

Now caring for cats. Im DAMN lucky Pye my sisters, tho he prefers me is diabetic. Pills twice a day, a needle in the inside of his ear everyday to check his blood glucose, the insulin injections themselves.  On top of that I have been having to do extra hydration when his damaged pancreas is acting up. I feel like a vet assistant.

This cat sits there without moving, trying to run away or fight. Just sit him down in the right position and there he stays till its done.

The vet checked him today since he has been having so many crashes diabetic wise. looked him over and announced that he isnt ready yet. He show no sign of pain, is active, but just has a few of those scary moments. We are getting new to this new symptom and having been acting accordingly.

He brother, (Buckethead, heh a family name)I cant get within 3 feet of him without him hissing growling and trying to slash my legs to ribbons, at least he is declawed in the front so its just like getting finger whipped LOL. He is a one person cat and the first cat that never took to me in an instant.  If he had the problems his brother had it would be world war III repeated twice a day LOL  I do have to say when his brother is down and Im working with him he knows and stops the antics.

I have to ask, Faerie, where in the world did you keep two snakes of that size???  I guess they'd have to have their own room....if not house...lol

We built a cage huge cage for them, but had them out often exercising them. Sor with the female she liked to cuddle and not in a squeezing way. She was handled about from birth, we got her when she was a week old.
Never had one of the odd pets or little dogs disappear. They were kept very well fed.

I have two cats, the towel doesn't work. I ask for a good flavored liquid med so that i just put it on a plate and he laps it up. Getting a pill into either one i would need 3 people to hold them down. They HATE it. I have tried pill pockets. If you can mash the pill down and mix into wet cat food that would work. If it's one of those plastic coated pills..good luck! No wonder they hate having meds. You pry their mouth open, drop it in and shut their mouth and then rub their throat. Mine still after that spit it out!

Try putting the cat in a sweatshirt with the head in the arm area. That is what i was recommended. They are fine if somebody else clips their nails but with me NO WAY.
At $11.00 per cat it gets expensive.

My sibling owned 4 cats and didn't clip their nails at all. She had 2 cats, one died. The other one was declawed. He adjusted i don't think the other cat did. He is a nice cat. I have never seen a declawed cat before. I know it is not something to do to a cat. There are also those plastic nail clips you can put on your cat. I don't know how well those work.

Has anybody tried those grooming things for nails for Dogs and cats that are on t.v.? Let me know how they worked.

The best way to give a cat a pill (I was a vet tech for the SPCA and HSUS before becoming a wife and mommy) Is to put them in a good scruff ( you know it is a correct hold because it will pull their ears together and usually their mouths will pop open), then just pop the pill in he mouth, shove it to the very back, and close their mouth. easy peasy.

As for a good powdered wormer, panicure is great and can be used for many types of parasite. Except tapeworm.
