I just came home from the Tina Turner concert in Sacramento. For a 69 year old woman, all I can say is WOW. What an energy level! What a show! Her voice isn't quite as deep as...oh...20+ years ago, but she can still belt it out. And what was great about this show is she did all the stuff we already know - rather than promoting a new CD and playing stuff we didn't know.

Private Dancer, What's Love..., We Don't Need Another Hero, Acid Queen (that was hot), Goldeneye, I can't stand the Rain...all of it was phenomenal, but what ultimately brought the house down (no doubt) was Proud Mary. Man, does that woman have attitude! Whew!

She change outfits a handful of times - all very cool, and the set design changed a few times. She had the hottest dancers I've ever seen on stage, but then she also had these "ninja" dancers that I thought were pretty silly. All in all, it ranked up there as one of my favorite shows.

Nothing will probably ever beat the Paul McCartney and CSNY shows I saw, but this was definitely awesome.

So, I thought I'd share.

What were some of your favorite shows and what was cool about them?

Tina Turner has been my favorite for almost half a century. The biggest thrill of my concert going was not seeing Michael, Springsteen, or The Dead, as much as when I saw Tina in concert probably six years or so ago at her concert in Radio City Music Hall, NYC. No one expected her to keep up with her back up dancers, but the lady did a great job and the entire audience was on their feet, an audience from probably 12 to 80, all totally in love with her. Well, maybe the 80 year olds were not on their feet, but they were pounding their canes into the floor in sync.

During intermission Tina came out and filmed a Hanes hosiery commercial! This gal still had the best legs in show business in my opinion. Damn,..did not know she was on tour...gotta stop focusing on politics.

NV, a show I really enjoyed was a Don Henley concert not too long ago. I was surprised that the venue was only a little more than half full. Nevertheless, Don and the band performed their hearts out. It was clear they were enjoying themselves as much as the house was. They played a lot of encores with the same enthusiasm. I had the impression that they would have played for free because they love what they do. I love concerts , have been to a lot of them, but this one, in a half full venue, I will always remember .

Very inspiring. We need more woman at 70 who look think and act like that. I hope I can be one of them some day.

i'm jealous!! Tina was here in DC not too long ago right across the street from where i work, but i just did not have the money at that time to spend on the tickets

two concerts really stick out in my mind. first (i'm showin my age here LOL i wonder if even half of you remember this group) is Mott The Hoople (sp?) wayyy back when at the Syria Mosk in Pittsburgh, perhaps, 1973ish? fookin awesome show. and second was Peter Gabriel in about 1997-98. his opening act left a lot to be desired but he was phenominal.

Cjan that sounds incredible. There's little better than watching a bunch of musicians get so into their music they just create magic with it. I can't imagine a half-full theater for Don Henley - incredible.

I saw Etta James at the Masonic Theater in SF a couple of years ago (she is 70 now) and she was as fantastic, energetic, and sexy as Tina. I couldn't find anyone to go with me so I bought myself a ticket and took myself out. I'm so glad I did! The whole theater was on their feet, dancing, all night.

I adore Tina and have a copy of her biography on my bookshelves. Never had a chance to see her in concert though.

Two shows I highly recommend are Carlos Santana and Los Lobos. Both have an incredible range and depth of emotion in their music and incorporate a wide variety of instruments and styles in their compositions and performances.

I have seen Santana at the Santa Barbara Bowl a few times and Los Lobos at the Arlington Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara.

The local Mid State Fair gets some good acts in the summertime but the crowds are always drunk and boorish and fights break out. That is a real bummer when you are trying to mellow out with Lenny Kravitz or Paul Simon or get into your dancing moves with Fergie!

Edited to add -

The Red Hot Chili Peppers give a very energetic and inspiring show and Porno for Pyros was a great concert too. And NIN rocked the house even in the Cal Poly Rec Center. Trent Reznor is one of the hottest men ever!

The most recent concert I saw was BB King & Willie Nelson and it was incredible. There were no dancers or elaborate stage shows, just two master musicians/entertainers lettin' 'er rip

. I was just floored to be in their presence, frankly, and they both rocked in their own respective ways. One of the coolest parts of the show was when BB was about to finish his set so Willie could come on, they joined each other onstage briefly to talk and sing a couple of songs together. BB told a story about years ago when he was doing a show and was getting ready to perform "Nightlife" (one of the most famous song's Willie has written). He said he was told that Willie was in the audience and he got so nervous he almost couldn't sing it. They met and began a friendship that has lasted years and years. Totally cool.

As far as really rockin' concerts, I'd have to say AC/DC outdid themselves. When Angus was lowered down from the rooftop playing the opening riffs of one of their most famous songs, it was thrilling. The Cult/Metallica together was amazing as well. The "And Justice for All Tour" it was and after a eardrum-shattering performance of "One," my ears actually ached. Wow, my headbanger days!

Hi Vendaval,

I saw Santana years ago...sort of. It was in Marin, with my (now) ex-husband. I say "sort of" because I was so overworked and sleep deprived those days, I fell asleep during the show!!! I know, I know, sacrilegious, isn't it? But I so rarely had the opportunity to just sit and "be" and I passed out. Guess I'll have to go see him again!

Another amazing show that I saw was Sade, in Irvine. She was fantastic - so sexy, so full of energy, so...well...I can't even think of how to finish that! I'd see her again in a heartbeat, given the chance.

I saw Shawn Colvin at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga. She played with Bruce Cockburn. It was a perfect night in the trees, with a full moon. I was with a dear friend (we have a tradition of going to the Mountain Winery at least once a year).

One of the best rockin' shows I saw was The Who at the Oakland Stadium. I remember Love Reign O'er Me like yesterday...

I just love going to shows! I'm seeing Alanis Morrisette next month - woot!

I saw Tony Bennett years ago - took my parents. It was an outdoor venue (Concord Pavilion - named something else, now). At one point he turned his mic off, walked out to the edge of the stage, and sang "Fly Me To the Moon" accapella (sp?). It was at night, the moon was bright, and it was so beautiful. I'll never forget it.

This reminded me of when I saw Waylon & Willie at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Willie is just so real...so down to earth. This was back in the days of people holding up cigarette lighters at shows, and at one point he had all the stage lights turned off except for one spotlight on him, and everyone held up their little flames, and he sang Amazing Grace. A total goosebumpy moment!

Bob Marley - I'm jealous!

I saw Eddie Money twice. The first was a come-back tour of his, and he played as though he was starving for it. It was fantastic. I was so thrilled that I dragged a friend with me the next year to see him. He was so drunk he forgot his lyrics and dropped the mic a couple of times. Truly disappointing. At least I have the GOOD show to remember!

Tina Turner is amazing and inspiring. Does she still perform with Tim Capello, playing sax? He was the sax player from The Lost Boys.
