You have to see this.  listen to his dumb remarks later.

What took them so long?

Sanity -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/22/2008 3:24:21 PM)

That's nothing new. Hasn't it always been considered criminal in those circles to hold any point of view that runs counter to the Socialists?

On a related note, I see where the Democrats are seriously considering a ban on Right-Wing free speech through a revival of the "Fairness Doctrine" should they gain enough power in the coming elections.

.....and from the site you link to, "Fairness is the enemy of progress and innovation.".......'nuff said really. Bear in mind that fairness is pretty much a synonym for justice.

Sanity -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/22/2008 4:05:16 PM)

Fairness itself is one thing, it is well and good. But the "Fairness Doctrine" is another thing entirely, and it's eery that legislation that is designed to erode free speech would be named anything Like "Fairness".

It's so Orwellian...

...ok, do you have a link to a primary source that explains what this Doctrine is? Because all i've read of it so far is that it's essentially about right to reply.

considering the shape the country is in:

we should all be dancing in the streets!            :-D~

Someone`s ignoring the treason he committed....

He deserves a firing squad after doing 20 years hard labor on a Texas chain gang.

Instead,a job on fox news ,[:D] ,with terrorist pal G.Gordon Libby,errr... Liddy.[&o]

Sanity -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/22/2008 8:39:06 PM)

Look for your own link. I'll share my opinion about it though.

"Right to reply" is like, say this website here. Under something like "The Fairness Doctrine" collarme and collarchat would have to let people who believed in missionary sex (or Christians, or whoever) have the use of half of their resources. And Drudge has reported that they are in fact discussing extending "The Fairness Doctrine" to the web, though I don't know exactly how that would work, and I'm not saying it would extend to collarme - that was just an illustration.

Short and the long, Radio and TV would have to give "opposing viewpoints" equal time. That will kill shows like Obermann or Limbaugh because the opposition, like say Nader, would most likely bore people to tears... droning on and on in a nasal monotone for hours and hours, you know? And make ratings bomb. The end result would be to replace all political discussion (free speech) with sports or old country songs, and it's perceived that would help Liberals win elections because they just don't do radio well, and even shows like Overman get no ratings to speak of. And that's why only Democrats support it.

It's all about silencing the opposition, and it's madness for anyone to support it because it's  another infringement on all of our rights.

...ok, did my own research....you wont like it though

...not true, at least if we're talking about the Fairness Doctrine introduced in the US in1949. The situation you describe is specifically not what the Doctrine called for. Not equal time, not equal use of resources.....
"It did not require equal time for opposing views, but required that contrasting viewpoints be presented. The Fairness Doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows or editorials."

...factually inaccurate, feel free to benefit from my research.

.....well, thats your opinion...others wont share it, but as a fair minded person you wont begrudge them that.

......well, as you're clearly in factual error over whats being proposed, this statement is understandable. No need to thank me for bringing a little accuracy into your life.

corysub -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 1:47:42 AM)

We can "do our research", prove our answers with data, reams of essays about the "Fairness Doctrine".  However, in "real life" people do things for basically two reasons..."a good reason...such as serving and informing the American public, or the "REAL" reason...to stifle opposing political views.  That is at the core of the Pelosi, Reid, Schumer,Bingaman thrust to reverse the decision by Ronald Reagan to eliminate this nazi like gagging of people with opposing views.  Certainly there is a huge right of center audience listening to Rush, Sean, Laura, et al...but there is also NPR and the failed "Air America", which never has been able to attract much of an audience.  Could you imagine a day of listening to people as nutty as Keith Olbermann all day long...Personally, I find it hard to listen to the guy more than five minutes.

The link below might be of interest.....It gives the liberal view on how they want to shape our world...we are going to be told what is suitable to hear...what is on the air would have to meet criteria established by people like the good liberal Senator Jeff Bingaman.  Big Brother is watching...be afraid...be VERY afraid.

America in 2009... a liberal Congress, a radical left of center President in Obama possibly, probably spots on the Supreme Court filled by even more extreme "we make laws" judges...and Americans in the....I don't even want to go there...

The best part is when George Mitchell says he feels like Dorthy in the Wizard of Oz listening to Karl Rove complain about negative campaigning

pahunkboy -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 5:03:44 AM)

why be afraid of the fairness doctrine?

if your argument it correct- it then proves it. and if not, then the wrongly advised people learn something.

no harm there.

pahunkboy -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 5:31:56 AM)

oh and with the liberal media, the new york times, NPR,  CNN,  ild think the right would love equal time.

after all the liberal media doesnt give equal time to the other side.  so I doubt we are doomed by the fairness doctrine.

kittinSol -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 5:36:58 AM)

The liberal media seems to mean any kind of media that doesn't pander to right wing ideology. Have you noticed that?

pahunkboy -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 5:45:21 AM)

how can media be liberal.

NEWS,  who what when where ...

even those I listed are not Amy Goodman of democracynow.

bipolarber -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 8:19:50 AM)

I just want to make sure I understand the republicans' stance on this.... they are saying that MORE speech on a particular political issue is unfair?

Yeah, right... [8|]

True, since commentators like Limbaugh took over the airwaves, they've had a pretty easy time of it. All they had to do was sue anyone who gave a direct rebuttal to one of their programs into silence, and they could continue on their merry way, lieing to the general public at worst, and presenting only one side of an argumanet at best. Most of the radio conglomerates are owned and operated by conservative corperations, headed by such "fair and balanced" people like Rupert Murdock. Is it any wonder why the opinions and ideas by the left are never presented?

The republicans are shitting their collective pants over this. IF the American public starts getting FACTS in their heads, (not just slanted opinions about "The Way Things Ought To Be," they might actually start making more informed decisions... and that simply won't do! The GOP runs on appealing to pig-ignorant rednecks. That's their base.

Sanity -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 8:23:00 AM)

By ignoring certain stories, either deliberately or because in their mind it's inconsequential or too damning to Barack Obama... and by endlessly investigating trivial things about Conservatives, such as the cost of clothing or whether or not some plumber guy in Ohio belongs top a union, or owes back taxes...

If as a reporter your mind is biased you may not consciensly know that your reporting is biased because of the way the human mind works. What stands out to you as "newsworthy" depends entirely on the way you see things, and reporters go where their biased noses lead them. Bias can be intitutionalized, too. Some news organizations are notoriously biased towards the Left, MSNBC, CBS "News" and the New York Times being three of the most prominent.

kittinSol -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 8:33:57 AM)

It's all cool though, because they're balanced out by far more powerful right wing news organisations (you know the ones I speak of, so I shan't bore you with yet another list): so really, the right wing agenda has nothing to fear from its lefty enemies. It's just that these days, the right isn't as popular as you'd like it to be. To blame the triumphant libewal media for having beaten the nefarious fox shows that you're a bad looser, Sanity :-) .

Sanity -> RE: Karl Rove, citizen arrest on vid (10/23/2008 10:54:44 AM)

How many substantial news organizations lean to the right, kitten. One? Two?

And I never mentioned Fox, or anyone having beaten anyone else, where do you get that kind of stuff. Do you just make it up to try to make your posts seem more interesting, or what.

Sanity... I despair of you. If you think Fox is the only non-libewal news org in this country... you need to go back to your homework (which, again, I plainly refuse to do for you). Good luck in your research: it shouldn't be too difficult.
