playfulotter -> The Vanishing Male Voter.... (10/17/2008 10:11:29 AM)

I just read this interesting article over at Newsweek and had no idea there was such a discrepancy between male and female voters. I thought it was actually the other way around!  [sm=highfive.gif]

"Over the last 40 years, some 16 million men—a population roughly the size of Michigan and Indiana combined—have stopped pulling the lever. That's a hole five times the size of George W. Bush's margin of victory in 2004. How did it get so bad? Since 1964, when a record 72 percent of voting-age men and 67 percent of voting-age women pulled the lever for president, participation rates have tumbled for both sexes—but far more steeply for men. By 1980, civics-class dropouts had flipped the gender gap. And this November, men are again the odds-on favorites to no-show at the polls...."

Perhaps they need some votational Viagra.

I have not seen a drop of men at the voting booths I go to. Could it be a lot of the men are fighting overseas?

Perhaps, over the years, many men find that "pulling the lever", as you say, is less satisfying than it was when they were younger. It is, after all, a solitary task that is often, though not always, unsatisfactory. Often, it's significance is no more than... a drop in the bucket, so to speak.

thats because men work because of woman. for the woman, to score the woman, to keep the woman and to enjoy the woman.

woman decide what they want- and it then is up to the man to 1- help or 2 get lost.

it simply shows that the male THINKS he can do what he wants... but in the larger scheem of things- that is only the case if the woman wants the same thing.

see?

p,

You need to meet some different women.

Because voting no longer feels empowering. It's a reminder that you are part of a society that's 300,000,000 strong, most of whom are not like you.

I still vote.

Meanwhile, I learned while researching into this that the fertility rate of Americans is 2.1--which is replacement level only--that most of those births come from minorities (ie., non-white), that birth rates for caucasians around the world are declining, that populations for Germany, Sweden, Italy and a lot of other European countries are falling, and that white people in general just aren't having as many kids.

The only reason the white population is increasing in this country is because of extended life spans, and that won't carry us for long. Something to think about.

The women in my life are all fine.  This is my observation.  Think about it. Watching my brothers and what they do.  They like to think they are in charge- but when they  think that (sex) is being rationed, only go to guys who drive fast cars, wear xyz cologne, wear dressy clothes - and things deeper- then that is where the woman are in charge.

kittinSol -> RE: The Vanishing Male Voter.... (10/17/2008 1:12:35 PM)

Any person, male or female, who rations sex in a relationship, sucks. There's no other word: I think rationning sex to exert power is disgusting. Sorry for the hijack: it's a pet peeve of mine [&:] .

But this is exactly the point.

Are you guys aware that women also want sex?

Chose more carefully.

What about dangling the sex carrot to get the boys jumping through all the right hoops? [;)]

kittinSol -> RE: The Vanishing Male Voter.... (10/17/2008 3:35:40 PM)

If anyone's got a carrot, it's not me, baby.

LookieNoNookie -> RE: The Vanishing Male Voter.... (10/17/2008 4:45:46 PM)

I quit voting when Gore won.

Being a Republican, I'd have preferred anyone other than Gore...won....but Gore.....won.

He was supposed to be the Prez (I'm fairly sure he's glad he didn't win).

Obama is going to win because he has the electoral votes.  That's all he needs.

Game over...rent a movie.

LadyEllen -> RE: The Vanishing Male Voter.... (10/17/2008 4:51:30 PM)

It does look like game over - but please dont think its in the bag and stay home? (unless you're voting Republican that is)
